Terrazza Alta at Borgo Gaiole

Terrazza Alta is a large villa at the top of the hamlet Borgo Gaiole. It is reached by several flights of terracotta steps through the pretty hamlet. The entrance to this pretty and homely villa is from a small, well maintained courtyard.
Inside is a bright open plan room, with lounge and kitchen/diner. Immediately on entering is the comfortable lounge which has three armchairs and a double sofa. There is a stereo with a collection of CDs available. In one corner is a TV. The floor is tiled with polished terracotta, while the ceiling is typical Tuscan with wooden beams and terracotta tiles.
Passing under a terracotta arch there is the dining table which seats six people. Next to this is a
large, well equipped sideboard. To the back of this part of the room is a fitted kitchen with an
oven, electric hobs, dishwasher and a fridge with separate freezer. In the living area it's possible
to hear a slight hum from the town activities.
Off the lounge is a small hall from where there is access to the first of the three double bedrooms. This room is furnished in pale colours. It has a double wardrobe. The window is a high oval shaped window. A bathroom with shower is also accessed from the hall. There is also a door which leads out to a private courtyard.
To the back of the kitchen is a small room with an irregular shape. It's furnished with sturdy iron
bunkbeds. There is a chest of drawers and wardrobe in the room. The large window looks out to the
main courtyard. It's an ideal room for children, not recommended for adults.
Off the kitchen is access to a small hall. Directly off this is a bathroom with tub with shower fixture. And there is access to the internal courtyard. The hall continues on passing iron stairs with marble steps, to the second double bedroom, which is an irregular triangular shape. The room is tastefully done in red colours with a pale coloured wardrobe and chest of drawers. In one corner is an armchair.
The stairs are protected both at the bottom and top by little gates. They are quite narrow and steep.
Upstairs is the main suite. It has a small lounge furnished with two armchairs and a writing desk.
This leads out to a balcony with table and chairs. It has a fantastic view over the roof tops, onto
Gaiole and then across the Chianti hills.
To the other side of the stairs is a small hall which has a door leading out of the villa to the communal areas of this pretty Tuscan hamlet. Also off the hall is a bathroom with shower, and a large double bedroom. There is a double wardrobe and a large chest of drawers. Two windows provide the room with plenty of light.
On the lower floor of Terrazza Alta there is the small internal courtyard. One side is open to a hamlet path. This is accessed by an iron gate. Crossing the path and passing through another iron gate there is access to the villa garden. This is on two levels. It is perfectly maintained with lovely lawns and pretty plants. Going up to the upper level there is a table with 6 chairs, shaded by a lovely pergola. All around the garden there are other apartments.
There are three covered parking places allocated to Terrazza Alta.

Throughout the villa are heating/cooling units. These can only be turned on when the local law allows it, which depends on the weather. Should you require them please check with the hamlet manager if they are on. The cost of their use is charged extra.

Terrazza Alta at Borgo Gaiole

Borgo Gaiole is a large hamlet with 40 villas, well laid out, over looking the Chianti town of Gaiole. It's a short walk into the pretty town centre where there several typical cafés.
The property is built on sloped land with a covered car park at the lower level. From here there are
steps or a lift to the central courtyard, these continue up to the pool area. The pool area has full
sun and is a pretty spot to enjoy the views of the surrounding Chianti over the roof tops of Gaiole.
This new hamlet has been built in true Tuscan style with plenty of terracotta and stone. The communal paths and courtyards are dotted with flower pots and constantly maintained by the caretaker.
Pool Info
The large pool is of an irregular shape, similar to a half moon. It's surrounded by a lovely deck
dotted with several sun-beds and three large umbrellas providing shade. In the centre of the pool are
two large columns supporting a balcony.
The area is surrounded by various villas, which look onto the pool. From the pool there are pretty views over the roof tops onto Gaiole and the Chianti hills beyond the town. There is a small gym with showers available for guests and residents to use.
The pool is 27x9 metres and 1.3 metres deep. It is open from Easter to October depending on the weather conditions.

Nearest town
The nearest town is Gaiole in Chianti where there is a selection of shops, restaurants and other amenities. The villa is in the town about 500 meters from the closest shop.

If we have to find anything to not like about the place (difficult!) ...there was an electrical hum at night next to our bed and the mattress was harder than we were used to! ... all easily tolerable.
An electric kettle would have been appreciated too!
We loved the ancient hamlet of Vertine nearby, which had I think inspired the architect of Borgo Gaiole.
The young adults enjoyed the Whisky a GoGo, in the main village!

Poolbereich: nur 2 Sonnenschirme und die waren defekt
in der Anlage sind Familien mit kleinen Kindern eher nicht erwünscht, dass wurde uns sehr deutlich gemacht, weshalb ich dieses Objekt keinesfalls für Familien mit kleinen Kindern empfehlen kann
Schlüsselübergabe, Check in und sonstige Probleme waren aufgrund von fehlenden Englischkenntnissen der Hausverwaltung schwierig zu lösen, obwohl ausdrücklich erwähnt wurde, dass Englisch und Italienisch gesprochen wird. Die zuständige Frau der Verwaltung, welche Englisch sprach war leider sehr selten anwesend

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
