Villa il Contento, Castelfranco Piandiscò - Arezzo and Cortona

This smart villa is a place where you can revel in the beauty of your surroundings, yet know you are just a short walk or an easy drive from lively communities and great cities. Set in the Valdarno, the valley of the river Arno, the villa is barely 2km from the village of Castelfranco di Sopra, with its shops and restaurants. (The value reflected in your bill for dinner will tell you this is authentic Tuscany.) It’s also a short hop by road to Florence and Arezzo and a gateway to a swathe of protected forest, which the walkers among you won’t be able to resist stepping out in.

Villa Il Contento is totally private, even though its owners are your neighbours, because it’s oriented on the back garden with sublime views of the mountains beyond. The house is light and bright, with a tasteful mix of traditional and modern styles, such as the striking contrast of the glass banisters on the stairs and the tiled floors and beamed ceilings.

It's a comfy and spacious place to spend time with the family or group of friends. Inside it has a well-equipped kitchen, large enough for a table that will seat your whole party, and two living rooms, connected by an open arch. One is a relaxing space with sofas, the other a place where you might enjoy a game of chess or browse your laptop at the desk.

Off the living area are two double bedrooms, and a shower room. The villa’s most luxurious bathroom is only a few steps away, just off the hall, with a sunken Jacuzzi bath to wallow in. Climb the stairs from the living area to find the third bedroom and shower room. It comes with a separate dressing room, and a small outdoor terrace, making it, in effect, a private suite.

The airy feel is thanks to the large windows and patio doors in the kitchen, which lead to a huge, covered verandah with a long table – this used to be a restaurant. We suspect you’ll spend most of your time out here, dipping in and out of the cool waters by day and gazing at those views of the mountains in the evening, as the sun goes down.
