Cassiopea at Casalta

Cassiopea is a large first floor Tuscan villa with great views of the Chianti from it's many windows. It's entered from the central hamlet courtyard up original stone steps.
Inside there is a spacious dining area with a round marble table that seats six, to one side of this large room is a big cupboard. Like the rest of the villa this room has a terracotta floor and traditional Tuscan ceiling of terracotta and wooden beams.
To the right is a twin bedroom. In a corner is a wooden wardrobe and a fireplace against one wall. The room has plenty of light from the two windows looking into the courtyard and a third large window that looks out to the views of the Chianti hills.
A corridor from the dining area passes a bathroom with shower and goes onto the fully equipped kitchen. It includes gas hobs, a small fridge with freezer compartment, a microwave with grill. There is also a traditional Tuscan stone sink. In the centre of the room is a small, round wooden table with four chairs, there is a matching sideboard to one side.
The corridor continues to the left. At the end is a small guest toilet. Off the corridor is a double bedroom with a beautiful four poster iron bed. The room is complete by a wooden chest of drawers and a double wardrobe.
The spacious twin bedroom is also off the corridor. It has pretty iron beds which can be made into a double on request. Against one wall is a large wooden, double wardrobe. There is a designer lamp in one corner. Like the other rooms in this villa the ceiling is high therefore helps keep the room cool in the summer months.
If two doubles are required please request this when booking.
There is no private terrace but guests can use the communal terrace which is furnished with tables, umbrellas and chairs.
High-speed wireless internet access available for an additional small fee per week. Please bring your own laptop.

Casalta is a finely restored Tuscan hamlet of 9 villas that maintains all its original characteristics, with well maintained, simple gardens of local plant, shrubs and herbs. It is located in the heart of the Chianti within easy reach of Castellina in Chianti and Panzano in Chianti.
The pool is located a few steps away from the villas and is protected by a beautiful stone wall to one side, while the other has towering cypress trees through which there are fantastic views of the Chianti hills covered in vineyards and olive groves.
The hamlet, once owned by Galileo Galilei, is composed of two buildings around a quaint, traditional stone courtyard in which there is a pizza oven. To one side is an independent cottage while near the pool is a second, small cottage with the laundry. In front of the laundry is a large, stone terrace furnished with tables and chairs for communal use.
Pool Info
The pool is located up several stone steps behind the laundry room. It is protected from the hamlet by a high stone wall and iron gate. The other three sides of the pool are open with a cypress and fir trees.
Surrounding the pool is a large terracotta sun deck dotted with several umbrellas and sunbeds. Above the pool is a second, rarely used car park. There are some views of the Chianti hills through the cypress trees. The pool is 15 x 7 meter, 1.2-1.6 metres deep. Open from May to September.
Nearest town
Panzano is 5km from Casalta, this town has several shops and restaurants. Closer to the hamlet there is a the village Piazza where there is a good restaurant called Osteria della Piazza. Approximately 10km away there is another Chianti town, Castellina, where there are more shops and restaurants.

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
