This traditionally built stone villa sits on a hillside overlooking the valley below. The property is perfect for families wishing to holiday together, yet still retain some independence. Ideally located only 1km from a small village where there is a local grocery store and 15km from the town of Radda in Chianti with its supermarket and wide range of shops and restaurants.

Tucked away to one side at the rear of the property, is the single Roman ended pool. Screened on two sides by trees and hills, and surrounded by attractively planted flower beds, this private area has breath taking views over the Tuscan countryside.
Outside the property is bordered on two sides by trees and hills, the owners have planted terraced flower beds with Mediterranean shrubs and herbs. The grassed terrace which runs the full length of the rear of the property to the pool area is furnished with table and chairs, and is a wonderful spot for alfresco dining. Sitting on the terraced area or by the pool you have the most spectacular far reaching views over olive groves and vineyards.

Villa Il Solatio is built into the hillside and consists of two separate self contained apartments. The entrance to the first floor apartment is level with the driveway. The ground floor apartment is reached via a flight of steps at the side of the house; alternatively there is also a wide slope down to the lower level.

Inside, both apartments have terracotta tiled floors and the typical Tuscan tiled and beamed ceilings throughout.  The entrance to the first floor apartment opens into the spacious lounge/kitchen/diner, a short flight of six steps lead down into this airy room.

Along the left hand wall is a fitted kitchenette with electric oven, gas hobs, dishwasher and fridge freezer. In the centre of the room is a wooden dining table and chairs, and on the opposite side of the room is a comfortable ‘L’ shaped sofa and TV with DVD player.

The two double bedrooms are located, one either side off of this room. Both bedrooms have antique style double beds, wooden wardrobes and matching side tables. In addition, bedroom one also has a writing desk with chair as well as an armchair and windows overlooking both the front and back of the property.

Bedroom two has windows all along one wall which overlook the rear of the property. There is also a TV located in this room.  Adjacent to each of the bedrooms is a bathroom with shower and heated towel rail.

The ground floor apartment has double doors which open into the lounge/diner. To the left is a doorway through to the small, but well equipped kitchen which has an electric oven, gas hobs, dishwasher and fridge, there is also a door leading directly onto the grassed terrace.

The lounge is comfortably furnished with two sofas a TV and DVD player; there is a traditional wooden dining table with chairs and matching cupboards near to the kitchen.  The main feature of the room is a lovely brick built open fireplace.

As with the upstairs apartment, the two bedrooms are located one, either side of the lounge/diner. Both bedrooms again, have antique style beds; bedroom one has double doors opening out onto the grassed terrace.

Bedroom two has high windows along two sides of the room. Next door to each of the bedrooms is a private bathroom with shower and heated towel rail.

The villa is provided with under floor heating.

The property is perfect for families wishing to holiday together, yet still retain some independence.

Pros beautiful,comfortable house,beautiful views,well-kept garden
Cons The dream holiday turn into the nightmare. I hired this villa to spend a relaxing time with my family. Unfortunately since we arrived we have realised that we are going to be part of the building site! We have been waking up by the noise every day and the building works were taking place every single day through the whole day. I am very disappointed that nobody informed me about it! Obviously I would not book it. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Pros Perfect house for larger group of people and the well equipped house and large pool is a perfect base for a good vacation. Especially the desperate sleeping sections with separate bathrooms was good. The hostess was very friendly and guided us well to supermarket, restaurants etc.
Cons The location if Il Solatio is a bit far away from everything - There is a 30 min drive to nearest high-way which leads to some time of transport when going to Siena, Florence etc.
Local attractions City of Catellina is worth a visit

Pros The location and views of Il Solatio are amazing! The villa overlooks vineyards, hills and a church. The gardens and pool area are beautiful. Such a large pool and really well kept gardens. The villa itself is split over two floors, with large rooms and all the facilities you need. The interior is decorated in a typical Tuscan style with dark wood furniture with a light and airy feel.

We had a really great time and spent the majority of it around the pool and visiting lovely villages and towns in Tuscany - fab holiday and miss it already.
Cons The cleanness could be better. It wasn't awful but cobwebs around, some sticky kitchen shelf's and units. There is a lot of chintzy bits and bobs that could just do with a bit of a clear away to make it look more up to date, but some people may like this feel. It's not a 'didn't like' just my taste. New knifes, folks and some kitchen equipment would be an improvement, but not too bad. Main area for improvement is the fridges. They need to be replaced. They do not close properly and the top freezer draws are broken, so a build up for ice and the door keeps falling off. They are very old. Although good value I think that a small welcome pack of washing up liquid, bin bags, sponges etc should be provided free of charge to help keep it clean and you don't want to go shopping for these things on holiday.
Local attractions We went to so many places. My favourite was Greve in Chianti, a lovely town, you must visit the butchers, which is also a wine tasting and cheese/meat tasting and café. There is also another wine & oil tasting cellar in Greve that is worth a visit. Places you should visit are; Castellina and Radda in Chianti, small quaint villages, San Gimignano a great town with lots of towers, restaurants and shops, Siena for the lovely plaza square. Of course a visit to Florence is a must and Pisa to go up the learning tower. We also visited Lucca on the same day and Pisa and it really is worth going, a lovely town with lots of shops and sights to see. Our favourite local restaurant in Cavriglia was Papposileno. You must go, lovely food, service and a good price. Check it out on Trip Advisor, great reviews.

