Il Colle di Sotto is an attractive villa situated at the top of a hillside with panoramic views over the valley below. Surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, yet only 3km from the FI-PI-LI highway. The town of Montelupo Fiorentino famed for its ceramic production is only 3km away. Also the cities of Florence at 15km and Pisa at 45km are also within easy reach.
There is a beautiful infinity swimming pool a few metres away from the villa with steps and a path leading down to it. The pool has a hydro massage section in one corner and internal steps lead down into the main pool. The area around the pool is paved and is furnished with sun loungers and chairs. There is a covered gazebo providing welcome shade from the heat of the day.
The front door to this split level villa opens directly into the kitchen with its terracotta tiled floors and traditional high beamed and tiled ceiling. The feature arched window above the entrance door allows light to flood into the building giving a spacious airy feel to the property.
The well equipped kitchen has an oven with gas hobs, a microwave oven, dishwasher, fridge with freezer section and a washing machine. There are mosquito screens in the kitchen and dining area.
To the left hand side of the kitchen a door leads into bedroom one. This room has terracotta tiled flooring and a beamed and tiled ceiling. There is a double bed with iron bed frame, a large wardrobe and ensuite bathroom with shower.
To the right of the stairs, steps lead down to the second bedroom with a bathroom with shower next door. The bedroom has a double bed with wrought iron bed frame and an exposed brickwork feature wall. Clever treatment of the area under the stairs has made the most of the space for storage. Double French doors open out to the rear of the property with fantastic views over the countryside.
A tiled staircase with iron handrail leads from the kitchen up to the lounge area. This is a comfortably furnished area with sofas, one of which is a double sofabed arranged around the large feature open fireplace.
There is a TV with some satellite channels, a DVD player and CD system.
Outside there is a terrace area, furnished with dining table and chairs. There is a very large sunshade which can be opened as required when dining 'al fresco'.
To the left of the property is a covered parking area for two cars. The nearest railway station is Montelupo Fiorentino (about 5 km away) which is well connected to Pisa, Siena and Florence.
Small pets are welcome to stay at Colle di Sotto. If you wish to bring a pet, please contact us with the type of animal, how many and its breed BEFORE a booking is made. Dogs must be kept on a leash (the garden is unfenced) and are allowed to all the public areas with the strict exception of the swimming pool area. Owners are reminded that it is their responsibility to maintain the good condition of the house and gardens when they bring a pet with them. An extra charge must be paid directly on arrival.
A lovely villa ideal for families. A cot and a highchair are available at the property. Ask for them when booking.
There are ceiling fans in both bedrooms and in the mezzanine floor.

The pool measures 10.5 metres by 7.5 metres. The massage zone is 2 metres in diameter. At the shallowest end the depth is 1.2 metres increasing to 1.4 metres. The pool is open from the middle of May until the end of September. The pool can be lit at night. Pool towels are provided.
Nearest town
The nearest town is Montelupo Fiorentino which is 3km from the villa. Here you will find a choice of restaurants, supermarket, grocers, bank, pharmacy and a post office. The town of Montelupo Fiorentino is famous for its high quality painted ceramics. Every year around the 22nd to the 30th June (please check dates beforehand) there is a ceramics festival with the town's inhabitants dressing in period costume. The Castle of Montelupo is the remains of a castle on top of a hill overlooking the town, The Palazzo Pretorio at the foot of the castle houses the ceramics museum inside there are also some 15th century frescoes. The Frescobaldi tower of Montelupo was originally built to control the river traffic and now houses a museum.

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
