Casa al Ponte is a large villa located near the ancient town of Figline Valdarno which is in the centre of a triangle formed by the cities of Florence, Siena and Arezzo. The town's historic area has a medieval piazza surrounded by buildings of importance which house fine works of art. Florence is approximately 30km away and both Siena and Arezzo are within easy reach.
The swimming pool is located a few metres from the villa in the beautiful well maintained gardens. It has a paved surround with sun loungers, planted pots and mature trees which provide shade during the heat of the day. From here there are spectacular views over vineyards and rolling countryside to the Valdarno and Pratomagno hills in the distance.
The entrance to this very attractive villa is via a covered loggia. The front door opens into a wide entrance hall with terracotta tiled floors and a traditional tiled and beamed ceiling. Doors ahead lead to the main stairwell with a door on the left to a bathroom with shower.
Continuing on ahead is the dining room which has an oval dining table and chairs, to one side is a wooden dresser and in the corner an open fireplace.
The well equipped kitchen is off to the left, this unusually shaped semi circular room has large windows making it very bright and airy. There is a modern oven with gas hobs, a microwave oven, dishwasher and free standing fridge/freezer.
To the left of the entrance hall steps lead up to a further dining area with traditional wooden table and chairs, further on, down two steps is the lounge, which is comfortably furnished with sofas and chairs arranged around the TV with DVD.
The large full height windows allow plenty of light into the room and a door opens onto a sizeable paved fully furnished terrace. To the right of the lounge, steps lead up to a utility room with washing machine and internal access to the covered loggia, this has a door out to the garden near to the pool.
Upstairs there are four bedrooms, each one of which is individually, tastefully furnished. On the right is a large bedroom with a double bed with painted scrollwork bed frame. This is a very light, restful space with painted wooden furniture a large wardrobe and painted ceilings. There is also a double sofabed to one side.
Next door is the master bedroom which again is a large bright room. This has a double bed with painted scrollwork bed frame and painted furniture. The ceilings are painted to match the rest of the decor. This room has an ensuite with full size bath with telephone taps.
A further door leads onto the covered semi circular balcony, which has wonderful views across the grounds and rolling countryside.
The large family bathroom has a full size bath with telephone taps and also a separate shower. There is access to a small covered balcony which overlooks the gardens and the pool. Next door is another pretty room with twin beds and large wardrobe. There is also a day bed which would be suitable as a bed for a child.
A further flight of stairs leads up to the second level where there is a very pretty bedroom with a painted wooden double bed, large wardrobe and matching furniture. Opposite is the bathroom with shower.
Outside the garden wraps around the house on three sides. This has been beautifully planted with shrubs and trees. Also there are numerous pots and tubs which have been planted with colourful geraniums and other Mediterranean flowers dotted around the grounds.
There is a tiled circular loggia near to the pool which is a great space to relax away from the heat of the day.
There is a shaded private car park at Casa al Ponte.

Pool Info
The swimming pool is situated down a few steps to the left hand side a few metres from the house. This is rectangular in shape with a paved surround furnished with sun loungers and planted pots.
The pool measures 10 metres x 5 metres and has a constant depth of 140 cm. Semi-circular steps lead down into the pool but there is no handrail. The pool is open from May to October.

The nearest town is Figline Valdarno which is 7km away. This has a supermarket, grocers, pharmacy, bank and a church. The Logge del Vecchio Spedale Serristori, Collegiata, the Church and Cloister of San Francesco, the Palazzo Pretorio and the Theatre of Garibaldi Bonaparte and the town walls are certainly worth a visit, with many valuable paintings and frescos housed within these historical buildings. The town has a train station which has a half hourly service to Florence with a journey time of 20 minutes. Alternatively the A1 highway is only 4km away.

For the cost should have been better, eg no kettle no toaster no tea spoons etc. Also had a villa guide for a different villa some miles away which confused us. Didn't see anyone related to the property at all.

What were the highlights of your holiday? Our trip to Venice, although a little far, was delightful. However, we also enjoyed our days just hanging out at the villa. The special dinner, cooked by the staff at Villa Borghese, was superb, and so plentiful, we had leftovers for several days. The kids and adults enjoyed the pool, especially since the weather was so very hot while we were there. There were delightful breezes in the evening, making sleeping a wonderful experience.

What were the highlights of your holiday? The scenery was spectacular. We all really enjoyed the one evening we stayed at the villa, barbecued and drank wine. It was a super event.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
