Valtellina is a lovely restored traditional Tuscan barn, which retains many of the original features yet offers all the modern home comforts. The property sleeps up to 10 people and has four bedrooms and two bathrooms in the main house with a one bedroom annexe with ensuite bathroom. Built into the hillside in a peaceful location surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and oak forest this is a perfect place to relax and unwind.
The private pool is located on a lower level at the rear of the main house. It is a large oval in shape and has internal steps leading down into the refreshing water. The paved surround has plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas.
Relaxing by the pool you have fantastic views over the surrounding countryside. Due to the nature of the terrain and the number of stairs and steps at this property, it would not be suitable for those with mobility problems.
Outside there are several terraces, one at the rear of the property, one outside the kitchen and a further raised terrace which has a dining table and chairs with panoramic views across the countryside to the hilltop village of Lecchi. A staircase leads down from here to the annexe which is located underneath the raised terrace. Floor to ceiling glass doors lead into a bedroom with twin beds, tiled floors and an ensuite bathroom with shower, basin and WC.
The entrance to the house is via a hibiscus covered terrace which is furnished with dining table and chairs which are perfect for outside dining. The door opens into the kitchen which has fitted units along two walls with built in oven separate gas hobs, dishwasher and fridge/freezer.
In the centre of the room is a dining table and chairs. At one end of the kitchen there are two archways, one leading to a downstairs bathroom with WC and basin, and the other leads into a utility room with a second fridge/freezer, washing machine and dryer.
A door at the opposite end of the kitchen takes you through into the dining room which has a large wooden table with seating for ten and a fireplace to one end. There are bottles of wine here made from the surrounding vineyard which are available for purchase.
Two archways lead through into the living area which was originally where the livestock were housed. There is a bright open study with a desk and doors opening out onto a terrace, there is a comfortably furnished lounge with armchairs arranged around an open fireplace.
A further smaller lounge is off to the right and here is where the TV and DVD player are located.
Upstairs there are four bedrooms all with terracotta tiled floors and tiled and beamed ceilings. The first bedroom is the master bedroom which has two windows a wardrobe and a double bed. There is a large ensuite bathroom with full size bath with hand held shower, a separate shower, WC, bidet and basin.
There is another door which opens onto the landing so the bathroom can be accessed from outside the bedroom. Across the hall is a twin bedroom which shares the bathroom with the master bedroom.
To the rear of the house are a further two bedrooms, both with twin beds. They share an unusually laid out bathroom which has a bath, basin and WC with a separate shower located off the bathroom in a separate room.
Both of these bedrooms have doors opening out onto a terrace which runs the across the rear of the property and has an outside sofa, armchairs and table. The smaller of the two bedrooms can only be accessed via the larger bedroom or from the outside terrace.
Surrounded by a working vineyard this is a very beautiful and peaceful location, perfect for those wishing to unwind and relax, and still be close to a village.
The private pool is located on a lower level at the rear of the main house.
One bedroom annexe with ensuite bathroom is located under the main terrace. Since the property is built on a slope this room is lower but still ground floor, it has a window and glass door.

Pool Info
The pool is located at the rear of the property on a lower level and is reached via a vine clad tunnel and steps down to the poolside. The pool is a large oval in shape and has internal steps. Sun loungers, tables and umbrellas furnish the paved surround which has fantastic views over the surrounding Tuscan countryside.
The pool measures twelve metres by six metres and has a depth of 120cm at the shallow end, increasing to a depth of 180cm at the deepest point. There is also an outside shower for guests use.
The pool is open from Easter to mid October
Nearest town
The thriving town of Gaiole in Chianti is only 4kms away from Valtellina, where there is a selection of shops, also a supermarket, pharmacy, bank a church and a choice of bars and restaurants.

What were the highlights of your stay? Rebecca at Tuscany Wine School in Siena provided a wonderful wine tour, picking us up and delivering us to our villa. Highly recommend that to your renters. Also her classes at the school in Siena.
What was your overall impression of the accommodation? The home was as advertised. It was absolutely wonderful. The bedrooms and bathrooms were spacious. There was hot water and plenty of it. With four persons in the house, we never felt cramped for space for us or our belongings. We cooked in every evening, and produced beautiful meals in the spacious and well provisioned kitchen. The site was gorgeous with a castle on a not distant hillside, the village of Reitine just above the villa, the vineyards surrounding the home being worked before our eyes.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us? No. The appliances worked; the linens were provided as stated. The property was clean. We did have difficulty with the directions. We followed them, and got so close. If we had been told that 50 feet from the house was a sign pointing to the house that said "Villa Certosa" we would have had confidence that we were at the right place. And the owner had a car parked at the home. So it looked like we were obviously at the wrong villa. The old sign needs to come down. And the renters need to be told that there is a car there, so they will not think that the house is already inhabited by others and that they are in the wrong place. The directions for the washer and dryer were very simple. But not detailed enough to operate the machines. The detergent compartment was divided into 3 parts. Which one did the detergent go into? Never figured that out. The wash cycle takes 3 hours or we did not push the right buttons. But the buttons and knobs were all symbols. A directory that explained what the symbols meant would have helped. Much frustration would have been alleviated by better instructions, written by someone who assumes an American has never seen those symbols before and is clueless about the functioning of the machine. "Turn the knob on the right and push the button on the left." Turn to what? Push which of 5 buttons on the left? ONce we got passed the washer and dryer, the home was lovely. The kitchen seemed very dark, particularly in the night when there is no additional outside light.
Do you have any other comments regarding the accommodation or service? We have already recommended your properties and service to others. We will certainly use your agency again for our Tuscany villa rentals. Americans are clueless about the train system. We did drive to Montevarchi and take the train to Florence. Giving some simple instructions to others to use trains for travel within Tuscany might also help those who are less adverturous.

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
