Alabastro at Sant'Anastasio

Alabastro is a pretty Tuscan villa, well restored to a good standard into a characteristic home. It is centrally located in the hamlet and has neighbours on either side. In front of the villa is a small garden which has a paved terrace with umbrella and table with chairs. A short walk away from the villa is a second garden area that is protected by hedges. Both gardens have wonderful open views over the countryside around Volterra.
Inside the villa is completely paved with terracotta and has the tradition Tuscan ceiling of wooden beams with terracotta tiles. A large arched glass and iron door provides the living area and kitchen with plenty of light. The lounge is furnished with comfortable sofas, one is a double and the other a triple. To one side is a large wall unit which contains a nice selection of books and dvds.
Passing under an arch is the kitchen and dining area. This room is graced by a wonderful brick fireplace. In the centre of the room is a wooden table with 6 chairs. The kitchen unit is across the back wall. It is a built in unit with lovely wooden doors and a travertine top. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes a large fridge with separate freezer, oven and hobs.
Off this room there is a small hall which provides access to the bedrooms. The first bedroom is a double room which can also be set up as twin, this must be requested when booking. The bedroom is furnished with a huge wardrobe, a full length mirror and a chest of drawers. A window looks out to the views beyond the property. Next to the bedroom is a bathroom with hand painted tiles, it has a large shower.
In the hall there are several steps up to a higher level. At the top of the steps is a small laundry room. To one side is access to a large triple bedroom. Immediately on entering there is a single bed. Passing under an arch is a bright area of the room which has a double bed. This can be made into a twin if requested when booking. To one side is a large glass door providing access to a small shady garden. In the room is a large wardrobe and a chest of drawers. There is a pretty en-suite bathroom tiled with handpainted tiles, it has a shower.

The pool is approximately 100metres away.

San'Anastasio is a lovely typical Tuscan hamlet located between Colle Val d'Elsa and Volterra. It has been restored to a high standard and is composed of 20 apartments and a small hotel.
At one end of the hamlet there is a large pool with several sun-beds and umbrellas. It is surrounded by spectacular views of the rolling Tuscan hills covered in fields, vineyards, forests and dotted with villas and small villages.
The hotel has a bar which can be used by the villa guests, it also has a large reception room which is used for weddings. There is a small chapel in the main square of San Anastasio. The hamlet is about 1km from the main road to Volterra from San Gimignano and Colle Val d'Elsa, the road can be seen in the distance and some limited noise can be heard.
Pool Info
The pool is a large irregular shaped pool located at the far end of the hamlet. It is a large infinity pool with spectacular views of the surrounding rolling Tuscan hills covered in fields, forests and vineyards.
The pool has a wooden sun deck to one side and a large paved deck to the otherside. Both areas are furnished with sun beds and umbrellas. There is also an outdoor shower area and some toilets. The pool is 10 x 4 metres and 1.2 metres deep, it is open from mid-May to September.
Nearest town
Volterra is a 12.5km away. It is a lovely town with a large choice of shops and restaurants. There are also other amenities such as banks, post office, pharmacy and doctors office. Within about 20minutes drive you can reach Colle Val d'Elsa where there is a large supermarket and further restaurants.

Alabastro est très bien situé pour se rendre à Volterra ou à San Gimignano (villes proches); mais est aussi à équidistance de Sienne, Florence et Pise.

Het uitzicht, de rust, het mooie zwembad, mooi ingericht appartement met alles voorhanden! Eigenaresse van de Borgo is super vriendelijk.
Volterra op 15 minuutjes rijden. San Gimingiano op half uurtje.

Ligging, zwembad, omgeving, rust
Die gastvrouw was een beetje raar. Ze deed steeds tegenstrijdige verhalen. De elektriciteit op het complex deugt niet zodat de ijskast steeds uitviel en als je het ene apparaat aanzette, viel het andere uit. Daar hebben schijnbaar alle bewoners (kopers) al 5 jaar last van daar. Voor een weekje niet erg, maar ze had het beter even kunnen melden. Dan hadden wij niet op die ijskast e.d. hoeven "schelden". We zouden ook in het restaurant kunnen eten zei ze, maar dat bleek helemaal nooit open te zijn (vanwege problemen met de lectriciteit).
We hebbeb gewoon alle bekende mooie plaatsjes bezocht in de buurt en lekker gegeten maar hoe die restaurants heten ??????

The villas have 4KW of power which is usual for this type of villa in Tuscany, using the oven and iron simultaneously for example can cause the electric to trip/switch off. Fridges are normally defrosted before arrivals so when turned on and filled with food full cooling may take some hours.

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
