Casa Cerralta, is set on a small hilltop surrounded by trees, within in the national park of Val D’Orcia a UNESCO world heritage site. The villa is in a fantastic position surrounded by brunello vineyards with wonderful views over farmland and the Tuscan countryside. This is the perfect getaway for large families or groups of friends wishing to holiday together in a peaceful location. With Casa Cerralta you have the best of both worlds, with a secluded position, yet the town of Torrenieri is only 5km away and here there is a variety of shops, banks, supermarkets, and a choice of restaurants.

The salt water swimming pool is located across the courtyard, down a flight of stone steps. This is a lovely private area, part walled and surrounded by mature hedging. There is plenty of poolside furniture to relax in, as well as a covered gazebo with table and chairs, should you wish to shelter from the sun. The swimming pool is rectangular in shape and is accessed via a ladder at one end.

The property is surrounded by mature trees and shrubs and has large attractive iron gates with a small drive leading to a courtyard.

At the far end of the courtyard there is a covered area with a large dining table and chairs for eight people, guests also have use of a brick barbeque which is next to the outside staircase to the upper kitchen.

There is a further paved patio area with table and chairs. This spot has great views over the countryside as well as the pool area.

The main entrance leads from the courtyard into a large hallway with the traditional terracotta tiled floor and beamed and tiled ceilings.

To the left of the entrance door is the internal staircase to the first floor, directly ahead is the ground floor (2nd) kitchen, which has fitted cupboards, a large built in gas hob, microwave oven and free standing fridge/freezer, to one side is a wooden table and chairs. Next to the kitchen is the downstairs bathroom with shower, hand basin and WC.

To the right of the entrance hall is a large brick archway that leads into the lounge. This is a huge room with four brick columns in the centre. There are various seating areas with comfortable sofas and armchairs.

In one corner is a large wooden dining table with eight chairs, there is also a second smaller wooden table and chairs. The main feature of the room is the large brick built open fireplace; to the left of the fireplace are large arched double doors which open out onto the courtyard.

There are several ways of accessing the first floor; there is the internal staircase from the main entrance hall, also outside there are two sets of external stairs one leads directly into another kitchen and the second leads up to the balcony of the master bedroom. At the top of the internal stairs is a small area with a sofa, writing desk and chair, this is a good place to curl up with a book to escape the heat of the day.

From here you have access to a tiled and beamed corridor off of which a series of doors open into five of the seven bedrooms. There is one twin bedroom and four double bedded rooms, the Master bedroom has an ensuite shower room and a large balcony with fabulous views over the countryside.

There are two bathrooms with showers, one of which is an open shower. All the bedrooms have terracotta tiled floors, high beamed ceilings and windows with views of the countryside.

All are attractively furnished with matching wardrobes, chest of drawers and side tables. The twin bedded room and two of the double bedrooms also have single sofa beds, which is ideal for families with a younger child, wanting to share.

The upstairs kitchen is very well equipped with an oven, gas hobs, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. To the left of the kitchen is the flight of stairs leading up from the courtyard.

The lounge area is through a brick archway and has a large open fireplace with two armchairs in front of it. To the right of the fireplace is a large wooden dining table with eight chairs. There is also a TV with some satellite channels and a DVD player.

To the right of the fireplace a door leads to a further two bedrooms, both have double beds, and as with the other bedrooms, both these rooms have terracotta tiled floors, high beamed ceilings and windows with views of the countryside.

Both are well furnished with matching wardrobes, chest of drawers and side tables, one of the rooms also has a single sofa bed. In between the two bedrooms is a large modern bathroom with full sized bath and hand held shower.

There is a leisure/games room, which includes a billiard table and a table football, on the ground floor. There is a 6th bathroom in this room.

This is a fantastic villa for large groups of family or friends wanting to holiday together.

Virtually every window has far reaching views across the surrounding farmland and the Tuscan hillside.

The air conditioning at Casa Cerralta is charged as used.

Pros We loved the ample space in and around the villa which comfortably accommodated our group of 15. There was plenty of outside seating and lots of room for relaxing by the pool. The views were incredible and the property was well-situated for reaching several fantastic Tuscan towns. All the bedrooms were roomy and comfortable with fantastic views - it made it really easy to share them out, there was no fighting over the 'best' room! The owners were extremely helpful and friendly - they came promptly to sort out an issue with the lighting. We loved that they left a 'mini-bar' of local wines at a more than fair price. They arranged a chef meal for our group and even came along that evening to translate before the food was served. We felt like we were in very good hands.
Cons The unpaved road was a little bit of a surprise - we didn't realise it would be so long (2KM plus). Next time we might rethink our choice of hire car! There was some noise from the only neighbouring property (young children playing) but to be fair I imagine they also got to hear our group chatting when we sat out in the evening, so it can't be helped.
Local attractions Ristorante Boccon Di Vino is fantastic - only a short drive from the villa. They have a fantastic view from their hilltop location and the food was imaginative and tasty. It's slightly more of a fine dining experience compared with other eateries in Montalcino, so more of a treat than a place to eat every night.

Pros The Villa is in a fabulous position surrounded by working vineyards with wonderful views over working farmland and Tuscan countryside which may account for some noise - but all part of the perfect Tuscany holiday experience!

Pros Casa Cerralta fulfilled all our needs; we were 18 and we were very comfortable. We loved the view on Mount Amiata and Montalcino. We enjoyed the large pool everyday and there was enough long chairs for everybody. The 2 well-equipped kitchens and the outside charcoal grill were great to feed our group. Most of all, it was well-situated in Val d'Orchia; near the most interesting villages and only 5km from the nearest food market.
Cons Before you check in, when you speak to the owners, confirm with them if the tap water is drinkable. If not, bring your supply of bottled water. There are 2 refrigerators in the villa. This was not an issue with our group but just a FYI.
Local attractions Terrace at the Il Chiostro di Pienza for the food and the spectacular view on Mount Amiata. The many enotecas in Montalcino and the 200+ vineyards surrounding it. Bicycling on Via Francisgena from Torrenieri to San Quirico to Pienza. Mount Olivieri Abbey near San Giovani. Siena during Il Palio!

Pros We found the house very clean, comfortable & well maintained.
The bedrooms were air conditioned and the owners tried their best to make the house mosquito-proof.
The swimming pool was wonderful and the views magnificent. On the last day we treated ourselves to the chef dinner which was also excellent.
The family were very helpful, and even helped us when one of our party needed a doctor.
Local attractions Sienna was fabulous and Montepulchiano

Pros Mainly everything - the house, the pool, the garden and the possibility for barbecue, also the in-house equipment / activities. And of course the beautiful scenery, landscape and surroundings. A great place for a relaxing holiday for a bigger group of people. Tanti Saluti!
Cons Some of the quite early morning noices coming from the neighbourhood and the fact that some of the maintenance crew entered the premises already two hours prior to our check-out time 10.00 am (which is a bit too early)
Local attractions Montalcino, Siena and the overall surroundings

Pros The location was very good, close to many interesting places. The villa was spacy and nicely decorated. The kids loved the game room. The pool area was nice. The view from the villa was spectacular. The owners were very friendly. Torrenieri was close and there was a good supermarket(Coop).
Cons Hard to find at first, wrong driving instructions. Fortunately the owner picked us from Torrenieri. The kitchen was dark. The barbecue area was too close the villa. There were too many trees close the pool and because of that, we have to clean the pool many times during the day.
Local attractions At Ciacci Piccolomi DÁragona we had a very good wine tasting and tour. Pienza was nice town and the Pecorino we bough from there delicious.
