Mastro 5 is a pretty Tuscan villa located in the heart of the quaint Chianti village of San Sano. It has a large garden, shaded by a Liberian pine and tall cypress, and looks out towards the pool area. Across the road from the hamlet is a good restaurant. Passing through the garden and up to the villa there is a big loggia. This spacious covered terrace is furnished with a table and chairs for 6 to one side and a double and a triple sofa to the other side.
Inside the villa there is a large open plan room, which has the traditional ceiling of oak beams and terracotta tiles. The floors are all paved with terracotta. Along a wall is the stone built kitchen unit, which is fully equipped and includes gas hobs, oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge with separate freezer. In the centre of the room is a beautiful wooden table which can be opened up to seat up to 8 people. It is surrounded by several high quality chairs. In one corner is a comfortable armchair. Two glass doors to the terrace and a window provide the room with plenty of light during the day.
To the back of this room is access to a small, narrow twin bedroom. This room cannot be made into a double. In the room is a chest of drawers and a window that looks out onto the terrace.
A little hall off the living area leads to the two bathrooms with showers and the double bedroom. The bedroom is furnished with a wardrobe and chest of drawers. In one corner of this pretty typical Tuscan style bedroom is a TV. In one of the bathrooms is the washing machine.
The twin room cannot be made into a double.
Note that the washing machine has been installed at To Tuscany's request, however presently it is a temporary set up so there is a pipe across the bathroom floor. It and the shower cannot be used simultaneously.

Location: San Sano

Savor the historic richness of San Sano while enjoying a relaxing day by the pool situated within the property’s private vineyards. Staying in the pristine village is a unique journey back into time when life was slow and passionate; and neighbors sat in their yards and sipped wine while watching the sunset.
The village of San Sano is a step back into thousands of years of history. With less than 100 residents, San Sano is nestled among the vineyard-covered rolling hills of Tuscany. Within the small village, is the property once owned by a local winemaker, and now fully restored into individual villas with every detail carefully monitored to ensure the structures remain authentic and untainted.
San Sano has one restaurant, a small grocery store, and an intimate church with Sunday morning services at 10. This medieval village is surrounded by walking paths, which are ideal for early morning walks and bike rides. The large pool is on the edge of the villas, adjacent to the vineyards. The pool, accessed by ladders, is 14 meters by 7 meters and has comfortable sunbeds in which to relax while catching up on reading. The pool is open from Easter through November.
San Sano has a rich history – just ask any local! They’ll tell you about the “boozy frog” fountain in the small park where neighbors gather throughout the day. Many years ago, a resident of San Sano was a contestant on a game show and told an outrageous tale about how the frogs in his village got drunk from drinking Chianti wine from the bottle. It was such a wild story that he won the contest and with his prize money, he bought the fountain for the community to enjoy.

The villas in San Sano are ideal for traveling couples who want to split their holiday time between wine tastings, relaxing around the pool, walks in the surrounding areas and taking day trips to other villages, and dining in all the great Tuscan local restaurants. One couple may want to explore, while the other couple stays at the villa.

San Sano is a short drive to dozens of charming villages, and the larger communities of Gaiole in Chianti, Radda and Siena. It has everything anyone could imagine to capture the true Tuscan experience.
A parking area is available for guests use.

Pros The Villa Mastro 5 is a beautiful traditional stone villa, probably one of the smaller on-site, yet with more than ample space for a family of four (inc two teenagers), having a double bedroom, a smaller twin, and a large living area. Although, with a large covered terrace and table set on the front lawn, you're likely to spend more time outside than in. Clean, tidy, well equipped and traditionally decorated, this Villa is ideal. The private garden to the front of the Villa, with its surrounding hedges gives you the feeling of space and privacy, yet the pool and the local 'trattoria' couldnt be any closer. A definate to recommend to friends.
Cons There was nothing to dislike about either Mastro 5 or San Sano, this was the location and the Villa that we had hoped for on this vacation. Although, installing ceiling fans in the bedrooms would provide added comfort.
Local attractions Having la Grotta della Rana on site is a huge bonus to staying in San Sano. This 'Trattoria' serves wonderful tuscan meals, has an extensive local wine list, and the friendliness of service is a delight. Radda-in-Chianti, a ten minute drive away is worth a visit, spectacular views into the valley, with some nice shops and restaurants. Within an hours drive of San Sano you can reach Siena, Florence, Piza and the coast, so quiet, yet an ideal base to expolre Tuscany.

Pros Het was een leuk buurtgenootschap met een prima zwembad en een restaurant/winkeltje om de hoek. Siena was makkelijk bereikbaar.
