On the South West part of the property this one bedroom house has open views from  its private terrace and garden planted with fragrant flowers of Tuscany. From the  raised terrace there are great views of the sun setting on famous rolling hills that tumble down the valley towards Siena.
The single story end cottage of Fornaio is entered from the south side, three steps take you up to the front door and into the lounge area with large fire place. There is a comfortable double divan and arm chair. The coffee table and writing table are made of dark chestnut wood, matching the bookcases.  The apartment has a flat screen Smart TV that connects to the satellite and Internet, and USB slots for flash drives.  There is also a DVD player (world code 2) and a radio/CD player.

The well designed house has a spilt level. From the lounge there are three steps  which lead up to the kitchen dining area. The kitchen and dining furniture is made of dark stained wood in the old Tuscan style. The kitchen has a polished granite top and includes 4 gas hobs, an electric oven, a fridge, a dish washer, a toaster and coffee maker. There is ample kitchen/dining facilities for four people provided.
A corridor leads you down to the bathroom and bedroom. Straight ahead is the bathroom which is light and open, there is a large shower with a tile seat for  showering in extra comfort. To the left is the bedroom furnished in old Tuscan style made of dark stained wood, there is a triple wardrobe offering ample storage space. Beside the double bed (US Queen size) there are two bedside tables with reading lamps. From the bedroom a door leads out to the main terrace furnished with table and chairs for outdoor dining.

The first class restoration on this cottage means all the fixtures and fittings are to a high standard. There are terracotta floors and the traditional terracotta and oak beam ceilings throughout.

Location: Pretaccione

Podere Pretaccione, 1000 year old, was once the home of itinerant priests. Located in the heart of the Chianti Classico wine region, Pretaccione provides a restful, rural setting just 20 minutes from historic Siena. The main building has been carefully restored into eight spacious apartments, each comfortably furnished in keeping with the terracotta floors, stone archways and beamed ceilings. A large swimming pool and tennis court with garden furniture are set on a lawned terrace just below the farmhouse.  The ancient stone patios provide expansive views of the Arbie River as it winds through the valley toward Siena.
The houses all have private gardens with terraces furnished with tables and chairs for al fresco eating. The pretty village of San Sano, 4km away, boasts an excellent country style restaurant and a small grocery store with a bar.
Pretaccione is on the property of the Dievole Winery and spa, a short drive or a healthy walk up a country road. Visitors are always welcome for wine tastings and special dinners at the winery.

Pros The house, the facilities and the feel of the place meant that it was a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday. We went to Siena, Florence and San Gimignano and they were very accessible from this location.
Cons The drive leading from the main road was terrible. Our poor cheap hire car didn't have the suspension to cope with it, no matter how slowly we went. I know that it would be impossible to fix but it was quite annoying.
Local attractions The restaurant at Lecchi was excellent and we also hired a guy to cook us a meal on one of our last nights, which was well worth it.

Pros It's in a beautiful setting, and the terrace is a fantastic place to enjoy a leisurely meal. The apartment is a great size for two people, and is comfortable throughout - there's nothing we wanted that we didn't have. We did have a nightmare with lost baggage and being unable to collect our hire car, but the Keyholders were fantastic in helping us out - they saved what could have been a disastrous honeymoon!
Cons Only complaint would be that when we were there, there were no tennis balls to go with the tennis racquets!
Local attractions Florence and Sienna are obviously incredible, but our other favourite spots were Castellina, Brolio and a wonderful restaurant in Lecci.

Cons Lighting too dim and view was not as nice as some that were on the hilltops or slopes.

Pros The area is in a valley, surrounded by a vineyard. Beautiful setting.
Cons The road!
Local attractions We had to travel to get to different areas...but we were in the Chianti Region. It was probably a half hour to 1 hour drive to get to a town with restaurants and shopping. Gaiola (sp?) in Chianti had a COOP for grocery shopping. Radda in Chianti and Greve in Chianti were a lot of fun. I would say Greve had wonderful restaurants, Radda was good and very inexpensive shopping.

Local attractions Sienne, Greve in Chianti, San Gimignano.....

Pros The villa was very beautiful. We loved the thick stone walls, and even though the temperatures were in the mid 30's (HOT), the villa was cool. Great location and beautiful views.
Cons The road into the villa was very rough and rocky and very narrow.
Local attractions the towns of Radda, Leccie and Cristillanie were beautiful and the shopping was good.

Pros Heerlijk Toscaans huis.
In the middle off noware dus relatief veel rust. Toch Sienna heel dichtbij.

Pros The setting is beautiful, there is a pool and a tennis court, the villas are really nice and you are within driving distance of historic and beautiful towns and villages.
Cons One of the neighbours was blasting music which made it hard to sleep on a couple of the nights.
Local attractions We travelled quite far from Fornaio most of the time and didn't use the local restaurants too much.

