Castello di Brolio, Podere il Palazzino, Agricola Matteoli are just three of the 7,000-plus vineyards on your doorstep just waiting to show off their wines to you. There's more to explore, too, with the medieval city of Siena and Renaissance Florence close by. And if you time your visit for the annual Eroica cycle race – you’re on the circuit here – you can cheer on the competitors. If that tempts you to get on two wheels, hire an e-bike in nearby Gaiole – it’s hilly round here

When it’s time to just relax, you’ll realise what a great choice of villa you’ve made. Inside, this small yet perfectly formed detached stone house has a large room for cooking, dining and relaxing, and a similarly generous double bedroom with an ensuite dressing area and shower room. It looks great, too, mixing Tuscan tradition, with beamed and tiled ceilings and terracotta floors, and modern flair, with colourful contemporary furnishings.

Doors from both rooms lead to a large terrace, split between a shaded area for dining and a suntrap supplied with deckchairs, which overlooks a large garden with a huge pool. Once shared with a B&B, it’s now all yours. Another treat to look forward to at this very special rural retreat.

Arrivals are possible on any available day at Campo al Sole except for Saturday.
