Oliveta
Location address: Località Rietine - Gaiole in Chianti
Set in a wonderful location nestling in the Tuscan hillside, surrounded by olive groves and wonderful views. Villa Oliveta is only 4km from Gaiole in Chianti and ideally situated for day trips to Florence, Pisa, Bologna and Rome. Oliveta is attached to a neighbouring property and part of a traditional Italian cluster of dwellings, however the pool and gardens are private to you.

The pool is situated at the rear of the property surrounded by olive trees, Mediterranean shrubs and hedging. The pool has a paved surround where there are plenty of tables, umbrellas and sun loungers to relax in. From poolside you have a fantastic view of the rolling wooded hillsides all around.

At the front of the house there is a small private garden with a wide footpath leading to a small flight of stone steps up to the front door.

The front door opens into a large hallway from which all the ground floor rooms lead off. Immediately on the left is the ground floor bedroom which has a double bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers and views over the front garden. The ensuite bathroom with shower is in the far right hand corner.

Directly ahead as you enter the house is the lounge/kitchen/diner which has an open fireplace, comfortable sofa and a wooden dining table with six chairs. Along one wall are fitted units with a built in oven with gas hobs, fridge, washing machine, microwave oven and a TV with some satellite channels.

A set of double doors open onto the rear garden area.  In the far left hand corner of the kitchen a flight of stairs take you up to the first floor.

The first floor landing area has doors to both the remaining two bedrooms, and a bathroom with shower, basin and WC. The first bedroom has two large windows which allow light to flood the room. This room has matching twin beds which can be pushed together to make a double bed if required. There is also a day bed which can be used as an extra bed or a sofa, as needed and a large wooden wardrobe and chest of drawers.

The second bedroom is the master bedroom which has the traditional Tuscan terracotta tiled floor with tiled and beamed ceiling. There is a wooden double bed with matching wardrobe and chest of drawers. There is also a writing desk and chair as well as an armchair. The ensuite bathroom has a shower, basin and WC.

Outside, split level stairs from the kitchen area take you down into the garden. The garden areas are mainly laid to lawn with mature trees and shrubs, with large brightly planted terracotta pots dotted throughout. There is also a barbeque and a covered gazebo with dining table and chairs, which is ideal for dining ‘al fresco’ or sitting with a glass of wine watching the stars.

Set in an ideal location for visiting the sights of Tuscany such as Florence and Siena as well as discovering its smaller towns and villages.

There is also a barbeque and a covered gazebo with dining table and chairs.

Pros What we loved about Oliveta in the first place was the fact that it’s a typically Tuscan house made of stone with a great atmosphere and some lovely furnishing. The views from the house over the Chianti region are simply breathtaking and it’s also a great starting point for trips to towns such as Sienna or San Giminiano. As a bonus we had a great comapanion - Wilson, the owners' kitten.
Cons As the house is located in a hilly region, the road leading to it is very twisty. This once more ensures some nice views, but it’s not very comfortable, especially for people suffering from motion sickness. The house is a part of terraced houses with a common yard, which might be treated as a disadvantage – you have your neighbours very close, which isn’t very convenient if you’d like to throw a party.
Local attractions Great restaurant in Volpaia - La Bottega di Volpaia; Chianti Expo in Greve in Chianti (September); many small villages in the region

Pros Accueil parfait.

Pros The location and the stunning views are truly something to talk about. What a delightful place, It was so lovely and peaceful I will definitely return. We wanted to be far away from our hectic lives in London and it was just perfect. The villa was clean well equipped and we could not be any happier.

Was waren die Highlights Ihres Urlaubs? Ruhe!!
Wie war Ihr Gesamteindruck von der Unterbringung? Gut.

What were the highlights of your holiday? going into the little towns, seeing the markets, the view from our lawn and pool was astounding,
What was your overall impression of the accommodation?    It was pretty accurate with the description and pictures on the website, very thoughtful and kind owners. washing supplies etc... were left for us. We were in the heart of wine country, and they gave us a complimentary bottle as well.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us? It was cool and rainy the first few days (even in June!), the blankets on the beds were dismal, thin sheets and we were cold. We did ask for wood and made many fires in the kitchen in the evenings which warmed the place.
Do you have any other comments regarding the accommodation or service? .

What were the highlights of your holiday? Taking trips to Gaiole for pizza, going to Montevarchi for shopping and catching the train to Florence.
what was your overall impression of the accommodation?    The villa was gorgeous and the owners were lovely. The villa had a lovely feel to it. It was perfectly clean and all of the fixtures and fitting were high quality (I couldn't believe the wine glasses were even so beautiful). The scenery around the villa was picture perfect. The owners gave us wonderful recommendations on everything from restaurants to catching the train to florence.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises? The weather was colder than expected in Tuscany (APRIL 2010), and the villas heating really didn't keep us warm. The idea of having to watch the heating bill everyday as gas is extremely expensive was painful....we rationed the heater and ended freezing in the villa. We didn't get to use the wood fire...maybe an electrical heater would be more economical (even if was a fixed priced for the extra electricity). I believe every villa works on the meter for heating, so it's not just this one. I think we'll make sure we come in warmer weather next time as we were eating breakfast with beanies and scarves on.
Do you have any other comments? We loved our time in Tuscany and the villa and it's grounds were beautiful (just a bit cold).

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
