Immerse yourself in Tuscan culture at this charming bolthole for two just outside the village of Ciggiano. Here life continues as it has for centuries, dictated by the seasonal progress of the olives and grapes ripening in the fields. But just like the local farmers, you can take full of advantage of the location. While this may feel like a pleasant backwater, it offers easy links to the Arezzo, once a capital of the ancient Etruscans, as well as Siena and Florence. There is much to explore closer to home, too, including the thermal baths at Rapolano Terme for an original take on a spa day.

This quaint stone villa, surrounded by a garden, is the perfect choice for a couple, with its large living space, bedroom and shower room. The traditional tiled and beamed ceilings, terracotta floors and old stone hearth keep the atmosphere authentically Tuscan, while the country cottage-style fabrics and wooden furnishings add a luxurious rustic touch.

There’s a table for two inside, but we suspect you’ll enjoy most meals on the shady outdoor terrace. It’s just one of the spots in which to relax in the generous grounds. There’s a covered pergola, also set for dining, and a sundeck supplied with comfy loungers. Plus the clear blue waters of the huge pool are all yours for a refreshing dip. Wherever you choose to relax, you'll also enjoy views to the distant hills, a visual reminder of all the places waiting to be explored.

The friendly owner's family lives in the villa opposite and is happy to help. They'll also use the pool while respecting your privacy.
