One of Italy's national monuments Montefienali emerged in the middle of the 13th Century as a remote staging post on an ancient Roman road into the Chianti. After a two-year restoration project Montefienali is once more the ideal place for rest and recuperation for both body and mind and an ideal get away from it all.

Montefienali high point is the perfect place for its twin swimming pools. There is a 15 mtrs x 7.5 mtrs pool and a small children’s swimming pool 1 mtr deep - pools are open from April to October. Sun beds and umbrellas furnish the surrounding garden and terraces to provide a great place for basking in the sun while taking in the stunning vista of the hamlet and hilltop villages beyond.

A selection of accommodation of individual cottages in an isolated location with terracotta floors, beamed ceilings and traditional-style furniture, creating an appealingly traditional ambience that offers a private terrace/garden to enjoy the Tuscan hills while sun bathing or dining outdoors.
Every Sunday during July and August there is music and dancing at Monteluco, which is 4km away from Montefienali.

Pros Very secluded and relaxing. Good sunset through the windows at the back. Spacious. Plenty of storage space. Good patio outside which was sunny in the morning. Good selection of books. Good directions to the villa.
Cons There were a lot of wasps about in the patio area and around the swimming pool which meant it wasn't too relaxing to stay out a long time. Not many kitchen utilities (no cooker). Advert claims "sunny from sun rise to sun set", but wasn't really true for the patio which only had sun till early afternoon. Check in wasn't very throrough as another customer was complaining so we were just given our keys. Booklet about the local area in the villa was from somewhere else so it was confusing on arrival. Villa location was very remote which made it hard to go to restaurants in the evening. Driveway in was onerous, but this was explained to us before we booked.
Local attractions Starda served excellent local food. Loved San Gimigano, Panzano market on a Sunday, Radda, Brolio castle
To Tuscany team comments for this review:

28.09.2013
The description is updated to note the shady terrace in the afternoon, there is a microwave/grill oven, the kitchen equipment also includes a bread maker, the house manager returned and visited the guests on Monday to complete the check in, the in house booklet covers the area instead of being specific per villa.

What were the highlights of your stay?    The countryside was beautiful
The food at local restaurants was very good
The walking was very plesant.
What was your overall impression of the accommodation?    We stayed at Nonna C in Montifinali
the Accommodation was clean and tidy
The metall stairs and the mezanine area in Nonna C at Montifinali were not used by us but were potentially dangerous for children.

Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us? We had no electriciy on returning one evening.
There was no information in the book about fuse boxes.
Fortunately one of the neighbours told us about the fuses which were near the internet station.
Do you have any other comments regarding the accommodation or service? The bed room was clean with a good comfortable bed.
The kitchen was good but we did not have any food to cook.
it was not clear what we should do with the key when we left.
The information book in the property was good in parts but could have been clearer.
It would have been good if we had got in advance 1:50000 scale maps of the area.
We did buy a map in Florence but it was not very good

Thank you for your comments regarding the stairs to the mezzanine area - we state the following on the website with regards to the stairs - "The stairs are very steep, this attic style room has ceiling heights from 1.20 mtr to 1.80 mtr, the stairs and room are not suitable for young children or the elderly"
