Casa La Sosta stands proudly over looking the vineyards and olive groves of the Chianti. The traditional Tuscan villa is on three floors. It is located just a few kilometres from San Donato, in a small hamlet where there is a restaurant and a couple of other houses.

To the rear of the house there are terraced gardens. Shaded areas are furnished with tables and chairs for eating al fresco. The private swimming pool is on a lower terrace with views across neighbouring vineyard and enjoys sun until the warm glow of the Tuscan sunset.
The entrance is on the first floor, from the street at the front of the house. It leads into a fully equipped kitchen, that includes gas hobs, oven, fridge with freezer and dishwasher. Off this room is a large dining room, that is furnished with a modern table with wooden chairs. In the room is a double sofa and an armchair that match the dining table. In one corner is a fireplace, ideal for the cooler nights in the Spring and Autumn. Double doors lead out to the street. To the back of the room is a small study with external access.

On this floor there is a double bedroom that can be made into a twin if requested when booking. The room is furnished with a wooden bed, triple wardrobe and a chest of drawers. Next to is a bathroom, with bath tub and a shower fitting.
Going upstairs to the upper floor there are two more bedrooms. The first is a twin room furnished with a chest of drawers and a wardrobe. The window looks out to the back of the property and villa gardens. This room can be made into a double if requested when booking. Next to this room is a bathroom with tub and a shower fitting.
The third bedroom is a large double bedroom which cannot be changed. It has a a fireplace to one side. There is a large mirrored wardrobe and a chest of drawers. This room like the rest of the house has terracotta tiled floors and a typical Tuscan villa ceiling of wooden beams and terracotta tiles.
The ground floor has a living area which features a beautiful stone arch in the centre of the room. The ceiling is a vaulted terracotta ceiling. This spacious and bright room is furnished with two double sofas and an armchair. To the back of the room is an ornamental piano. Double doors lead out to the garden.
To the back of the lounge is a small, kitchen suitably equipped to prepare snacks. It has a gas hobs, dishwash, and oven and a fridge with freezer. Also off the lounge is a bathroom with shower.

In the garden there is a table with chairs for dining al fresco.
Across the road is a good restaurant.

Wireless internet access available for an additional fee of 35 Euros per week. Please bring your own laptop.

There is a road passing directly in front of the villa. The front doors open directly onto this, care must be taken with children. There is some traffic passing, however there is privacy to the back of the villa, in the gardens and in the pool.

If two twin rooms or three double rooms are required please make sure it is requested when booking.

Pros UPDATE

The owner has made a number of improvements to Casa La Sosta

The downstairs kitchen worktop has been replaced.

The water is now run from the first floor which has improved the water pressure. There are no longer any issues with the hot water.

Two more chairs have been added to the dining room.

Pros - Goed ingerichte keuken op 1e etage.
- wasmachine aanwezig

Pros Casa La Sosta more than lived up to our expectations. The location was excellent, lovely views and in easy reach of the beautiful hilltop towns in the area. There was plenty of space for the 6 of us and ample storage for clothes. We loved the pool, and the 2 covered areas for outdoor living were ideal in the heat. We were only there for a week - wish it could have been longer.
Cons We had some trouble getting hot water in the bathroom on the first floor, but it wasn't a problem because we just used the downstairs shower.
Local attractions Castellina was a lovely town and only about 15 minutes away. Our favourite place, although further away, was San Gimigniano - a must to visit, with wonderful medieval buildings and although busy, not at all touristy. We also went to Sienna which we enjoyed, but didn't get to Florence - too many lovely local places to see. As for restaurants, Alla Piazzza opposite the house was really good. The personnel were charming and I have never tasted such wonderful homemade pasta! There are so many restaurants to choose from in the area that we were spoilt for choice.

Pros Casa La Sosta is a very nice traditional building set in a lovely location
Cons The only thing that could be a problem is the path to the pool as this is very steep and uneven. This could be a problem for older people staying or the very young it would be a lot better with steps and a hand rail.
Local attractions The restaurant across the road is very good all the villages in the local area are worth a visit. Panzano Sunday market is a good mix of food and local products.

Stay: July 2012
Pros Wonderful views, beautiful old villa, good pool, excellent ambience. It was a marvellous holiday. We loved the banks of lavender with the clouds of butterflies and the magical views in both directions. The local market in Panzano on Sunday was really good- small but gave us all the basics (fruit, veg, meat, bread) for the week without going to a ghastly supermarket! Definitely get wine, oil and honey from the castello in the village; all are excellent, and the castello is worth a visit anyway!
Cons Perhaps it's a little close to the road - and it's a shame that the kitchen doors open on to the roadway, which makes cooking with the doors open a bit uncomfortable. But that's quibbling! Please correct the directions to the villa when people book - it refers to Radda in Chianti which isn't on the sign and caused confusion in the dark! Better to substitute Panzano for Radda in the directions.
Local attractions Osteria La Piazza (across the road) is a fantastic restaurant. Absolutely wonderful classic Tuscan cuisine in a beautiful setting. And no problem about drinking a glass of wine and driving afterwards. Fantastic value for money and you can eat either pasta cheaply or have a 4 course meal which is exquisite. We ate there 3 times; everything we ate was wonderful; recommend particularly the pasta with hare, the pork with apples, the wild boar, the aubergines with truffles, the fried pancakes and all the puddings!! Plus go to the Panzano market, and buy wine/oil from the village (walking distance) - it's an experience seeing the old castle where it's sold.
