Casa Dante is one of two villas converted from two adjoining farm houses, creating very individual accommodation. Great attention has been paid in using natural materials, and restoring the original features wherever possible.

A flight of stone steps leads up to the paved terrace which you cross to reach the entrance to the villa. The front door opens into a lovely open plan ‘L’ shaped lounge/kitchen/diner, which has the traditional terracotta tiled floors and beamed and tiled ceilings throughout.

The very attractive kitchen area has modern fitted units, with an eye level built in oven, separate gas hobs, microwave oven, dishwasher and fridge with freezer section. The dining area with wooden dining table and six chairs is to the right through a wide brick archway.

There is a decorative open fireplace along one wall with the lounge area at the far end of the room. The lounge has two sofas a TV with some satellite channels, a DVD and CD player. Four windows run along the far wall allowing the light to flood into the room.

Steps up from the kitchen area lead to a small hallway with storage cupboard and a door to the ground floor bathroom which has a shower, WC and basin. Stairs from the hallway curve up to the first floor where the two bedrooms are located.

Both bedrooms have windows with views over the surrounding vineyards and can be made into doubles or twins as required. One of the bedrooms has a few extra steps up to it, as does the first floor bathroom, which has a full size Jacuzzi bath with hand held shower, basin and WC.

A further flight of stairs leads to the second floor laundry room with washing machine and separate dryer, iron and ironing board.
Outside the furnished terrace is the perfect spot for dining ‘al fresco’ or relaxing with a glass of wine made from the surrounding vines. From the terrace you have views across the vineyards and olive groves to the distant hillside. A short walk through the hamlet takes you to the pool area which also has breathtaking views over the Tuscan countryside.

The bedrooms can be configured as two doubles or even as four singles on request.  Please advise your preferences when booking.  There are mosquito screens on all the windows.

The hamlet of San Donato in Perano is located close to the Chianti towns of Gaiole and Radda, both of which have a choice of shops, restaurants and bars.

Internet connection free of charge is available in the villa. Bring your own laptop.

Location: San Donato in Perano

San Donato in Perano grew from a cluster of small villages and houses built around the church of San Donato. It became fortified and joined a network of medieval castles which can still be seen on a clear day. During the 15th Century the fortifications were strengthened with the building of a double wall around the estate. Surrounded by fertile agricultural land the castle became a country residence to a wealthy landlord. It was bought in the 16th Century by the Strozzi family, who were an influential Florentine family.

The estate remained in the ownership of the Strozzi family for four centuries, when it was sold in 1967. It is now owned by a co-operative who decided to restore the hamlet and castle buildings, creating very individual accommodation. Great attention has been paid in using natural materials, and restoring the original features wherever possible.
The co-operative have 185 acres of vineyards, the estate is in the heart of the Chianti Classico region and therefore any Chianti wine produced is eligible to display the sign of the black rooster with the initials D.O.C. (Denominazione di origine controllata – Denomination of origin controlled). In addition to the cultivation of the vineyards the co-operative also have seventy acres planted with olive trees from which they make olive oil, bottles of which can be purchased in the hamlet.

The large swimming pool is set in an elevated position with breathtaking views over the surrounding Tuscan countryside. Located beside an olive grove to one side of the hamlet, the pools paved surround is furnished with sun loungers and umbrellas. The pool has two ladders for access one, at the shallow end and one at the deep end, there are also changing rooms for the use of the hamlet’s residents.

Pool Info

The large swimming pool with its far reaching views measures 8 metres by 15 metres. The paved surround is furnished with sun loungers and umbrellas and there are changing rooms for guests use. Set in the grounds of the hamlet next to olive groves the pool has a fenced surround for security.

The two ladders which give access to the pool are located one at either end. The shallow end is 1.1 metres in depth increasing to 1.7 metres at the deepest point. The pool is open from the 1st of May until the 30th of September.

