This traditionally built stone villa sits on a hillside overlooking the valley below. The property is perfect for families wishing to holiday together, yet still retain some independence. Ideally located only 1km from a small village where there is a local grocery store and 15km from the town of Radda in Chianti with its supermarket and wide range of shops and restaurants.
Tucked away to one side at the rear of the property, is the single Roman ended pool. Screened on two sides by trees and hills, and surrounded by attractively planted flower beds, this private area has breath taking views over the Tuscan countryside.
Outside the property is bordered on two sides by trees and hills, the owners have planted terraced flower beds with Mediterranean shrubs and herbs. The grassed terrace which runs the full length of the rear of the property to the pool area is furnished with table and chairs, and is a wonderful spot for alfresco dining. Sitting on the terraced area or by the pool you have the most spectacular far reaching views over olive groves and vineyards.
Villa Il Solatio is built into the hillside and consists of two separate self contained apartments. The entrance to the first floor apartment is level with the driveway. The ground floor apartment is reached via a flight of steps at the side of the house; alternatively there is also a wide slope down to the lower level.
Inside, both apartments have terracotta tiled floors and the typical Tuscan tiled and beamed ceilings throughout. The entrance to the first floor apartment opens into the spacious lounge/kitchen/diner, a short flight of six steps lead down into this airy room.
Along the left hand wall is a fitted kitchenette with electric oven, gas hobs, dishwasher and fridge freezer. In the centre of the room is a wooden dining table and chairs, and on the opposite side of the room is a comfortable ‘L’ shaped sofa and TV with DVD player.
The two double bedrooms are located, one either side off of this room. Both bedrooms have antique style double beds, wooden wardrobes and matching side tables. In addition, bedroom one also has a writing desk with chair as well as an armchair and windows overlooking both the front and back of the property.
Bedroom two has windows all along one wall which overlook the rear of the property. There is also a TV located in this room. Adjacent to each of the bedrooms is a bathroom with shower and heated towel rail.
The ground floor apartment has double doors which open into the lounge/diner. To the left is a doorway through to the small, but well equipped kitchen which has an electric oven, gas hobs, dishwasher and fridge, there is also a door leading directly onto the grassed terrace.
The lounge is comfortably furnished with two sofas a TV and DVD player; there is a traditional wooden dining table with chairs and matching cupboards near to the kitchen. The main feature of the room is a lovely brick built open fireplace.
As with the upstairs apartment, the two bedrooms are located one, either side of the lounge/diner. Both bedrooms again, have antique style beds; bedroom one has double doors opening out onto the grassed terrace.
Bedroom two has high windows along two sides of the room. Next door to each of the bedrooms is a private bathroom with shower and heated towel rail.
The villa is provided with under floor heating.

The villa’s inviting pool is located in a sheltered area, surrounded on two sides by trees and hillside. The paved surround is furnished with sun loungers, tables and umbrellas. This is a lovely area to relax, overlooking the rolling Tuscan countryside.
Single Roman ended in shape, with internal steps leading down into the shallow end. The pool measures 14 metres by 6 metres with a depth of one metre at the shallowest end, increasing to a depth of one and a half metres at the deep end. The pool is open from April to October.
Nearest town
Cavriglia is approximately 5km from the villa. Here there is a choice of shops and restaurants. Further away is Montevarchi which has all amenities including a very large hypermarket.

Gab es unangenehme Überraschungen? Nicht aufregend aber doch. Es gab nächtelanges Hundegebell in der Umgebung. Da gab es einen Hundezwinger und die Hunde schlugen immer an, wenn sich nachts ein Widschwein in der Nähe befand.

Gab es unangenehme Überraschungen? Nicht aufregend aber doch. Es gab nächtelanges Hundegebell in der Umgebung. Da gab es einen Hundezwinger und die Hunde schlugen immer an, wenn sich nachts ein Widschwein in der Nähe befand.

Was waren die Highlights Ihres Urlaubs? Die Lage des Objekts ist durch nichts zu übertreffen. Der Blick von der Terrasse , oder dem Pool einfach toll. Eigentlich möchte man gar nicht weg.
Wie war Ihr Gesamteindruck von der Unterbringung? Das Haus Il Solatio war wie im Prospekt bzw. im Internet dargestellt . alles Super ,Auch die Betreuung durch das Vermieterehepaar war sehr gut Roberta hat sich jeden Tag erkundigt,ob alles in Ordnung war.Auch der Wäscheservice hat uns gut gefallen ,ausreichend Hand und Badetücher,dogar für den Poolbereich mit wöchentlichem Wechsel war sehr angenehm.
Gab es unangenehme Überraschungen? Da wir zur Zeit der Fußball WM angereist waren hatt wir gehofft die Spiele im Fernsehen ( deutsches Programm) sehen zu können,lieder gab es aber nur RAI 1 und 2 die ein Spiel pro Tag übertragen haben.Es gab zwar eine Menge arabische Satelittenkänäle und Verkaufsprogramme, aber leider nur ZNF Neo .Roberta hat zwar versucht etwas in Bewegung zu setzen ,hat aber leider nicht geklappt. Sie hat versprochen ,beim nächsten Mal ist es besser. Dies hat jedoch den Gesammteindruck dieses tollen Ferienhauses nicht geschmälert.
Haben Sie andere Anmerkungen? Nur eins zum Schluß. Wir kommen wieder in die Toskana und nur zu Il Solatio. also bis bald Fam. Wildenhain,Steinrücken und Gerlach.

What were the highlights of your holiday? Time spent by the pool, going for a dip, meeting the lovely owners, seeing the Piero della Francesca frescoes in Arezzo. Fresh figs off the trees, seeing the sunrise over the hills on the far side of the valley while mist covered the lower slopes. Good ice cream in Florence and a delicious measl at Quattro Leoni in same city. Kind, friendly people.
What was your overall impression of the accommodation? The house was large and commodious. The views from the prperty were breathtaking although the track is rough and, after heavy rain when mud poured down the hill, became difficult to negotiate. The pool was fabulous and outdoor furniture good. Grounds well maintained. By the time we went in September the house needed a thorough inside cleaning - a bit cobwebby and the settees looking shabby. Towels, sheets - all good.Bathrooms clean.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us? Not a surprise really but the mosquitoes were a nuisance and any sitting outside after 5.30 entailed being covered up.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
