In the middle of the Chianti Hills, tucked away amongst ancient oak trees and olive groves, stands an old stone farmhouse, La Selva. Despite it’s total privacy and seclusion, La Selva is only 10 km from the main highway and 6 km from Montevarchi a town with all amenities. The villa has been carefully restored using natural materials to preserve the original character of the villa.
There is an extensive natural garden that stretches out towards the mountains on the horizon, with inviting pathways that meander through meadows of wild flowers. In the garden there is a simple raised swimming pool with a wooden deck with sun chairs.
The villa itself reflects the total peace and tranquillity of its surroundings. The rooms are spacious and, furnished with antiques, yet there are all modern conveniences. La Selva is a villa for all seasons with its large stone walls that keep it cool in the warm summers and large open fireplaces that offer warmth and comfort during cooler months.
On entering the villa you find yourself in a comfortable living and dining room with Sat TV, video player and CD player. To one side there is a fully equipped kitchen that includes fridge/freezer, oven, gas hobs, dishwasher and a traditional pizza oven. On the other side there is another living area that has a TV and fireplace, from this room there is access to another, smaller fully equipped kitchen.
On this floor there are two well furnished double bedrooms, one of which has an extra bed. There are also two bathrooms; one has a shower and the other a bathtub. There is an externally accessed laundry area that has a washing machine.
On the first floor there is a large living room that has wonderful arched windows that provide a beautiful view over the villa grounds. Five bedrooms complete this floor. Three of these have en-suite bathrooms. One of the three is a twin room and two of the bathrooms have bathtubs. The other two bedrooms are a family suite of a double bedroom and a twin that share a bathroom that has a shower.
On one side of the 13 hectares that make up the grounds of the villa there is a small open air amphitheatre which has several shows during the summer months.
A small buffet will be supplied for you on the evening of your arrival. On booking please indicated the time you would like the buffet and the exact number of adults and children participating.

Pool Info
The swimming pool is located a few steps away from the villa. It is a raised pool with a wooden deck that is furnished with sun chairs. There is a large amount of shade from the trees near the pool so umbrellas are no provided. Surrounding the pool and the villa there is a large garden filled with fields of wild flowers, forests and olive groves.
The pool is 5 x 11 meters and 1.4 meters deep. It is open from June to Mid September.
On the large 13 hectare grounds there is a small amphitheatre which has regular shows during the summer months. Guests of the theatre will not disturb you in the villa.
Nearest town
Within walking distance there is the village Montegonzi that has a small grocery shop, church, post office and good restaurant, Osteria di Montegonzi. 6km away there is the town Montevarchi that has all amenities. In the area there are many restaurants.

We were surprised to learn that we had to take our rubbish(by car,too far to walk) down to the street,however later learnt that this is standard practise in Italy! There was a fault with the hot water service (did not click over from solar to power) but this was attended to promptly by the owner.

We had an nice contact with the owner, Paolo, who helped us concerning a problem with our caravan..When he couldn't come in the evening at La Selva, I gave water to the flowers and plants...
I have no remarks concerning your service: everything was OK.
Concerning the website: it is just to notice that cleaning is now two times a week (tuesday and thursday) instead of once on wednesday.[To Tuscany comment: this is amended in the loacal info box]
Concerning the accomodation: globally it was good. The only main remarks concerns the end of the private acces that is in a very bad state (not only a strong hill, but also many deep wholes...); some cars had real difficulties to reach the house[TT comment: the road has been fixed]...and the whish to have a ventilator in each bedroom.
There were no highlights: simply the whole week was fantastic ! Everybody was very happy and enjoyed the stay in that quiet and natural environnement.
There were no unpleasant suprises. Just a pity that part of the garden is now unreachable because a barrier was placed to avoid animals to enter and the mentionned state of the private road...[TT comment: an area of the property is fenced but guests can go everywhere]

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
