La Valle is a restored hay barn that lays on the hillside 300 metres walk (or 2km drive) from the exquisite village of Lecchi in Chianti. Surrounded by tracts of serene and timeless countryside La Valle can be found nestled amongst olives and vines in the sublime beauty of the Chianti landscape affording vistas decorated with the medieval castles of Monte Luco and Brolio beyond.

In addition to aesthetic pleasures, this region offers exceptional cuisine, enhanced by many of Italy's greatest wines, virtually every village possesses a noteworthy Trattoria where you can enjoy food unrivalled in its refined simplicity and Lecchi within 300 meters and San Sano within 3 km are no exceptions.

La Valle is at the end of a 500 meter private road which also acts as a foot path that passes the front iron gates of the house and down to Lecchi. There are extensive private gardens that are totally fenced with beautiful lawns and planted areas and paths to lead you from terrace to terrace and down to the pool and into the small olive grove at the foot of the land.

La Valle is on two levels that are joined by external stairs. The ground floor entrance is from the lower terrace and enters the kitchen dining area, ahead and the living area to the right. The modern kitchen is well equipped and fitted with gas hobs, electric oven, microwave oven, and fridge freezer. This well designed space has dining table and chairs laid in front of the kitchen area which in turn lead out onto the lower terrace with table and chairs.

To the right an arch leads to the living area with SAT TV, DVD and CD player. There is an open fire place and a sofa, armchair and coffee table, the large window opens to the views across the valley and the double doors lead out the lawns.

To the other side of the ground floor the corridor leads onto an ample double bedroom to the right and a bathroom with shower next to it. Sharing the bathroom and on the other side of the corridor is a larger bedroom which has a splendid opening onto the gardens and lawns. There is small laundry room at the end of the corridor with a washing machine.

The external terracotta stairs take you to the large upper terrace furnished with table and chairs, from here the vistas are even more dominant and the splendid Brolio Castle can been seen in the distance.

You enter into the second kitchen dining area, this kitchen is also well fitted and smaller than the kitchen on the ground floor, there is a table and chairs and to the right is a living area with fire place, TV and a sofa.

Ahead and to the right is the bedroom furnished in reproduction Tuscany farmhouse style, there is window with magnificent views. To the left as you enter is the ensuite bathroom with shower - here too there is a window which looks across the valley.

Internet WI-FI - available in the villa for free. Please bring your own laptop.

There is parking inside the fenced property

Florence is anderhalf uur rijden. Wij hebben de trein vanaf Montivarchi genomen, waarbij de trein je direct in het centrum afzet, en op loopafstand van alle bezienswaardigheden bent. Castello Brolio is 20 minuten rijden en een leuk uitje met mooi uitzicht.

Pros We are delighted to say that the owner has informed us that they have  changed both the upstairs and downstairs sofas and added a dishwasher in the kitchen.

Pros The outside space is stunning, totally private with beautiful views, well maintained gardens, various terraces for sun or shade at every time of day, and superb clean pool with loungers, shady sitting area - delightful!
The inside of the villa is immaculately clean, not a speck of dirt anywhere. The kitchen was well equipped including extras like tinfoil, washing up liquid etc. (we knew there was no dishwasher).
The owner Roberta and her husband were kindness itself, allowing us to rent midweek to midweek since we were there for l'Eroica race at the start of October, keeping the pool open for us, and meeting us on arrival with wine and cake.
The villa suited our family needs (grandparents in separate area upstairs, family downstairs) so we could meet up or have privacy as needed.
The location suited us to be near Gaiole for start of l'Eroica race.
Cons The inside was somewhat gloomy in the evenings since the low lighting was quite difficult to read by. The sitting areas, both upstairs and downstairs not especially comfortable. The seating upstairs especially was not adequate for even a couple - we could not sit together on the tiny sofa, the only seating apart from dining chairs. The location was really remote, down a long unmade road and then a very steep access road. Might be too remote for some. I was terrified of breaking Roberta's china and glass ornaments which were just everywhere and locked all these away as soon as we arrived! Language problems as they don't speak any English meant we misunderstood about leaving time and procedure. But they are so nice and willing to help, the nicest owners I have come across.
Local attractions Ristorante Malborgheto in nearby Lecchi was stunning. You can walk there, or drive in two minutes. Simone the owner provides fantastic food, lovely ambience and setting... And cookery courses. Don't miss this place! Had lovely meal also at Badia a Coltibuono and tour of winery. Siena was an easy drive away... The Duomo was amazing inside, the highlight of the tour. Radda, Volpaiai and Castellina in Chianti were very pleasant places to visit also. L'Eroica race, our reason for coming, was brilliant fun!

