Capanna Leopoldina 10 at Rocca di Castellina

Capanna leopoldina is an independent cottage on two floors, located in a sloped garden at the top of the hamlet Rocca di Castellina. From the villa there are fantastic views of the Chianti and of Castellina in Chianti which lies across vineyards and olive groves slightly further up the hill.
Outside the villa is a huge stone paved terrace with incredible views of the olive groves and vineyards bordered by forests that surround this wonderful Tuscan villa. From here the views continue down the valley towards Monteriggioni and then on beyond up the hills that surround Casole val d'Elsa and Colle val d'Elsa. The terrace is furnished with a table and chairs to dine al fresco and to one side is stone built barbeque.
Inside the villa is spacious and bright, it is done in typical Tuscan style with a terracotta floor and the ceiling of terracotta tiles and wooden beams. Entering from the terrace there is a large fully equipped kitchen which includes gas hobs, an oven, dishwasher and a large fridge with separate freezer section. In the centre of the kitchen is a large marble topped island providing plenty of work space.
Passing under an arch there is the dining room. This room is furnished with a tradition Tuscan wooden table with benches on either side. It seats comfortably 10 people. From this room a large glass door provides access to the stone paved terrace outside.
A second terracotta arch leads into the comfortable lounge. This is a large, spacious room which has an angle sofa at the far end and a double sofa to the other side of the room. Between these two sofas there is a glass door out to the terrace. Next to the angle sofa is a terracotta fireplace, ideal for the cooler nights in Autumn or Spring.
Off the lounge is a short corridor which leads to a light blue bathroom which has a shower. Next to this is a bright and spacious double bedroom, done in blue colours. The room has double doors out to the terrace. To one side is a large wardrobe. The room can be made into a twin if requested when booking.
Stairs from the lounge go up to the first floor. Where there are four bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. The first of the bedrooms is at the end of a short corridor. This is the smallest of the rooms and is furnished in a lovely pastel colour. The double bed can be converted into a twin if requested when booking. The large window is in a typical Tuscan style with terracotta tiles. In the room is a wardrobe and a double sofa. En-suite is a bathroom with shower.
Next to this bedroom is a double bedroom that cannot be converted into a twin. The room is done in a pretty orange colour. It has a comfortable double sofa to one side and a double door, wooden wardrobe to the other side. The windows look to the back of the property, and the forests that surround it. En-suite is a bathroom with shower.
At the top of the stairs there is a large suite. It is a lovely room furnished in a soft green colour with double doors to a gravel terrace at the top of the villa garden. To one side of the terrace is a table with chairs which look out towards Castellina in Chianti and the views of the Tuscan hills. Inside the spacious room is a wardrobe, writing desk with chair and a double sofa. The en-suite bathroom has a shower. This room cannot be made into a twin.
The final bedroom is to the right of the stairs. This is also a suite. On entering there is a small sitting area furnished with a double sofa and a writing desk with chair. A terracotta arch leads to the sleeping area where there is a double, iron bed and a wooden wardrobe. The two large windows look out towards Castellina and the excellent views of the rolling Chianti hills. The en-suite bathroom has a shower and a tub.

The owners live on the farm a short distance from the villa. There is a reception area at the farm for local information and assistance. There is also an Internet connection at the reception.

Rocca di Castellina is a working wine and olive oil estate just under 1km from Castellina in Chianti. On the property there are three villas rented plus the owner's residence, and the farm buildings. The entire farm is surrounded by vineyards and olive grove, and has marvelous views down the valley and onto the rolling Tuscan hills beyond.
The pool is above the main building of the property. It's located about halfway between them and the independent cottage. It's a lovely large pool with fantastic views through the olive groves and down the valley onto the hills beyond. The swimming pool is 150 meters from Capanna Leopoldina
The agriturism farm is family run and produces wine and olive oil. There is a small reception to welcome guests and with an Internet connection. It is well positioned to walk to Castellina in Chianti or to a nearby pizzeria, however in the evenings a torch is required to return to Rocca di Castellina.
Pool Info
The pool is located on a slope, about half way between the main agriturism buildings and the Capanna Leopoldina. It is a lovely area, protected by olive groves. To one side is a typical Tuscan forest while the other side looks through the olive trees down the valley towards Colle Val d'Elsa and Monteriggioni, and the rolling hills beyond.
The area is paved with local stone and terracotta, and furnished with plenty of sun beds and umbrellas, making it a wonderful place to relax and enjoy Tuscany.
The swimming pool is 150 meters from the house. It is a large 14x6 metre pool, 1.4 to 2.4 metres deep. It's open from May to October, weather permitting.

Nearest town
The nearest town is Castellina in Chianti. It is about 1km away. Here there is a large choice of shops and restaurants. Other amenities include a bank, post office, doctors office and pharmacy. The nearest restuarant/pizzeria to the property is Il Fondaccio, which is about 500 metres away.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
