Casafoso is a lovely, traditional Tuscan villa within walking distance to Radda in Chianti. It's a cute little cottage on two floors located on a larger property, next to the owner's villa.
The pool is to the other side of the owner's villa and a short walk through the pretty garden away from Casafoso. Outside the villa is a stone paved terrace which is furnished with a table and chairs to dine al fresco. It is shaded by the nearby trees, although does have sun part of the day.
Inside is an open plan room over two floors. The lower level has a comfortable double sofa to one side, while the wooden dining table is in one corner with a wooden bench along the wall and three chairs. The entire room is paved with the traditional terracotta.
The kitchen unit is along the wall below the stairs. It is simply equipped and includes an oven, gas hobs and a small fridge with tiny internal ice box. Next to this is a fireplace, which is ideal for the cooler nights. To the back of the room is a small bathroom which has an open shower with curtain.
The sleeping area is on the mezzanine floor on the upper level. It has a beautiful iron double bed, a two seater sofa and a large wardrobe. The room has the typical Tuscan villa feature of a ceiling of wooden beams and terracotta Tiles.
Note that there is no heating in the villa.
The owners may make occasional use of the pool.
The last weekend of August there is a village festival which has live music that can be heard at the villa.

Pool Info

The pool is located to the back of the property, it has a pretty flag stone surround dotted with sun beds and some chairs. To one side is an umbrella for shade. Around the pool is a simple garden with well maintained lawns, dotted with olive trees.
The gently sloping hills provides the pool with a pretty view of the olive groves and vineyards around the property and onto the forested hills to the other side.
The pool is 14x7 metres and 0.9-1.6metres deep. It's open from mid-May to mid-September, weather permitting.

Pros The accommodation is as idyllic as it looks on the photographs. A really beautiful former granary set on a very well maintained property. The highlight is the pool area - better than many a luxury hotel - with the most wonderful view over the valley, lined by lemon trees and very clean.
Cons Unfortunately there is a very significant BUT with this holiday - the mosquitoes. With no air conditioning it was necessary to keep the windows open at night and we were savaged by the mosquitoes. We finished the week covered in bites despite burning citronella candles, plug-in deterrents and several cans of repellent. It was clearly an issue for the quests who preceded us as they left candles and repellent behind. A real shame.

Unfortunately, mosquitoes are attracted to the hot Tuscan countryside. It is advisable to come equipped with repellent especially with properties which do not have air conditioning or insect screens.

Pros + netter Empfang, nette Vermieter
+ ruhige Lage
+ sehr sauberer, großer Pool
+ Schlafzimmer mit großem Bett
+ typisch toskanisches Haus

Pros We were looking for a villa in a private, rural location with close access to bars and restaurants as we don't have a car to transport ourselves around. Casafoso and Radda were perfect for us. The villa is an old farmhouse and fairly rustic which we found charming. It had everything we could have wanted to make ourselves at home (including a barbeque which we put to good use). We loved sitting outside on the patio every day taking in the truly beautiful scenery and enjoying the peace and quiet and the pool was also wonderful. The owners were attentive and made sure we were happy while completely respected our privacy. This is the only place we've ever visited that we would plan on returning to. Beautiful.
Cons The bathroom is very small but for two of us it was fine.
Local attractions There's a great selection of restaurants for a range of budgets. We loved La Vigne which has outdoor seating overlooking endless vineyards and excellent food - very reasonably priced with great wines. We would also recommend booking onto a tour of a local winery. We loved our guided tour around Vignavecchia, a small-medium sized winery. Jessica who is one of the wine makers gave us a really interesting tour explaining the whole process from grape to glass and educated us all about Chianti Classico followed by a tasting. We emailed ahead to book onto the tour but if you only want to do the tasting you can just show up. It's a ten minute walk from Radda and across the road from our favourite restaurant La Vigne so it's a great idea to combine the two one afternoon! We also did a hike around what's known as the Radda loop which wasn't too taxing but had great views, you can find the map in the local tourist information office. We got the bus to Florence one day, fairly stressful as the buses are very infrequent so make sure you know the timetable well before setting out.

Thank you for your feedback. The owner apologises that the dishes were not as clean as they should have been. More thorough checks will be made in future. The bathroom was checked. There is no sign of damp. It may have felt a little damp and humid because of the weather that week.

Pros We selected Casafoso after consulting with Dympna regarding our requirements, ie: a small villa with a pool and within easy walking distance of a local village, she found us three and we loved the details and pictures of Casafoso. We couldn’t believe that it could be as beautiful as it looked, but it was.
We were met by the owner who was very helpful and welcoming. The villa really was a Tuscany dream. The villa itself was well appointed and cosy. The views were picture book. The pool and pool area were beautifully maintained.
We often walked to the local village of Radda, where there were ample restaurants and shops. There is a local bus that can take you into Sienna which we used on occasion. We could continue with our complements but suffice is to say the villa was beautiful, the owners were warm and friendly and we had the best time ever.

The owner thanks you for your feedback. They will certainly take into account how best to organise the space in the bathroom. Regarding the sports centre, the only time the facilities are used is for the football tournament that runs for 3/4 weeks a year. There is also a table in the kitchen which can also be used for food preparation.
