Villa Montisi, San Giovanni d'Asso - Siena

3 bedrooms 3 bathrooms 6 people Private Pool 3,5 - Good - Good 3,5

Stone-built and topped with a typical terracotta-tiled roof, Villa Montisi is every inch the Tuscan idyll. An attractive single-storey villa in the north corner of the hamlet of Podere Ampella, this is a good choice for a family - and the three bedrooms mean it can accommodate grandparents, too. Step inside and you are instantly acquainted with classic Tuscan features such as exposed beams and terracotta tiles. There is a spacious lounge, while bedrooms are also quintessentially Tuscan in design - perhaps the best pick is the third bedroom, with its wood-and-glass double doors that let the warm Tuscan light flood in. Furnished with wrought-iron beds and elegant headboards, and featuring exposed beams and a calming pastel decor, the other two bedrooms will not disappoint either.

From the living area, step outside through one of two sets of double doors and onto a delightful terrace that hugs the whole length of the back of the villa. This is a lovely spot for al-fresco dining - perhaps after a refreshing late-afternoon dip in your private pool, which lies just a few steps away. From every part of the villa and grounds there are views, while the pool also offers endless vistas of fields and rolling hills.

Our thoughts
Villa Montisi is a delightful property offering plenty of space for a family seeking a classic Tuscan base for a memorable holiday. We love the discreet touches, such as the flower tubs, that give the property a homely feel. Communal areas are comfortably furnished while other rustic elements include a brick archway that opens into the impressive kitchen-diner. Above all, it'll be the unobstructed far-reaching views - best in the shimmering haze created by the Tuscan sun - that will hold your attention.

Three bedrooms. Three bathrooms, two en-suite. One double bedroom cannot convert into a twin.

The pool, just a few steps from the house, is surrounded by a paved terrace that is furnished with sun beds, chairs, parasols and a cabana, leading to lawn with views across the countryside to the village of Montisi. The water is entered via metal ladder steps at one end. Pool size: 8m x 4m, 1.5m deep, open May to September, weather permitting.

There are two towns approximately, Montisi 2km away and San Giovanni d’Asso 4km away. Montisi which can be seen from some parts of the hamlet is a charming small town with a historic grain tower.  Here you will find a selection of shops, banks, pharmacy etc.  The town is host to an annual jousting contest ‘Giostra di Simone’ held in August each year.
The second and much larger town is San Giovanni D’Asso.  The streets of this medieval town surround a twelfth century castle.  Here there is a much larger selection of shops, banks, supermarkets, bars and restaurants.  The town also has Italy’s only truffle museum.
