Antiche Rose is a lovely Tuscan villa which gets its name from the 100 old fashioned rose bushes that are on the property. It is a modern yet unusual villa furnished to a high standard with plenty of artistic touches from the owner who is an artist.
The pool is located a few steps away from the back terrace of the villa. It is surrounded by a simple yet pretty wooden fence and a lovely wooden deck ideal for sunbathing. It is perched on the edge of the slope overlooking the trees. To one side is a steep drop, care must be taken when there are children at the pool.
Antiche Rose has plenty of furnished terraces and garden spaces to enjoy the sunny Tuscan outdoors. There are two pergola covered terraces with table and chairs to dine al fresco. Next to the larger of the two is a pizza oven and fantastic barbeque area. Around the villa is a spacious, covered veranda comfortably furnished with iron sofas with cushions.
This fantastic Tuscan villa is entered on the first floor from the garden and veranda. Inside is a large kitchen with plenty of work an storage space. It is well equipped and includes two sets of gas hobs, two sinks, a dishwasher, an oven and a fridge with a separate freezer.
The bright and open plan living and dining area is through a short hall from the kitchen area. Large picture windows look out onto the veranda and the surrounding forests. The wooden dining table with brightly coloured chairs can comfortably seat up to 8 people.
To the other side of the room is the sitting area composted of modern armchairs and a sofa around a free standing fireplace, perfect for the cooler evenings. There are plenty of seats for 8 people. In one corner is the TV with free satellite channels.
Going down a small hall is a bathroom with shower and a bedroom with en-suite bathroom. The room decorate in pink colours, is comfortably furnished with a double bed and large, mirrored wardrobe. The en-suite bathroom is huge with double basins, a large Jacuzzi bath tub and a separate shower. There is also a sauna.
Stairs lead to the second floor where there is an attic bedroom with double bed. The room has wall to wall carpets and a lovely cozy feel from the pretty wall paintings and soft pink colours. En-suite is a wet room bathroom (open shower).
The ground floor is accessed from the lounge by a large staircase. It has two bedrooms, both with picture windows which provide them with plenty of light. The first is a modern blue bedroom that has a couple of steps on either side to the sunken level where there is the double bed. It is furnished with a chest of drawers. Of the room is an en-suite bathroom with shower and a laundry room.
The second bedroom on this floor is a twin room, with the beds placed centrally in the large room. There is plenty of space around the beds. A comfortable double sofa and a large wall unit with shelves and hanging space complete the furnishings. En-suite is a spacious bathroom with shower.
The double bedrooms cannot be made into twin rooms. The twin room cannot be made into a double.
The fencing of the pool is not secure for children, they can pass between the gaps of the wooden structure.
Throughout the villa there are hand painted walls done by the owner.
The use of the sauna is charged extra.

Pool Info
The pool is located to the back of Antiche Rose, only a few steps away from the villa. It is surrounded by a wooden but open fence and a large wooden deck. In the fence is a small gate providing access to the pool. This is a sunken pre-fabricated pool.
To one side is a pretty, wooden bed with two mattresses and covered by curtains which provide shade, making it an ideal place to relax and enjoy warm Tuscany. Dotted around the deck are sun chairs and a couple of sun beds. There are no views from the pool due to the lovely forest that surrounds the property.
The pool is 12x5.5 metres, 1.2 metres deep, open from May to September, weather permitting. The pool is chlorine free and has a salt cleaning system which makes the water slightly salty.

Nearest town
The nearest village is Donnini, about 2.5km away. It has a small grocery shop, a café and a restaurant. A larger town is in Reggello which is about 10km away from the villa. There are many restaurant in the area however the best are Ristorante S. Caterina and pizzeria Torricelli. About 25km away there is a large town called Montevarchi where there are many amenities.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
