Castello di Ama

Castello di Ama

Castello di Ama is one of the main Chianti wine producing estates, located in the heart of the Chianti only 30minutes drive from Siena and 15 minutes drive from Gaiole in Chianti and Radda in Chianti.
It is possible to do a wine tasting tour of the estate. This must be booked in advance and is available only from Monday to Saturday.
The tour includes a visit and explanation of the vineyards and cellars, both the modern and old cellar, as well as a tour of the estate which includes the villa and gardens and a viewing of the collection of contemporary art that it houses. The art collection includes works by artists such as Michelangelo Pistoletto, Anish Kapoor and Louise Bourgeois. The wine tasting is of 4 wines, the Al Poggio IGT, Il Chiuso IGT, Castello di Ama Chianti Classico and a selection of Vigneto, and their extra virgine DOP Chianti Classico olive oil. It lasts for about 2.5 hours.

For more information about the cost and bookings please contact Castello di Ama.

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
