Le Volte at Colle di Ama

Le Volte is a typical Tuscan villa that has a stone, courtyard entrance through a large iron gate. The courtyard is private to Colle di Ama. Outside the villa is an iron table with chairs for dining al fresco. To the back of the courtyard, down a step is a covered area with a bench for relaxing outdoors in the shade.
Inside a large wooden door there is an open plan kitchen-dining room. To the far side is a big glass door looking out to the road through the village, it shaded by a curtain which allows light to pass but provides privacy. The centre of the room has a wooden dining table that comfortably seats 6 to 8 people. To one side is a wooden sideboard. The room has the traditional Tuscan terracotta floor while the ceiling is with small terracotta vaults.
The kitchen is to the back of the room. It has a small central table for work space. To one side is the traditional Tuscan marble sink. Along another wall is the cooker with electric hobs, and a fridge with separate freezer compartment. The kitchen is well equipped. To the back is a small bathroom with shower.
From the centre of the room iron stairs lead to the first floor where there is a sitting area. It is nicely decorated with rugs, a triple sofa and two armchairs. In one corner is an antique, decorative stove that cannot be used. The windows look out towards the winery across the road.
Off one side of the room is a small study which has a writing desk and an armchair. This room also has pretty rugs covering the typical Tuscan terracotta floor. The ceiling is dome shaped with terracotta tiles. An antique cupboard has a collection of bookings and other reading material.
Stone steps lead sharply up to the second floor and onto a small landing. To the right is a double bedroom which can be converted into a twin. This is a smallish room, with a sloped, wooden beamed ceiling, which becomes quite low. There is a skylight in the lower part of the ceiling. Two armchairs and a wooden chest of drawers complete the furnishings.
To the other side of the landing is a double bedroom. This cannot be made into a twin. The room has a lovely warm feel from the gold colours of the furnishings. It has a large wooden wardobe, a chest of drawers and a couple of chairs. The window looks out to a beautiful view of the vineyards and several cottages and the neighbouring village. Next to this bedroom and the stairs is a small bathroom with shower.
The third double bedroom is off a short corridor at the end of which is a small store-room. This is the largest of the three bedrooms. It's decorated in lovely red colours. The ceiling is the highest of the three bedrooms. It is furnished with an armchair, chest of drawers and large wood wardrobe. Through an arched door is a bathroom with shower. The window looks out to the pretty views of the vineyards.

The owner's villa is above Le Volte, it's accessed from the courtyard. They are not permanent residents but stay occasionally.

Colle di Ama is a collection of four rental villas and the owners villa, located in the heart of a tiny Tuscan village, Casanuova di Ama, in which there is a winery. The village is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, providing it with typical Tuscan views.
The pool, which is private to the Colle di Ama villas, is located a short distace from the villas, behind the village buildings. From this fantastic position it looks out towards the rolling vine covered hills of the Chianti Classico region.
The little hamlet is located a few minutes drive away from Lecchi in Chianti amd Radda in Chianti, which places it in the perfect position to visit the Chianti as well as the historical towns of Florence and Siena.
There are other houses of the village attached to the villas that make up Colle di Ama.
During the grape harvest season there will be some farm noise from the winery.

Pool Info
The large pool is located behind the village is a position which provides it with some privacy. It is surrounded by a beautiful stone sun deck dotted with umbrellas and sun beds, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy the wonderful views that can be seen from this area.
The pool is used only by the Colle di Ama villas, other residents of the hamlet do not use it. There are roman steps into the pool.

Nearest town
The nearest grocery store to Colle di Ama is 5 minutes away, in the town of Lecchi in Chianti. Here there is a shop, restaurant and bar. Other nearby towns for shopping are Radda and Gaiole, which are both about 15 minutes drive away.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
