  • ​Tour of the walls

    Take a walk along the path around the stone city walls. There are plenty of view points to admire the countryside.

  • Market

    Every second Sunday of the month there is a market in the square Piazza delle Erbe. The market is held only from April through October.

  • Carnival

    The city hosts a fantastic carnival. Possibly the best in central Tuscany and worth seeing.

  • Granfondo della Vernaccia - cycling

    A road cycling race with several distances. To participate you will need a sports medical certificate and your national cycling registration card/number.
    Their website is only in Italian but has the routes. The tourist office can provide more information. The race has also started from the nearby town Colle Val d'Elsa, so check the information on their website.

  • Volterra - San Gimingano run

    Held at the beginning of September, a running race from Volterra to San Gimingano, 30km. You will need a sports medical certificate to participate. Info available from the tourist office.

  • San Gimignano Estate

    From June to October there is a series of plays, operas, ballet/dancing and concerts held in the Piazza del Duomo.

  • Sagra del buongustaio

    Held at the end of August and beginning of September, a food fair.

  • Calici sotto le Stelle

    10th August, the night of Saint Lawerence. In Piazza Sant'Agostino there are several places to do a wine tasting.

  • Degusta con noi

    On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons the tourist office organises a wine and local product tasting tour at a local vineyard. It starts in Piazza del Duomo from where they take you to a wine tasting with some typical snacks such as bruschetta and prosciutto or pecorino cheese. The tour must be prebooked in the tourist office which is in Piazza del Duomo.

  • Festivals and Events


    Ferie delle Messi
    Held in June. A medieval festival held in the streets of San Gimignano. There is a market with local products, displays of medieval arts and crafts, musicians. On the Sunday afternoon there is a parade and tournament.

  • Festa di Santa Fina

    Held the first Sunday of August. A celebration for the patron saint of San Gimignano is held in the Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta. On the Monday there are stalls and various stands in the Piazza del Duomo and Piazza della Cisterna.

  • Festa della Madonna di Pancole

    Held at the beginning of September in the village Pancole, 6km from San Gimignano. Food stalls and a fireworks display.