Pros The location was great. It was secluded and quiet but close to cute little towns (Radda, San Sano) or larger towns (Siena) if you like. The villa was well kept, clean and cozy. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom well appointed. The grounds of Pretaccione were well kept with a beautiful rose garden and other flowers. We met some great neighbors during our stay, which always makes traveling that much sweeter!
Cons It would have been nice if the fireplace worked ( I booked the villa with the fireplace in mind). The washing machine sticks mid cycle. As much as we enjoyed our stay here we would not stay again unless we had direct access in our villa to the internet. It was much too hard to plan our next days travel route without it. It is available at the residence as other tenants had it, but was not available to us with this villa when we booked. It is too much trouble to have to go into town to use the internet. We needed to get tickets and such and had to waist a lot of time in town during the day to book and make arrangements when we could have done this in the evening at our leisure if we had internet in the villa. It is a huge mistake in our opinion to not have internet access and would be the only reason we will not return next year. I would not recommend the villa because of this reason......I would not want our friends to have the same problems and frustrations on planning like we did. If the owner included internet we would stay here again.
Local attractions Radda was great for pizza at Pizza Pie. We ate there at least 3 times. Radda also has amazing views and is a cute little town. San Sano was our favorite for it's beauty and the little restaurant there is wonderful. Some of the best ravioli ever!! The main waiter there was one of the best waiters we had in all of Tuscany.

Pros We loved the serenity of the Tuscan countryside. Fornaio at Pretaccione was the perfect place to enjoy all that Tuscany has to offer. This was our first trip to Tuscany, hopefully not our last and we would certainly stay here again.
Cons There was nothing we didn't like about Fornaio at Pretaccione. We arrived after dark and we did have a lot trouble finding it, speaking to other people staying on the property, they all seemed to have had similar problems, maybe this is an issue that needs to be addressed.
Local attractions Our favourite place was Radda in Chianti and our favourite place to eat was Cafe La Chianti, their homemade pasta with a simple tomato sauce made from the freshest ingedients was simply to "die for" Their cheesecake was the best we have ever had !!

Pros The property is very cool in the hot summer days and with windows on opposite sides, it gets plenty of fresh air inside. There is a sufficient quantity of cutlery and dishes, a nice CDs and DVDs collection. The bathroom is extremely comfortable, there is more than ample storage space and the bed is also of very good quality.
Cons The dirt road getting there is a bit of a deterrent, as well as the relatively small windows that make it a bit somber on rainy days.
Local attractions We definitely enjoyed La Grotta della Rana in San Sano more than Malborgheto in Lecchi. The latter has a distinctive tourist feel to it, which is a definite minus.

Pros I loved having a peaceful place to return to each night after a day of sightseeing. The pool was always a refreshing end to a wonderful day of touring. The location was very central to touring the Tuscany Region.
Cons The final directions to the house were a bit confusing as the statue is not visible from the road. The drive into the house on the dirt road was a bit intimidating but after doing it a few times it really wasn't that bad.
Local attractions The nearby town of San Sano had a wonderful Trattoria La Grotta della Rana.

Pros It was incredibly beautiful. We have never seen such pastoral beauty in such an ancient, remote setting. Having the pool was fabulous, as it was extraordinarily warm this season. The kitchen was extremely well equipped and beautifully updated, as was the bathroom. The gardens were lovely.
Cons Although the location was beautifully remote, we were a bit caught off-guard that we were at least a 20 minute drive from any provisions at all. While this was nice in many ways, we had expected to be able to walk to coffee or a store for bread. Also, no internet - which is a bit unheard of in this day and age.
Local attractions Loved the store, bar/wi-fi spot, and lovely restaurant in Lecchi. Radda was also a lovely town with more extensive provisions. The winery/castle at Verrizano had a fantastic tour/tasting/lunch. To and from Florence, Cortona was a wonderful spot to stop for lunch and a great walk.

Pros We spent a week at Fornaio, and what a magnificent, relaxing week it was. It was beautifully quiet, extremely comfortable and the pool was perfect ... clean, crystal clear and with the most amazing backdrop. Fornaio actually exceeded our expectations, which is rarely the case, you always build something up and end up a little disappointed, but this place was the opposite, the pictures don't do the place justice, would highly recommend it and will be coming back again.
Cons The only thing that we didn't like were the deck chairs by the pool, they were really uncomfortable and it wouldn't take much to replace those or provide cushions for guests to use, also, there were wasps nesting in all of the umbrellas by the pool, we didn't get stung or anything but it's something that should be kept on top of. The long dirt drive-way also made it impossible to keep the car clean, maybe a hose and some washing equipment by the carpark could be a good idea also. Wifi would also be a massive bonus, would have saved us driving to Radda everyday to load our masses of amazing photos onto Facebook!
Local attractions We checked out a lot of the nearby townships and kept finding ourselves back at Radda, there's a number of good restaurants there and the view from the Gelato shop with the free wifi is to die for. It also has a number of Enoteca's, a Coop (grocery store) and some nice little boutique shops.

What were the highlights of your stay?    The lovely gardens
What was your overall impression of the accommodation?    Very nice
Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us? It was quite cold the first night and there were no spare blankets, but after calling one of the local caretakes (Sorry I forget her name) she came straight away and found another blanket for us.
Do you have any other comments regarding the accommodation or service? It was a little remote so we would not stay here again, but the service from To Tuscany was so wonderful that next time to come to Tuscany I will start looking for accommodation first with you.

Wie war Ihr Gesamteindruck von der Unterbringung? Positiv.
Gab es unangenehme Überraschungen? Nein
