Podere Renuccioli is a lovely property a short distance from Fiesole and only 10km from North of Florence, making it the perfect location to enjoy the city as well as the pretty Tuscan countryside. The property is on a large estate which includes the surrounding olive grove and some of the forest, making it a wonderfully peaceful location.
In the well maintained garden there is a sparkling pool which looks out to the pretty views. Around the pool is a wooden deck with sunbeds and a covered terrace with comfortable sofas, and a dining table to enjoy pool side meals al fresco.
It is composed of a large villa and the cottage. The large villa is used privately by the English owners for family holidays, the housekeeper has a small apartment at the villa.
The cottage is a Tuscan barn converted into a luxury villa for 2 people. It has many of the traditional Tuscan aspects such as terracotta tiles crisscrossing the windows which provide plenty of light into the rooms while keeping the villa cool. Outside is a shady terrace looking towards the pool and views. It is furnished with a small stone table and iron chairs.
The entrance to the villa is to the back and a short walk from the terrace. It opens into a bright, spacious, open plan living area. To one side is a well equipped kitchen which includes a small fridge with internal freezer compartment, oven and gas hobs. Next to this windows look out towards the owner's villa.
To the far end of the room is the large wooden dining table which comfortably seats 6 people. The windows behind the table look onto the garden and pool. The room is completed by a large, comfortable double sofa. Throughout the villa there are wooden floors and the ceiling is done in the traditional Tuscan villa style with wooden beams and terracotta tiles.
The bedroom has plenty of space and is furnished tastefully in dark colours that offset the wooden floor and ceiling. There is a large double bed and a relaxing chair. Plenty of wardrobe space is provided by the double door wardrobe. The bathroom is a modern room with a box shower.
There is air conditioning in the bedroom and living room, it charged for by consumption.

Below the cottage is a storeroom for garden and maintenance equipment, the gardener will be using this occasionally.

New for 2014 season: the pool will be shared with the owners, when they are at the house, the family includes 2 children.

This is a non-smoking house and estate, no smoking is allowed within the cottage, the house or the gardens.

Pool Info

The large pool is located about 100metres from the cottage, passing down a sloped gravel path surrounded by terraced gardens which are planted with flowers, rosemary, lavender and some vegetables. To one side is a large olive grove. The entire garden is perfectly maintained and has a wonderful view down the valley and onto the forest covered hills dotted with Tuscan towns and villas that surround the property. New for 2014 season: The owners may make occasional use of the swimming pool, but try to ensure their guests have as much privacy as possible.
The pool area is wonderful with full sun on the pool itself and the wooden deck with plenty of sunbeds next to it. Steps along one width provide an ideal place to relax in the cool water while enjoying the views. Next to the pool is a covered wooden terrace which is furnished with tables and chairs for dining next to a large barbeque. To the other side is a comfortable lounge area with sofas and a hammock.
The pool is 12x6 metres, 1.2-2.2 metres deep and it is open from mid May to mid September. Pool towels are supplied.

Pros As requested we had the villa to ourselves and spent most of the week around the excellent pool - which was extremely relaxing. (we were luckly that we were in the middle of a hear wave). All of the furniture and equipment was of very good quality and easy to use.
The villa is also 5 mins away from a reasonable supermarket (so there was no need to purchase the stater pack.)

This is a very private villa and is in a quiet area (not sure what it would be like if the main house is occupied.

This villa exceeded our expectation - we had a wonderful week.

Also we would like to thank the caretaker, Diesh, (hope that is the correct spelling) who was very helpfull.

Cons Two small points - around the perimeter of the pool there was dozens of wasps - this was not a problem to us and we were not bothered by them (the villa is surrounded by fields so you would expect some wildlife) - The road surface up to the entrance is quiet uneven
Local attractions We ate at La Reggia degli Etruschi, in Fiesole, which was excellent. Our only other day out was to Sienna (we had spent 4 days in Florence before arriving at the villa) - both are spectacular.

Owner Comment: Thanks Tony for your very kind comments. I will pass your kind words on. Re the wasps yes they can be a problem, but as you say in the natural environment and one we are keen to retain, they can be a pest. I have never been stung there! We maintain the road periodically, however these "Strada Bianca" white roads are quite a common feature in Italy and in particular country Villas. Your comments is however noted. Regards, Jeremy

Pros alles

zwembad: ruim, zeer schoon, volkomen privé, prachtig uitzicht

From the owner: Thankyou for taking time to make your review. I am very sorry you were not entirely satisfied with your stay. I have looked and considered adding a Dishwasher, but with limited space and only 2 occupants I have taken the decision to retain the washing machine. I may reconsider this, but worry I will get complaints about lack of washing machine! The barn below is a work space and not part of the rental property, as such is not open for consideration. Thankyou for your practical comments too. Re the lighting, this is difficult as the table can be positioned in many locations. I will look to add a tray, as per your request. Glasses, I again will review, but believe there is sufficient supply and variety. Bins, you are welcome to separate the Organic and Other items, the waste disposal is your responsibility. I do not wish for the apartment to be full of bins, when space and quality of space is at such a premium. Once again thanks for taking the time to provide us with the feedback you have.

Pros The pool and accompanying equipment. The high standard of convenience throughout. The interior of the flat was lovely, the location excellent.
Cons There was no broom to sweep up in the kitchen! There was no washing line to dry things (although there was a washer-drier, not everything can be tumble-dried).
Local attractions We loved Fiesole. The train into Florence was really handy. The Pizza restaurant in Fiesole San Domenico, and Mario's in Querciola were both good. We had the BEST steak in Toto's in central Florence.

Owner's reply: Many thanks for your comment. We have as a result placed a long handled broom, not just a dust pan in the barn, along with a drying rack to dry cloths that cant be tumbled. Appreciate you drawing the points to our attention.

Pros Having the use of the pool and plenty of alternative places to sit outside, offering different views was wonderful. The air conditioning was great and having insect screens on the windows allowed us to open windows when the air con was not being used, creating a pleasant and comfortable environment at all times. The position of the villa was particularly good. 20-30 mins from airport/florence. 5 mins drive from a reasonably well stocked supermarket and 15 mins drive from the beautiful town of fiesole.
Cons A dishwasher would have been nice but appreciate that space in the villa is at a premium.
Local attractions Restaurants: Villa San Michele, fiesole - expensive but magical and with amazing views over florence. Perfect for a special occasion. Golden view, florence. - great food and views of the pointe vecchio Trattoria le Cave di Maiano, fiesole. - where the locals go apparently. Excellent Tuscan food.

Pros The villa was equipt to a very high standard and was very clean. The bed was very big and comfortable. The view from the house was lovely. The house keeper was very friendly and approachable and leant us maps & books. The surroundings were beautiful. There was a very good local shop close by.
Cons There was nothing we didn't like, the villa was excellent and really comfortable. We did feel that a villa situated on the other side of Florence may have been more suitable for us as we would like to have explored central Tuscany a bit more but that was an error on our part.
Local attractions We enjoyed visiting Fiesole where there was an amazing little shop full of handmade ceramics, we also enjoyed lunch here but I don't recall the name of the restaurant, it was one recommended in the villa's welcome pack. The surrounding mountains were also lovely just to drive up and around. Florence was lovely and there is a train station close to the villa so it was easy & quick to catch the train into the city. We also took a day trip down to Siena (by car) which we would highlighly recommend.
