Casa Silvia is a small cottage attached to several other properties in little typical Tuscan hamlet of local residents called Valigondoli. On the other side of the hamlet there is a restaurant. The front of the cottage looks out onto a wonderful view of the Tuscan hills and valleys.
Crossing a gravel path in front of the villa there is a stone paved terrace which leads down several steps to a second terrace with a large barbeque, and furnished with table with chairs to dine al fresco, and an umbrella with sun-beds. On a lower level is the irregular shaped, prefabricated pool which is surrounded by a large wooden sun deck. There are fantastic views from this area.
Entering the villa Casa Silvia there is an open plan room with a white wooden ceiling and windows looking out to the views to the front of the villa. To one side of the room is a large fireplace, ideal for the cooler nights. Next to this are two wooden armchairs. In the centre of the room is a wooden table with four chairs.

Passing under an arch there is the small kitchen which is well equipped, and includes gas hobs, oven, fridge with separate freezer and dishwasher.
To the other side of the room is a double bedroom which can be set up as a twin, this must be requested when booking. The room has a large wardrobe and a window that provides plenty of light. It looks out to the front of the villa and the views beyond.
From the back of the lounge there are a few steps up into a corridor. Off this is a bedroom with a double metal bed, painted in a lovely green colour. In the room is a large wardrobe with mirrors and a wooden chest of drawers. The window opens up onto an internal courtyard surrounded by other houses. At the end of the hall is a small laundry and a bathroom with shower.

Casa Silvia is a simple villa with wonderful views.
Please indicate on booking if you require a twin bedroom set up.
Pets are not allowed.

Free Internet Wi-Fi for one device.

Pool Info

Below the furnished terrace for dining al fresco there is the pool. It is located in a sunny corner of the property with a fantastic view of the Tuscan countryside over the olive trees and forest that surround Valigondoli. This is a great area from which to enjoy the Tuscan sunsets with a glass of Chianti.
The pool is an above ground, prefabricated pool. Around it is a lovely, large wooden sun deck. Surrounding the pool is a lovely, typical Tuscan olive grove on sloped grounds.
The pool is an irregular shape of 9.2x6 metres and 1.4 metres deep. It's open from May to October, weather permitting.

Pros We loved the feeling of tranquility and solitude even though within the small hamlet. The sunsets were stunning as was the incredible 3am electrical storm! The accomodation was extremely clean and thoughtfully presented. Just enough of everything to feel relaxed. Mercatile only 10 mins away to get provisions ( reasonable sized CO-OP)
The different heights of the seating/pool areas gave the sense of wonderful space. Above all such a friendly welcome from Samuele and his family - it felt a privilege to stay there and look after the place...many thanks for a wonderful stay in September 2014 Ciao!!
Cons Not much really - a little noise on occasion from the adjoining residence - but not an issue. Bring plenty of insect repellent!
Local attractions The small Pordo restaurant provides well cooked food (30 second walk) behind property. Florence only 45 mins away - and is stunning, Pisa approx 1 hour's driven as is Sienna the other way. If going to Florence - go via Impruneta and Pozzolatico for a less stressful drive, and very beautiful one too!

Pros Very good location in the heart of the Chianti region, a cosy and character filled cottage, interesting multi level layout of the facilities, nice big pool with stunning deck and views, and a friendly trattoria only a stone's throw away!
Cons No comfy couch in the lounge although the evenings were balmy so we mostly had our dinner al fresco

Pros The cottage is tidy and compact, but it's appeal is in what lies outside. The facility is first class, the view stunning, and the pool welcoming on a hot day. The occasional deer wandered into the grounds, while buzzards float overhead. A car is definitely needed, but the remoteness of the location is part of the attraction. Local towns and villages are no more than a 15 minute drive away, and the bigger cities of Florence and Siena are little more than an hour away. Samuel is a very friendly owner (a Fiorentina fan) who is more than happy to answer any queries - despite our poor grasp of Italian!
Cons We had to come home.
Local attractions Trattoria da Pordo is only a 30 second walk away and therefore a very inviting option. The food is good (we ate there three times), and the local Chianti (Solatione) is highly recommended. Greve-on-Chianti is full of character with plenty of good eating spots, while in Panzano we found that Il Vescovino was a good choice for a special meal - ask for a balcony table that overlooks a typical Tuscan view.

