Villa Solata sits on the border of Chianti and Valdarno, both regions are famed for their beautiful countryside and great wines. It is an ideal base for exploring the region with Arezzo and Cortona 40 minutes away and even Florence and Siena can easily be reached within 60 to 90 minutes.

The large swimming pool is located at the rear of the property and is reached via stone steps at the side of the house. The relaxing pool area has loungers, chairs and a covered area providing some shade. From here there are great views over the Tuscan countryside and the extensive private grounds.

Formerly home to a Bishop and Solata's 'casa podronale' the villa has been fully restored, retaining many of the original features. Surrounded by acres of private garden including an orchard and an olive grove – this really is a very special place to stay.
Entrance to the villa is through a grand doorway into the hall which has patterned tiled flooring and a marble staircase on the right hand side. To the left is the downstairs bathroom with full sized bath and handheld shower.
Straight ahead and to the left doors lead into the spacious L shaped lounge/diner. This is a bright room with beautiful tiled floors, sofas, digital TV and two sets of double doors leading on to the large terrace.
The terrace has dining table and chairs and great views of the garden and countryside.
The dining room is located at the other end of the room and is adjacent to the kitchen. Here another set of double doors lead out onto the smaller terrace at the rear of the property. This is also furnished with table and chairs.
The large fully furnished kitchen has a built in oven, separate gas hobs, double sink, dishwasher and a fridge/freezer. There is also a large walk in larder.
The marble staircase leads up to the first floor landing, which has tiled flooring. At the top of the stairs double doors open onto a ‘juliet’ balcony above the front entrance. The bedroom at the front right hand side of the villa has wooden floors and an antique brass double bed.
The second bathroom with shower, is situated between the two bedrooms on the right of the property. The bedroom at the rear of the villa on the right has wooden floors, an ironwork double bed, painted wardrobe and its own 'juliet' balcony.
In between the two rear bedrooms is a further lounge space, in which to relax, with chairs and a huge open fireplace and a bookcase with a selection of books.
The fourth bedroom at the front left hand side of the property has a wooden double sleigh bed with matching wardrobe. All bedrooms have two windows each, and all have views of the countryside, gardens or both.

Great location for exploring the Tuscany region.
Local towns with markets nearby.

Salt water swimming pool.

Internet WI-FI available in the villa for free. Please bring your own laptop.

Pros Die Villa ist ein Traum, die Lage fantastisch. Sehr liebevoll eingerichtet.
Einkauf also kurz vor Anreise erledigen.

As in the villa description, the approach road is 3.5km of winding, unpaved country road. There were no insects in the pool. Unfortunately, there was an extraordinary outbreak of horseflies in the area at this time due to the unusual weather conditions. The waste system is the same throughout Italy - waste has to be taken to the nearest facility.

Pros La vue incroyable.

Pros If you wanted quietness and isolation, then this villa was perfect in terms of it's location. It's a beautiful looking villa with some great walks around the area. The road was very windy and tough, but it did give that 'out of the way' feel.
The views were great looking out across the orchard and on to the far distant hills and valley.
The housekeeper was very friendly and helpful.
Cons The house had the feel of a place shut up for a few weeks, a little musty and quite a few cobwebs. Unfortunately most of the plates and dishes had chips and cracks and looked very tatty, I would have expected better. There was no TV for three days, not a total disaster but it would have been nice to have seen the world cup, however the housekeeper did arrange to have it sorted and it transpired it had been damaged when the roof was fixed some weeks before. Perhaps it would have been an idea to test if everything worked before guests arrived? Probably the worst thing for me was that the mattress in the room made up for us had a huge indentation, it was like sleeping in a bowl and impossible to lay on one's side, not great if you had older guests or people with back issues. I had to move. Around the pool area, we were suffering a little from the constant loss of sun behind the trees at about 4PM in addition to having to constantly sweep up the pool area and use the net to clean the pool, maybe coppice the tree's? Please, get a new barbecue, it was nice to have one, thanks...but it was so rusty and falling to pieces. It was a great location for us, but needs a few of the aforementioned things sorted, for the money charged I'm afraid it didn't feel as special as we had hoped.

Thank you for your review. The owner has taken on board what you have mentioned and added a new BBQ. They have cleared up the grounds around the house and garden to make the time at the pool more enjoyable. They have also added a new mattress.

Pros I've given a score excellent for location because we wanted something remote with far reaching views and Solata fitted that bill perfectly but the remoteness might not be to everyone's taste.
The villa included everything you could need.
Cons The track to the village is a bit daunting first time and care must be taken. We had a people carrier and had no problems on the climb or hairpin bends The internet was a bit intermittent. The satellite tv did not work (apparently it had been a problem the week before) The pool was freezing, needs heating somehow.
