Casa Primula is situated in the castle hamlet of Vertine and comprises of two independent villas which are a short distance from each other. The main house which is close to the pool and a converted wine cellar which is approximately 100 meters away.
Close to the main house is the well maintained sparkling pool and gardens. From here there are wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Next to the pool is an open air shower with a second shower and bathroom attached to the right hand side of the house. The separate converted wine cellar boasts its own private Jacuzzi for 6 people on the raised terrace.

There are several terraces available for guests to relax and enjoy the warm Tuscan sunshine. The main house has a terrace at the rear of the property and a covered terrace at the front near the pool. A third raised terrace with Jacuzzi is available which overlooks the main house and grounds. All the terraces are furnished with tables, chairs and parasols.
The first of the two separate accommodations is a  comfortable and characteristic Tuscan villa with Jacuzzi located  approximately 100 metres from the main house.  Originally an old wine cellar, it still has its high vaulted ceilings made of stone with alcoves set in the walls. The floors are paved with traditional terracotta tiles throughout.
Inside the villa is an open plan lounge, diner and kitchen. Plenty of light enters the room from the glass main door with a window above. The lounge is furnished with a double sofa, small table, wooden cabinet and a television. Immediately to the left of the main entrance is a bathroom with shower.
At the back of the room is the kitchen and dining area. The kitchen offers plenty of workspace. There is an oven with gas hobs, washing machine and a small fridge with internal freezer compartment. To one side is a wooden dining table with seating for six.
To the right of the lounge is a double bedroom. This room also has a high stone vaulted ceiling and the original rough stone wall at one end. It is furnished with an iron double bed, chest of drawers with mirror, double wardrobe and a single armchair. Plenty of light enters the room from the single window.
Close to the pool is the main house which is a spacious first floor villa that comprises of  two  separate apartments, there is an interconnecting door between the two apartments. Stone steps lead down to the two entrances either side of the main house.
Access to the villa is via either entrance, both of which open into one of the two open plan lounge, kitchen and diners. These rooms are both furnished with a simple double sofa and dining table with seating for four. There are small  televisions with satellite mounted on the walls.
The corner kitchens both have gas hobs, microwave, washing machine and a small fridge with internal freezer compartment.
The two double bedrooms which are accessed from the lounge areas are bright and airy rooms. Each room is furnished with a chest of drawers, wardrobe and an iron double bed. The windows in both bedrooms offer beautiful views and overlook the pool below. There are two bathrooms with shower cubicles off both lounge areas.
Below the living quarters of the main house on the ground floor is a lounge, kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is furnished with an oven, gas hobs, and small fridge with internal freezer compartment. There is also an extendable dining table with chairs for six people. The lounge area includes a double sofa and television with DVD and CD player. Next door is a bathroom with shower.

Casa Primula comprises of the main cottage and a separate apartment 100 metres away.

Plaats BBQ-s onhandig. Nadenken over andere oplossing.

The outside BBQ is in a panoramic position 40 metres from the main dining area so fumes are kept away from the property.

Pros The location. The private pool. The serenity of Vertine and the close proximity (3km) to Gaiole and the local shops..
Cons I was disappointed that our family of 5 persons (Me, my wife, my adult son, my adult daughter and my 10 year old granddaughter) had to be split for sleeping purposes, with my wife and myself occupying the apartment at the top of the street in Vertine. Quite a 'stretch' for two middle aged persons to walk to each night! The facilities offered at the villa, whilst looking excellent, are not really 'user friendly'. The jacuzzi is not conveniently located for the villa. The BBQ on the jacuzzi terrace is again not used because its not convenient. The main BBQ on the second grassed terrace is not convenient as it is away from the pool side kitchen where food is prepared and ultimately served. It looks good though, we used it twice, but it was hassle. The main poolside kitchen has been refurbished to a very high standard, as has everything in the villa...but can't help thinking it's all been done for show and not practicability. The new pizza oven and indoor grill/BBQ in the kitchen will, I suspect, never be used. In such a confined space the heat from the pizza oven (over 400 degrees) would be intolerable and pose a considerable risk...but it looks good. It looks and feels more like a private hotel. But it is still a fabulous place to stay for a week/fortnight. The views over the Tuscan countryside are priceless.
Local attractions The restaurant Il Papavero in Barbischio, about 7 km from the villa, is fabulous. We eat there twice during this visit and both times the food was the best I have ever eaten on all my many visits to Tuscany and Chianti. It wasn't the cheapest, but well worth the money to taste fresh Italian Tuscan food, prepared and served to perfection. It well deserves the 9.5 rating out of 10 from 424 reviews it has got on Trip Advisor. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Pros Everything about this place was immaculate, from the manicured gardens to the spacious apartments (perfect for a group of adults like ourselves, who wanted to holiday together but maintain some independence). Beautiful views and peace and quiet - just what we wanted - and all topped off with Kate's apricot tart!
Local attractions We did a couple of local walks through the woods and vineyards - and barely saw another soul. Just a word of warning - Vertine is on a hill, so there is a lot of walking up and down! We enjoyed the bar in the hamlet, and visited quite an array of restaurants in Gaiole. The Castello di Spalltena on the way into Gaiole is amazing, if quite pricey.
