Torre di Volpaia, Volpaia - Radda in Chianti - Siena

3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms 6 people Without Pool 4 - Very good - Very good 4

Torre di Volpaia is a lovely Tuscan villa located in the heart of Volpaia, one of the most beautiful Chianti villages and only a short distance from Radda, a small but bustling town. It is part of an original watch tower which provides the villa with plenty of Tusan charm and character. In the quaint village there is an excellent restaurant with a lovely terrace overlooking the Chianti. Torre di Volpaia is to the back of the village is a quiet area.

The villa is divided into two suites, it is entered up some stone stairs and passing under a pretty loggia. Inside there is a small hall, off to the right there is access to the first of the suites. This has a simple semi-circle lounge which is located in the tower section. From here there is access to the loggia. It has a high roof, and tiny peephole windows. It's furnished with a double sofa and TV.

From here it is open into the kitchen up some steps. This room has a typical rustic Italian style kitchen and is fully equipped. It includes an oven, gas hobs, fridge with small internal freezer compartment. In the centre of the room is a lovely wooden table. There is access to a courtyard furnished with tables and chairs to dine al fresco. The courtyard is protected and overlooked by the two neighbouring villas. From here there is a lovely view of the Chianti hills.

Off the kitchen is a small corridor which leads to a small bathroom with shower. At the end of the corridor is a large double bedroom. This has a large bed with a lovely wooden headboard with a pretty design. Matching the headboard is a typical chest of drawers. Double wood and glass doors lead out to the courtyard.

From the entrance of Torre di Volpaia there are stone stairs to the left up to the first floor and second suite. On this floor is an open plan room with a small kitchenette against the far wall. This is well equipped and includes an oven, gas hobs and a small fridge with little internal freezer compartment. In the centre of the room is a wooden table with four chairs. On the opposite side is a traditional wooden sideboard. In one corner is a double sofa. The room has plenty of character provided by the original wooden ceiling, and a terracotta floor.

Passing under an arch to the back of the room is access to the large bathroom with shower, and a second double bedroom. This double room is made with two single beds so it can be converted into a twin, if required as a twin this must be requested when booking. Completing the furnishings of the room is a large wooden chest of drawers and wardrobe with mirror. The room has plenty of light from the two windows.

Terracotta stairs lead from the living area to the last floor. On this floor is the spacious twin bedroom. It has a beautiful pitched roof with wooden beams and terracotta tiles. In one corner is a light coloured wardrobe, to the other side are the two single beds with bright covers. The window looks out to the courtyard.

There is a little café and two restaurants in the village. Torre di Volpaia is to the back of the village so not disturbed by these.

A house keeper is available at all times should guests have any questions or problems during their stay.

Unique place being part of the medieval village which is Volpaia. Really feel as if you have gone right back in time. Three places to eat which are all excellent and contrasting. Other than the church and winery, there are no other facilities so need to stock up, although Radda is close by with good range of shops. Great position for Florence, Siena as well as venturing further south. Being so old, there are limited facilities in the tower eg no air con, WiFi (just pop down to the cafe!), and the electricity can easily overload. However, the experience of staying in this wonderful, evocative tower outweighed any of these. We would definitely return!

Thank you for your comments. There is no air conditioing or wifi listed at this property. The electricty in Italy can be less powerful when all devices are used together and can trip out.
