Aia di Casuccia is a traditional Chianti cottage, located in the heart of Tuscany about half way between Siena and Florence and within easy reach of Gaiole in Chianti. The property is composed of a main villa and the little Aia di Casuccia villa.
Next to the main villa is a large pool with a pretty stone sun deck dotted with sun beds and a Jacuzzi. This area boasts an incredible view of the rolling Chianti hills covered with vineyards, forests and olive groves, with Vertine Castle to one side.
The cottage is about 100metres away, through a little forest, from the pool area and the main villa. It is laid out over two floors with a lovely covered terrace outside. This terrace is furnished with a table and chairs for dining al fresco while admiring the spectacular views in front of the villa. To one side of the villa there is a small sunny terrace furnished with a couple of sunbeds.
The ground floor is split level, with the kitchen area on a higher level than the lounge and dining area. These two parts of the villa are open plan and divided by a large arch. The kitchen is well equipped and includes gas hobs, oven and a fridge with separate freezer compartment.
The room if paved in the tradition Tuscan villa terracotta tiles and has a ceiling of terracotta and wooden beams. Down several steps from the kitchen is the dining area with a wooden table and four chairs. To the other side of this room there is a double sofa and a wood burning stove for the cooler nights. The room is bright and sunny with two windows and a double wood and glass doors that lead out to the terrace.
A small bathroom with shower completes the floor. Also on the ground floor level is a double bedroom. This is located across the terrace from the living room. It is accessed only externally. This is a lovely warm room made entirely of wood, the bed and other furnishings are made of cast iron providing the room with a modern atmosphere. There is a simple, iron and curtained wardrobe in the room. Note that there is no bathroom en-suite, the bathroom is in the main part of the cottage.
From the main living area of the cottage and also from the terrace there is access to the stairs to the first floor. These are completely surrounded by glass walls allowing excellent views of the hills that surround the property. On the first floor there is a wonderful bathroom with tub and over head shower. The spacious double bedroom has a Juliette balcony and a pretty wooden bed. The room is furnished with a chest of drawers and a large armchair.

Aia di Casuccia is totally independent from the main house, with its own entrance from the road.

The double bedrooms cannot be made into twins.
Note that the owners make occasional use of the pool.

Internet WI-FI available in the villa for free. Please bring your own laptop.

The laundry facilities are by the pool at the main house.

Pool Info

The pool is located above the main house. It is in an open position surrounded by a large stone paved sun deck. To one side are several sun beds and a table with chairs, shaded by a large umbrella. From here there is a fantastic view of Vertine Castle which sits on the hill across the small valley.
To one side of the deck is a small Jacuzzi looking out to the views of the rolling Tuscan hills covered in vineyards, forests and olive groves. The end of the pool has a diving board.
The pool is 11x5 metres and 1.3 to 3 metres deep. It's open from mid-May to the first week of September, weather permitting.
Note that the owners make occasional use of the pool.

Cons Insecten, vooral muggen.

Pros The views.Especially over to Vertine.
The pool area.
'Mine Host' was very good and welcoming.
Cons The unpaved road from the main road was really very very poor and great care had to be taken not to damage the underside of the car which we did hit on a few occasions. This was especially true when full with 4 adults and all luggage!!. We would have appreciated this knowledge when at the booking stage. The property needs much better signposting from all directions as we went past by several times without realising. The 'outside' double bedroom was not the best...a bit shed like and having to come outside then back in to access the bathroom was not good at all. It also got hot and was visited by many insects !!.
Local attractions Enjoyed Gaiole in Chianti. Nice restaurants / cafes / atmosphere. Vertine was a real jewel..... loved walking round and the bar / restaurant was excellent. Rada was ok but very touristy whereas Gaiole was very much for locals... An excellent COOP in Rada had all provisions you need.
