Bellaria
Location address: Lecchi in Chianti - Siena
Bellaria is a lovely, well restored villa in the heart of the Chianti. It's just a few minutes drive to a local village. It's also possible to walk to the village through a forest. This wonderfully Tuscan villa boasts incredible views of the Chianti hills.
The main garden is to the back of the villa. Here there is the large pool and gazebo which look out to the fantastic views. The villa is on the quiet country road however it has extensive private land which is terraced with olive trees.
(pool photos will be updated as soon as possible)
Bellaria is composed of two independent apartments and a small self-contained cottage. There are a few other buildings on the property however these are not restored. The iron gates lead to a small paved courtyard in front of the main entrance to the two larger apartments. Tall cypress trees surround the terrace area.
The central door leads into a little entrance hall which is furnished with pretty antiques including a pony trap from the owner's family. Narrow steep stairs lead to the first floor. To the left at the top of the stairs, passing under a terracotta arch, is the fully equipped kitchen, this includes a fridge with separate freezer, gas hobs, an oven and dishwasher. In the centre of the room is wooden dining table with chairs. A large window looks out to the terrace outside the front door.
Off the kitchen is a spacious double bedroom. The bed has twin mattresses however cannot be divided into a twin room. To one side of this large room is a table with chair and a wooden wardrobe, a marble topped chest of drawer completes the furnishings. There are two windows which provide plenty of light, one of these looks out to the garden while the other looks towards the passing road and vineyards beyond. In the room is an en-suite bathroom with shower.
To the other side of the stairs there is a small sitting room. This room, like the rest of the villa, has large, aged and glazed terracotta tiles, with the tradition Tuscan ceiling of wooden beams and terracotta tiles. The room is furnished with a couple of armchairs, a writing desk and chair.
Off the room is a twin bedroom that has a chest of drawers. There is no wardrobe, however there are some old hooks which can be used to hang clothes. The window have a magnificent view over the nearby village, Lecchi in Chianti, and of the hills beyond. There is an en-suite bathroom with shower, the small oval window also looks out to the views.
From the sitting area there is access to another large bedroom, furnished with a pretty iron double bed. This has twin mattresses but cannot be divided into a twin. The room has a large wardrobe, chest of drawer, an armchair and writing desk with chair. One of the two windows looks out to the excellent views of the Chianti. There is an en-suite bathroom with shower.
At the end of the sitting room are some stairs to the tower floor. This room is furnished as a comfortable, bright lounge. It has a double sofa and wicker armchairs. Arched windows look out towards the cypress tree courtyard. The second window has a great view over the hills, it's even possible to see Siena on clear days.
The second apartment is also entered from the paved terrace. There is a large iron and glass door which leads into the kitchen. The room is well equipped and includes gas hobs, oven, dishwasher and fridge with small internal freezer. There is a large oak table surrounded by comfortable wicker chairs.

To one side steps lead down into a walk through bedroom. This room is furnished with twin beds, one on either side of the door, it cannot be made into a double. There is a wardrobe in the room.
Passing through the room a door leads into a small hall, at the end of which there is a bathroom with shower. Going left off the hall is access to a third kitchen, this is the largest of those available in the villa. This room is also fully furnished with gas hobs, oven, dishwasher and a fridge with separate freezer. In the centre of the room is a circular wooden table which can be extended. To the back of the kitchen is a bathroom, with anti-bathroom. There is a shower in this bathroom.

A terracotta archway leads into the largest of the lounges. This is a spacious room, furnished with two double sofas and one that seats four people. There is a door which accesses the garden and pool area.

A twin bedroom is accessed from the lounge. It can be made into a double if requested when booking. The room is furnished with a large wooden wardrobe and a couple of chairs.
From the garden, three steps leads into the completely self-contained cottage. It has a small living area where there is a little kitchenette with table and chairs. This is a bright room, equipped with gas hobs, oven and fridge with small freezer compartment. In one corner is a fireplace.
Off the kitchen is a simple single bedroom with wardrobe. The second room is a twin which has a wardrobe and chest of drawers. There are fantastic views from the window of this room. The cottage is completed by a bathroom with shower.

Double rooms cannot be made into twins. If you require a twin room made up as a double please indicate this when booking. One of the twins cannot be made into a double.

Bellaria is attached to a quiet, unpaved country road. Passing cars can be heard and seen from various parts of the property. The pool area cannot be seen from the road.

It is possible to walk into the local village, this is at least a 40 minute walk partly through a forest and with a steep, paved section of road. It's a similar distance to another village, through a forest and vineyards. If you plan to walk make sure you bring a flashlight with you.

Stay: August 2012
Pros Our entire party was really impressed with the property itself and the magnificent views. The 2 large master bedrooms were particularly lovely. We liked the fact that there were en-suites all round. The kitchens were modern and were filled with all the things we needed. The pool was a delight, and all the garden furniture made for comfortable lounging! We all adored the manager and the cleaner. We got to meet the owners too... genuinely lovely and helpful people! A wonderful house in a magnificent location!!
Cons A few suggestions... the only dishwasher is in the upstairs kitchen, and this is the only kitchen of the total 4 that we never used because of it's location. The gravel drive made it quite difficult to get up in the cars, which skidded around on the stones. Minor things really...
Local attractions We were recommended a restaurant in nearby San Sano (it's the only one there in the small village so you can't miss it!) and it was LOVELY... the pasta with truffle oil was delicious! We really enjoyed visiting nearby Radda as well where we found some lovely little shops (many selling beautiful leather goods and several Italian kitchen ware shops) and many welcoming and tasty restaurants as well. For trips further afield, Sienna and Florence were of course a delight... but a long way on those windy roads!!

Pros The view, incredible, beautiful really unique. The little town of Lecchi near the house where you find everything for the house and for eating. The swmming pool very secure for children and in front of the most beautiful view you can imagine. Owners that are wonderful persons. we realy love this house
Cons It is arranged for 4 individuals appartments and not a big hose for a big family. In front of the house, where there is the most beautiful view of all italy, there is a little house... so you cannot see the view!!! It is really a pity
Local attractions We go much to Castellina in Chianti where there are all the commerce you need, a fantastic antiques botega with jewls very nice and sculptures where all is beautiful and refined. The butcher is also incredible, you can buy fantastic wine and olive oil, etc...

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