Pros Very quiet, outstanding views across hills and valleys, fantastically setup for self catering, with well equipped kitchen, lovely covered area outside for eating etc, plus great terrace to drink and watch sunsets, the pool area is large, and lots of gardens to watch wildlife including fireflies. There is a restaurant approx 50 yards away too.
Cons Nothing. The weather was not great during our stay, lots of thunderstorms but it was good to sit in the outside covered area and watch them roll past.
Local attractions San Gimignano approx 45 minute drive, also Certaldo alto, similar distance.and Colle di Val d'Elsa. Favourite restaurant Cum Quibus in San Gimignano, excellent beyond words.

Pros You couldn't hope to meet a friendlier are more helpful host that the owner Samuelle and his friends.
The garden, pool and outside area was fantastic.
The cottage was very well equipped.
The location was very good. We enjoyed the peaceful setting and local restaurant.
Cons Nothing
Local attractions The closest restaurant is a 30 second walk. This had great food and location. Panzano and Greive make for very nice and very close places to visit for afternoon ice creams and shopping.

Aanrader.

Pros We loved the privacy of being somewhere not surrounded by other holiday makers and just being able to enjoy the stunning location alongside the local residents. The setting is beautiful and so quiet, and then when we did fancy a change the nearest town is only 15 mins drive and Florence only 45mins away.

We couldn't fault it in any way; a perfect cottage, private pool and garden surrounded by the most tranquil countryside.

Wonderful place.
Cons Nothing, it was perfect.
Local attractions We only realised about the restaurant on the same road on the last day, but that would have been great to go to more. Greve in Chianti was our main place to buy food during the week. Florence was beautiful for a day trip. We went for the evening and happened upon an outdoor concert. We'll visit the Uffizi gallery next time.

Pros The location was fantastic, 10 minute drive to Greve, 30/40 minute drive to Florence. Situated in the Chianti hills, the view was breathtaking. The swimming pool was large and the outside area had space in abundance. The kitchen was very well equipped, bedrooms a good size. Living area may be a touch small for four people but the facilities outside more than made up for it as you would seldom spend time indoors when the sun is out and you have the pool / barbeque at your disposal. The owner was extremely welcoming and hospitable. He gave recommendations in terms of trip itinerary that worked out fantastically. I unequivocally recommend staying at Casa Silvia, value for money for such a great property.
Cons Nothing.

Pros the location was absolutely fantastic! the vast amount of outdoor dining and pool space really allowed you to enjoy the fantastic view, which you had all to yourself. The outdoor space was gorgeous and brand-new. Inside, the villa was exactly as we imagined - the pictures on the website are very accurate! Although it wasn't large, it was more than sufficient for 4 adults, and you spend most of your time enjoying the outside. The owner Sam was so lovely - he advised us on driving, the best home-grown fruit to eat from the villa's garden and he even bought us ice cream and beers one hot afternoon! He produces his own olive oil from the olive groves at Casa Silvia and there is a plentiful supply in the kitchen to be used by guests. Overall, I would thoroughly recommend Casa Silvia to any family with older children, or 4 adults; the peace and serenity, the fabulous views and location make it an ideal retreat and base for exploring the Chianti region of Tuscany.
Cons Nothing! Perhaps maybe the villa was a little small, but this is reflected in the value for money. The vast outside space more than makes up for a snug interior; but we never found any of this to ever be a problem
Local attractions Attractions - we thoroughly enjoyed San Gimignano and Volterra - 2 very famous Tuscan towns, within an hour's drive of the villa. We also did a day trip to Siena which was gorgeous.

Nearest town

The villa is in a little hamlet where there is a restaurant, Trattoria Da Pordo, located at the opposite side. Mercatale is the nearest town with shops, restaurants and other amenities. It's approximately 6km away. Greve in Chianti, is a larger town with more choice, it is about 7km away on an unpaved road.