Pros Beautiful villa, lovely gardens and pool, set in fabulous countryside. The keyholders couldn't have been nicer or more helpful - very nice people.
Cons A little bit too isolated for our party and too many insects attracted to us when swimming (not the owners' fault!)
Local attractions Small village within walking distance, which was lovely. A bar/restaurant, another bar and a restaurant plus a little shop that sold everything. The nearby town of Radda has a large supermarket, lots of small shops and restaurants and is an interesting place to visit.

Pros La Valle was physically comfortable, beautiful and in a great location.
Cons The only issue, which is very minor, was that the hosts spoke very little English, and that made the orientation very difficult.
Local attractions Lecchi and San Sano were conveniently close to La Valle, and both locations had excellent restaurants. The views and pool were wonderful. We enjoyed the mornings and evenings sitting outside the villa.

Pros - Beautiful setting on the hillside with wonderful views - perfect for dining al fresco
- Easy walking access through the woods to Lecchi (10 minutes max) which has a small store, a coffee/wine bar and a good restaurant.
- ... yet totally private
- Beautiful and well-maintained gardens
- Everything works, is very clean and in very good condition (including the pool)
- Very well equipped (no dishwasher, but we knew this)
- Short drive to Radda (10-15 minutes)
- Pool towels provided
Cons Roberta and Aurelio do not speak English, but this is more than made up for by their friendliness.
Local attractions Lecchi is a quiet and pleasant village and you can walk to it through the woods, the path is a bit confusing the first time (especially in the dark!) but you get the hang of it. Malborghetto is a good restaurant - food and atmosphere, though a bit expensive for everyday. The shop and attached cafe/wine bar is friendly and quite well-stocked, but not open on Sunday. Radda is beautiful for strolling and has a number of wine bars and restaurants (Pizza Pie offers huge, very good and cheap pizzas, at the other end of the scale is La Botte di Bacco for a special evening). There is a well-stocked (and often very busy) Coop (open Sunday morning). Casa Porciatti is a quality grocers. Siena isn't far away and definitely worth the excursion.

Pros Everything was perfect and the pictures were exactly like it was. Roberta and Aurillio were great and happy to help out whenever needed in a very prompt way.
Cons The villa and gardens were superb. The only improvement would be to clear the walking track to Lecchi as it is well overgrown and hard to get through.
Local attractions San Sano restaurant was great. The supermarket at Lecchi was very good and friendly. Malborghetto restaurant was not that good this time in Lecchi

Pros The location, the pool, the garden, privacy, high standard of conversion, the separate upstairs accommodation, a lovely welcome, prompt help from the manager. The stunning scenery. Very little traffic.
Cons The furniture in the living room is a bit shabby, too many kitschy ornaments, the quality of bedding (we could have done with more blankets), a dishwasher would be nice, the manager and her husband are lovely and helpful but could speak a bit more English, the cost of heating could turn to be high if used a lot. The path to Lecchi is impenetrable. We ended up in a lady's farm yard. It is perfect for a quiet poolside holiday but you need to drive to get to any attractions. There could be more information about local amenities, brochures, maps etc. in the villa.
Local attractions Radda is lovely and has many good restaurants. Several vineyards nearby with helpful staff and interesting tours. We went to Albola. If you go to Siena on the market day, go very early as parking becomes impossible later. We visited the sculpture park which was interesting.