Pros We'd been there twice before. Beautiful house, perfect for couples: each room has a bathroom and each one, on the two floors, is across a small kitchen/living area from the other, so there's plenty of privacy. Wonderful view over the hills and down across young vineyards and olive trees. Miles from anywhere, which is great if you like peace and quiet.
A whole warmhearted family runs the place and helps guests out; this time, our Italian-speaking friends went to see the family's apiary and came home raving about fresh honey in the comb.
Cons The only thing my husband and I didn't like was that we didn't get to go! He was coming down with a terrible knee infection--septic arthritis--which hit him so hard during our night in Cremona on the way to the house that we flew home. It says a lot, then, that three couples, our best friends, had a wonderful time at the house--helped 100 % by the warmth and openness of Roberta and her clan. The only imperfection in the house is that the beds are a little saggy? Old-fashioned? Not likely to be a problem for kids or youngish people with good backs.
Local attractions Arezzo: church of San Francesco with beautiful frescoes by Piero della Francesca; Groppina, a tiny Romanesque church with wonderful strange stone carvings (take a very small car or you'll get stuck in the narrow streets); the Badia Coltibuono winery in a restored monastery --very good tour of the premises, though we usually hate tours, and a very good restaurant; in Cavrigila a wonderful casual fresh local food restaurant, Papposileno, run by a merry, enthusiastic and very English-articulate young fellow named Marco. It's also easy to get to Florence: skip the car, leave it in the parking lots near the Montevarchi train station (not easy to find, leave yourself plenty of time), take an early train into Florence and a late one back. It's an hour trip, and you'll spare yourself the panic and rage of trying to to park IN Florence. A very walkable city: you certainly don't need a car. A very pretty old walled town near Il Solatio: Radda in Chianti. Almost too perfect to be true and a lot of tourists throng though it, but it's still a charming place. Look through the house book of local sites/events and find the outdoor farmers' markets in certain places on certain days. Lots of fun to go. Take your own bags, to minimize earthly clutter. The Italians aren't too good on this.

Pros Location, location, location. The grounds around the property. Fruiting trees and herbs in the garden. Pool and table tennis table. BBQ area. Proximity to wineries
Cons Towels were a bit thin. Lack of any provisions in the kitchen you would normally expect such as trash bags, salt and pepper, coffee filters, etc.
Local attractions Castllo d'Albola winery was fantistic. Having a chef come to Il Solatio was the best part of the holiday

Pros The views from the property were sensational. The pool was excellent. In terms of facilities, everything that you could need was available. Very peaceful and in reasonable travel distance of Florence and Siena as well as being deep in the heart of Chianti country. The owner was very responsive and easy to talk to.
Local attractions Sensational Florence and Siena are both within an hours drive. Great (slighlty expensive) dining at Papposileno (Cavriglia), and nice cheap pizzeria as part of the football stadium complex in Cavriglia and a great little restaurant in Santa Barbara (don't be put off by the cooling towers). Main reason for choosing this villa is to chill by the pool.

What were the highlights of your holiday? Time spent by the pool, going for a dip, meeting the lovely owners, seeing the Piero della Francesca frescoes in Arezzo. Fresh figs off the trees, seeing the sunrise over the hills on the far side of the valley while mist covered the lower slopes. Good ice cream in Florence and a delicious measl at Quattro Leoni in same city. Kind, friendly people.
What was your overall impression of the accommodation?    The house was large and commodious. The views from the prperty were breathtaking although the track is rough and, after heavy rain when mud poured down the hill, became difficult to negotiate. The pool was fabulous and outdoor furniture good. Grounds well maintained. By the time we went in September the house needed a thorough inside cleaning - a bit cobwebby and the settees looking shabby. Towels, sheets - all good.Bathrooms clean.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us? Not a surprise really but the mosquitoes were a nuisance and any sitting outside after 5.30 entailed being covered up.
Do you have any other comments regarding the accommodation or service?

What were the highlights of your holiday? Thew fantastic views and pool;
What was your overall impression of the accommodation?    Quite good, however, I might suggest that the ;'fridge and Freezers were poor. There should have been plastic glasses for use around the pool - a microwave might help.
Bathrooms and bedrooms excellent
More deetails required about local restaurants -there is a fantastic one in Cavriglia not mentioned anywhere - accurate details about bread shop in Neri.

Was waren die Highlights Ihres Urlaubs?

Was waren die Highlights Ihres Urlaubs?
