Approached along an avenue of cypress trees, Podere Ferale is an old stone house is set in a pretty garden with a wide lawn, overlooking an olive grove. Drop the suitcases by the front door andfollow the gravel path onwards to discover a large terrace for outdoor dining with spectacular views across the vineyard-laced landscape. Further along a sleek pool with sundeck offers another angle from which to gaze at the scene – in or out of the water.
Back at the house, steps lead up to the main entrance, which opens to reveal a living space large enough to accommodate the kitchen, lounge and a dining table that will seat your whole party of 10. The original fabric of this building – exposed stone, terracotta tiles, wooden beams – has been lovingly restored yet given a fresh new lease of life. So, the white walls are occasionally relieved by a splash of colour as bold as burnt orange, and a modish sofa will be complemented by a polished antique dresser.
A long, light-filled corridor leads to three luxurious double bedrooms, two of which can be converted to twins. The quality is evident from the flat-screen TVs to the high thread-count of the bed linen, and each comes with an en-suite shower room. Two more similarly styled en-suite double bedrooms, one that can also become a twin, are found downstairs, off a second large living space also designed for cooking, eating and relaxing.
