This two-storey villa stands out from the crowd, with its red exterior and green shutters. It’s in an enviable location, too, just a few miles from Lucca, in a peaceful suburb with its own bar and shops. You’ll find this a comfortable and spacious place to stay, good for three couples who want a bit of life on the doorstep. Pisa, Florence and the coastal resort of Viareggio are all within reach for day trips, too.

This house is about taking it easy. Set in a large, private garden, with olive trees for shade, not only is there a sizeable private pool, but it has a covered Jacuzzi and sauna, too. The enclosed terrace, with floor-to-ceiling glass, is a good place to relax and take in the splendid views of the garden. Furnished for dining, on chillier nights it’s an alternative to the terrace that spans the length of the villa. The roomy interior, with its two adjoining, open-plan lounges is cosy and traditional, featuring terracotta and wooden floors, dressed with warming rugs for maximum comfort. And interesting pieces of furniture and art add to the stylish feel.

Casa Rocchi with its vibrant exterior and gorgeous gardens, shouts style. There are several restaurants in the area however the owners recommend La Mora in the town Ponte a Moriano (6km) and Butterfly in Via del Brennero in Lucca.
