Il Faggeto is located a few minutes drive from Castellina in Chianti. It lies in the heart of the famous Chianti Classico wine region of Tuscany. The Villa is well furnished throughout and it is wonderfully private and peaceful with fantastic views.
The large pool is nestled in a private corner of the garden below the villa. It's is surrounded by bushes and shrubs and trees, making it a pretty oasis to cool off in with a dip in the crystal waters. To one side there are also some views of the Tuscan hills that surround the villa. There is a covered, furnished loggia by the pool and a small building where there is a games room which includes a billiard table and card tables.
The villa itself is a lovely original stone building on 3 floors, with a large, slightly sloped yet pretty, landscaped garden. There are views from various areas of the garden of the surrounding Chianti hills, covered with vineyards, olive groves and forests. There is a small stone courtyard with a covered terrace where a wooden table with chairs for dining outdoors is found. This area is by the kitchen and also has a wood oven by the al fresco dining area.
Inside Il Faggeto there is a large, spacious kitchen fully equipped. It has a central stone chimney around which there are the gas hobs, oven, a washing up area and some work space. To one side of the room is the fridge with freezer, more work space and a second washing up area. The entire room has the traditional terracotta tiles and the ceiling with wooden beams and terracotta.There are two tables with chairs within the large kitchen. There are two ovens and two fridges too.
Through the kitchen there is access down a few steps to the formal dining room. This large, spacious room also has terracotta floors. There is a large Persian carpet and an antique wooden table with 6 comfortable wood and leather chairs.
Down a few steps, from the dining area there is the lounge which consists of two spacious rooms. Between the two rooms there is a wonderful original stone arch. The floor is paved with terracotta and several rugs. In the room there are a couple of sofas and several armchairs. This part of the villa has high ceilings of terracotta and wooden beams. There is a stereo player with CD and an ‘honesty bar’ housed within an old safe!
Up some steps from the lounge there is a second sitting area which has a couple of chairs, a sofa, a writing desk and a wonderful selection of books. There is also a TV with some satellite channels and a DVD player. From this room there is access to the gardens and also to the dining room. Off the room is a study with a table and a couple of comfortable cushioned benches. To one side is a toilet.
The first floor is accessed from the kitchen. There is a large comfortable lounge with a traditional fireplace along one wall (the fireplace is non-functioning), a huge Persian carpet and a comfortable sofa and a chair arranged around a glass and iron table. From the various windows there are pretty views all around the property and of the Chianti hills.
To one side of the floor there are two spacious twin bedrooms that share a bathroom with a bath tub and shower. Both rooms have their original terracotta floors. They are furnished with lovely iron beds that cannot be made into a double, in one room the two beds can be arranged to be next to each other if you prefer, a wardrobe, chest of drawers and a writing desk.

The other side of the floor has two double bedrooms. The larger of the two rooms has a king size bed while the smaller room has a double bed. Both rooms have dressing tables, drawers and wardrobes. These two rooms share a bathroom with a bath-tub and shower. The rooms have warm terracotta floors and a ceiling with wooden beams and terracotta tiles.
The second floor is reached via an open wooden staircase which is relatively steep. There is a living area, simply furnished with comfortable sofas and rugs. The ceiling with it's wooden beams slopes to rather low points on either side of the room. The floors are paved in terracotta.
To one side of the floor is a spacious room with a high ceiling. The room is furnished with an iron, double bed and a matching single wardrobe, drawers and an antique dresser. The bathroom with shower and bath-tub is on the other side of the lounge area.
The owner lives in a little villa next to the main house, he and his wife will be available to assist guests should it be needed. The estate produces oil and wine and fruit and vegetables which is available to guests at certain times of the year.
There is a dog on the property.
There are mosquito screens in the bedrooms.
There is a laundry room at the property with two washing machines and a tumble dryer, iron and ironing board and drying rails.
The property is wonderfully private, with the nearest neighbour about 1km away, yet it is only 6km from Castellina in Chianti with all it's shops and restaurants.
NOTE: The owner will accept bookings for 10 people PLUS a child (using the single bed on the top floor)

Pool Info
The pool lies to the front of the house, it is a beautiful large pool with an irregular shape around an olive tree. There is a flag stone paving around it and a lovely lawn on one side. It is nestled between various plants and shrubs making it a wonderfully private yet sunny spot.
This welcoming part of the garden is dotted with sun-beds and the nearby trees provide plenty of shady areas to relax in.
The pool is 21x 6 metres and between 80cm and 220cm deep. It is open from May to October.
Nearest town
The nearest town is Castellina in Chianti, which is a lovely market town with all amenities. It is about 6km away. A couple of kilometres away is a good restaurant. Don't forget to try the excellent ice-cream shop in Castellina.

What were the highlights of your holiday? The amazing icecream in the village, wild boar hunting in the woods around the house!
What was your overall impression of the accommodation? Excellent. Beautiful and amazingly peaceful. A perfect tranquil hideaway. The house is an amazing mix of a italian farmhouse but filled with beautiful antiques and treasured family artifacts. It feels well loved and is stylishly furnished. It has an amazing kitchen and lovely outdoor eating areas (courtyard or down by the pool house). It was converted from a derelict farm by the owners grandparents and it feels like there is plenty of family history there. The linen etc is lovely quality, the kitchen is very well stocked with all necessary equipment and refreshingly they don't clear out all the salt and pepper etc so there are a few groceries in the cupboard to get you started and save buying all the essentials. The cleaner comes 6 days and does a wonderful job so it really is very spoiling! The pool is beautiful as is the garden and the pool room with a full sized billiard table (antique) is fantastic. It really is a wonderful place with exceptional views and no neighbours nearby. Castellina is also a lovely little town with a small selection of very good restaurants and gelataria to die for! Phillipo (the owner) was extremely friendly and helpful - providing us with fresh tomatoe's from his garden and herbs etc. He makes wine from the vineyard on the property which is delicious!!
Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us? Sort of... I think its worth explaining (or warning people) a) one of the "double" rooms has a queensized bed in it so could only be slept in by a single person (fine for us but wouldnt have worked if we had needed it for a couple). b) there is a dog on site who guards the house and the garden. She is an alsation so fairly scarry looking, BUT extremely soft and sweet - but I was a little nervous at first and surprised because of the children. c) the owner lives in the cottage adjacent to the house (5m away), again he is very discreet and lovely, infact very helpful but he is very much there and in some ways it makes it less private than if he didnt live on th premises.
Do you have any other comments regarding the accommodation or service? All above but we can recommend it very highly. Happy to answer other questions if you need it.

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
