Il Fornacino, Armaiolo - Rapolano Terme - Siena and Chianti
The clue is in the name, Il Fornacino, for this villa is, in fact, a cleverly restored furnace. Now providing lodgings for up to eight people, the two-storey building has been beautifully converted and is crammed with character, with exposed brickwork, wood and tiled ceilings and terracotta floors among its many typically Tuscan assets. This is a bright and airy place, thanks to the huge glass entrance door, vaulted ceilings, sweeping archways, high windows, and a double-height ground-floor lounge. A striking flight of wood and iron open stairs connects the two storeys, and a pane of glass in the upper floor provides an unusual visual link between both levels.
A neat terraced garden wraps around the villa, offering two sublime vantage points from which to admire the surrounding olive groves and forested hills. The shaded terrace on the first floor reveals a wonderful panorama of the countryside, while the sundeck by the private pool is sure to enchant you with its dreamy views. But one of this villa’s greatest plus points is its location, placing you just off the main road to the city of Siena, the spa town of Rapolano Terme, and, of course, the vineyards of Chianti.

Our Thoughts
If you like your holiday home to be interesting in itself, look no further than this quirky re-design of a furnace. This piece of Tuscany’s industrial heritage has been lovingly restored, putting the comfort of guests first, with two spacious lounges, a large kitchen-diner, as well as four romantic bedrooms, all of which are en-suite. While you might hesitate at being so close to a main road, you will soon be won over by the delightful gardens and large pool, and the fact that this villa provides a swift access point for some top sightseeing, including nearby Siena.
Notes
Four bedrooms. Four bathrooms, all en-suite. If you wish the beds to be converted to doubles or twins, please request when booking. The dual carriageway to Siena can be seen from the garden and some noise from the road can be heard. The garden is unfenced. The WiFi connection can be a little slow. The stairs are open tread.

Villa location
Guest reviews: Il Fornacino
We had a wonderful stay at Il Fornacino, Bernadetta made us feel very welcome and her English was excellent.
The villa itself was very comfortable and we were very grateful for the air conditioning in the bedrooms as we had scorching temperatures in the day and what would have been unbearable nights without the air con.
Everywhere is bigger than it looks in the photos, there were lots of places to go off quietly and read. Downstairs was the coolest part of the house, the kitchen the most cool.
The pool is cleaned every other day, which means that Bernadetta has to keep coming to start the cleaning robot and then put it away again. To be fair, we never saw her take it away and if you wanted a midnight swim to cool off, it was easy to turn the robot off and start it again when we were done. Any issues we may have had were sorted out very quickly. The pool was our favourite part of the villa- just wonderful.
We were not bothered at all by the noise from the motorway- it was far enough away not to disturb us.Osteria Il Granaio in Rapolano Terme, just 3 mins away by car, was a delicious restaurant- but you do need to book. We found that with many restaurants, booking was the best idea. Triocco in Barbarino val D'Elsa, about 40 mins away was our favourite place to eat- the food was just wonderful- the pizza to die for- but you must book to enjoy the breath taking views while you eat. La Sosta, close to Barbarino was not worth the juourney. In most places our meals for 6 adults came to between 140-200 euros. The coop in Rapolano Terme was plenty big enough for our needs and the pharmacy next door was brilliant.