Pros Great location nearby the small hamlet of Vertine and the town of Radda.
Spacious 2 bedroomed, 2 bathroom villa, in secure surroundings.
Fantastic pool, which was well maintained.
Friendly check in despite our late arrival.
Fast wifi
Cons The driving instructions should say that there is an electric gate and you can only get let in by the key holder. There are a lot steps, between each room. If you English hoping for TV, there is only BBC World and Sky News in English- we had to use a VPN to watch any English TV on an iPad. We were a family of 4, don't think there is enough kitchen equipment or seating for 5. The Osteria on site had obviously been closed for some time, yet still appears on the website- very misleading!
Local attractions We thought Radda was much better than the similarly close Giaole- it has a great deli and good choice of restaurants. If travelling to Florence, get the the train for Montevarchi. Nearest big supermarket was in Montevarchi, there is a smaller one outside Radda.

Thank you for your feedback. We removed all the information on the Osteria over a year ago. There was still a picture that showed the sign - we have now removed this to save any confusion in future. Key collection details are on the reservation voucher given to all clients staying at Casa Dante. This says: if you expect to arrive late please call the key holder and let her know your expected arrival time. If you do not call you will not be able to get into the house.

Pros We are repeat visitors, having stayed in late July 2013 during the heatwave. We loved it for all the same reasons this time, and you can see the prior review. In summary, the location, grounds and views, the huge , well equipped and immaculate pool area, the lovely nearbv town of Radda. the country walks, easy drives to other nearby towns (Pienza, Sienna, Montepulciano)...

It was really nice to exchange email and meet Natalia again. She is the best and nicest property manager you could hope for! She is so responsive and helpful day or night!
Cons It's a wonderfull little house and really well maintained and clean. Everything works - the beds are comfortable, the bathrooms spacious, etc. etc. The only thing is that the furniture in the living/dining room is quite bleak, hard, and uninviting. There are two small two-seater couches which are not that comfortable, a small coffee table, and in the dining area a simple expandable table and chairs. There's very little to soften it up. It would make an enormous difference to the ambience and enjoyment of the living room if they could add a rug or two, a nice armchair and large couch or L-shaped couch. One minor thing is that the kitchen seems great at first look, but in fact, it has little usable counter space and has few pans etc. I noticed that the fridge has a broken shelf in the door which is how it was in 2013. But, we will still return even if they don't change it, I'm sure!

Pros Fabulous location. Natalia is lovely and very helpful at check-in. The walks on the "white road" directly from the property are an unexpected treat. Stunning views. And the utter quiet at night, the stars, the birds in the morning. Very beautiful, an ideal Tuscany getaway.
Cons I agree with everyone else about the kitchen needing some upgrading. Seating in the living room could be more commodious as well.
Local attractions Le Contrade in Vinci: delicious, and a lovely sunset. The outdoor market in Radda. The little bar in Vertine. Badia a Coltibuono, and all the wineries in the area. The so-called hamburger place in Panzano. The sculpture garden south of Gaiole. We meant to spend time in Florence, but when you look closely, there is so much to do and see, and so many fabulous restaurants and wineries in the surrounding area, that a visit to Siena and the rest of the time in the Tuscany countryside fills the week quickly!

Pros We enjoyed the location & accessibility. Nicely furnished and comfortable beds, It is a clean a beautiful property. SPECTACULAR VIEW. We would recommend this property to our friends & family.
Cons The kitchen needed a bread knife & linens to dry dishes. The room we were in needed a chest to put flat clothing in for a week stay.
Local attractions Natalia had a large list of rest. cards at the Villa. We used them all and they were all great places to eat. Not a bad meal the entire week of our stay. These towns were the ones we visited. Cortona, San Gimignano, Montepulcino,Montalcino,Radda,Gaiole,Lucca, It was such a great location to visit towns from during our stay. Very convenient.

Pros The views were amazing, the villa was beautiful. The location is near Siena and Florence and other interesting and stunning medieval towns and cities. The vineyard is walking distance from the villa and sells great wine and their staff are very friendly and informative about their wine.
Cons The only thing we felt it could improve on is that there is a lack of vital kitchen utensils.
Local attractions I can't remember their names, i do remember having the best pizza i have ever eaten on the main square in Siena.

Pros Everything!
The best thing is the location , the endless, 360 degree views, so quiet you just hear the birds and the cicadas. Everywhere there is lavendarand rosemary.
The pool area is wonderful, spacious, clean, with changing/bathrooms too.
The house is cute, the rooms all perfectly sized and equipped. Beds very comfortable. Bathrooms really nice, kitchen has all you need. The agent, Natalia, was super nice and responsive.
Hardly any other guests around, but the ones we met were really nice.
Cons Living room seating and patio furniture is very basic - not places to hang out.
Local attractions The country walks directly from the property. Radda (4 minutes) (Gaiole is not so nice) Castellina (20 minutes) Montepulciano (90 minutes) Sienna (40 minutes)

Pros It is in a beautiful position . Has an exquisite view and is also very close to 2 reasonably sized towns !
It is also an hours drive from Florence . We didn't see air conditioning but we didn't need it . You would perhaps want air con in the heat of summer ?? Gorgeous pool area too .
Cons The only thing that was s minor problem was that because we were there at the beginning of summer the pool was cold . We would have used the pool more if it was heated.
Local attractions There is a delicious restaurant in Gaiole which is 2 min away . Don't know the name but you can't miss it as Gaiole is very small . They have the best pizza !! Sienna is nearby too Radda is 5 min away and it is a gorgeous medieval town . San Giamangi ( wrong spelling but that's how we pronounce it ) is a short drive from the villa - a gorgeous town too - very touristy .

Was waren die Highlights Ihres Urlaubs?

What were the highlights of your holiday? Just being in Tuscany - the beauty and serenity of the environment.

And the people - genuine, lovely people who made an effort with the langauge and delighted us with little gifts of wine, flowers and Don Carlos' lavender.
What was your overall impression of the accommodation?    Fabulous!

Spacious, peaceful, clean and in a beautiful setting.

Having the bar/cafe on site was a great bonus.

Only disappointment was that there was no soap in the villa and no tea towels.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us? Only the roads!
Do you have any other comments regarding the accommodation or service? I will be in touch for our next Tuscan holiday (which I hope will be soon!)

What were the highlights of your holiday? Beautiful location, quiet and unspoilt.
what was your overall impression of the accommodation?    Lovely accommodation - very spacious and well kept.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises? No air conditioning in villa! We were so hot at night it was uncomfortable.[TT comment: 2 electric fans have been provided]
Do you have any other comments? We would use To-Tuscany again. Thanks.

Was waren die Highlights Ihres Urlaubs?
Wie war Ihr Gesamteindruck von der Unterbringung? Phantastisch
Gab es unangenehme Überraschungen? Nein
Haben Sie andere Anmerkungen? Die Tatsache dass das fünfte Bett auf dem Schlaf Sofa ist sollte klarer heraus gestellt werden

Casa Dante
What were the highlights of your holiday? There are so many it is hard to list them. We used Casa Dante as a home base and made day trips to various cities in Tuscany. All were beautiful. But as I mentioned above, it was very special just to sit on the patio, enjoy a nice bottle of wine with my family and just let everything soak in!
what was your overall impression of the accommodation?    Casa Dante was very nice. We all felt very confortable and enjoyed the surroundings. Loved the patio and patio table. One of my most special memories will be the time that my family spent there with a nice bottle of Chianti Classico and some cheese and salami from the CO OP! Serena was very nice and helpful.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises? No
Do you have any other comments? We really enjoyed our trip to Tuscany. To Tuscany is a great way to plan a trip to Itally. There are many properties to chose from and so you are able to find something that works for your situation. Thanks for helping to make our trip so much fun!
