La Casanova is a stone cottage resting on a south facing hills 300 metres from central Radda in Chianti, one of Italy's most famous hilltop villages, known for its cafes, bars and restaurants. The cottage is owned by local celebrity and TV chef Luciano Porciatti who lives in the main house behind the cottage, there is a large furnished terrace with superb open views of the vineyards and olive groves or the Radda in Chianti hills. NOTE: The owners may also use the pool

Within an hour South of Florence and 40 minutes from Siena, in the key area of the Chianti wine-growing region, the stone cottage has fantastic views of rolling hills blanketed in olive groves, vineyards and woodlands. From its terrace, that runs the length of the property and is furnished with sun lays and a wooden table with four chairs, day or night you cannot help but be captivated by this amazing vista.

A 5 minute stroll will take you into one of Italy's most famous hilltop villages Radda in Chianti where the locals greet tourists with a smile, there is a coop and excellent butchery and Lucinano's own deli - famous throughout Italy for its specialist products - www.casaporciatti.com. In the evening or for lunch there are several restaurants from fine dining to Pizzerias.

Designed for comfort and convenience, the house boasts a well-equipped kitchen, satellite television and a well-fitted bathroom, all surrounded by a pretty garden with a large patio that leads across to the swimming pool. Florence and Siena are easily reached by car or by occasional public transport.

The accommodation is on one level and the entrance takes you into a kitchen dining area, the kitchen to the left is well equipped with an electric oven and gas hobs, there is no dishwasher. For eating inside there is a table and chairs, plus a sofa for relaxing and watching the news channels on the SAT TV.

To the left a door leads to a small corridor from which there is a comfortable study that converts into a single bedroom using a sofa bed, off the study is a large storeroom with washing machine. Ahead is the bright modern bathroom with shower; there is no window in the bathroom. To the right the ample double bedroom has plenty of wardrobe space and double doors spilling onto the terrace.

The property is completely fenced with parking right by the cottage. There are terracotta pots with newly planted herbs and flowers plus a well maintained grassed area to the side of the cottage. The pool is found 30 meters from the cottage through the gate of the cottage across the drive and into the wonderfully maintained gardens of the main house. The owners also have use of the pool.

Pros The patio and views were wonderful. The villa/cottage was exactly as described with its Internet information piece.
Cons The furnishings were a bit spartan but again it was as described.

Pros Owners respected our privacy but we knew we could speak to them at any time. View from terrace was stunning looking over the olive groves and vineyards. The proximity to the village was great, it was close enough to be convenient but far enough away to make the villa quiet (approx 5 minute walk). Everyone was very friendly and appreciated our "attempts" at Italian.
Cons Out of the control of the villa owners there were some dogs that were obviously let out mid afternoon and then had barking "matches" but it didn't disturb us.
Local attractions Osterai Alla Piazza in La Piazza for a special night, Pizza Pie for a bit of fun with a good price (pizza is as big as they describe) and La Forchette. The Porciatti deli for delicious meats, cheeses and other delightful treats. Antica Gelateria Delizia in Castellina for the best Gelato you will "ever" taste. The range of trophies on display say enough about how good it is

Pros The location was just what I had wanted. It was set among olive grove and grape vines. There was a fabulous deli/supermarket in town. The Vila was just so clean and comfortable it made you feel like you were at home.. But it was the peacefulness and absolut quietness that was so restful. And to make the experience even better the family who own the villa were the nicest people we had met in Italy. They were so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them.
Local attractions The Villa was within an easy drive to Florence(we went twice as there is so much to see). It was also an easy drive to San Gimonani. There is a fabulous winery called il molino di Grace. The red wine was fabulous and wished we could bring it home. We also found this wonderful little restaurant near Greve call il Casterlina. We went there twice as the pasta with truffle sauce was fabulous. The service was outstanding and it was full even though it was pouring outside.

Pros The secluded position but being able to walk into town
Cons The occasional noises from local area (work being undertaken) which could disturb day but this only minimal and the thing I could think of
Local attractions Whilst we never had a bad meal in Radda our outstanding restaurant was La Botte closed followed be Al Chiasso dei Portici. In terms of local attractions Volpaia is definitely worth a visit but we thought was Siena was beautiful

Pros La Casanova was ideally situated for a short walk to all the local restaturants. It is spacious and provides all the necessities required. The hosts are very friendly and welcoming.
Cons The sitting room could do with a small arm chair otherwise guests are crambed together on the small sofa which is uncomfortable in the intense heat. The shower cubical is flimsy and doesn't suit the style of the villa, a better quality unit or a wet room would have been more appropriate.
Local attractions We visited more than once the Pizza Pie on the way to town. Food very much the same in all the restaurants. Took a bus trip to Siena which was excellent. 4 euros each way per person, but tickets in the tabacconists, which deposits you at the train station. Then a further 1.50 euro per person on the bus into Siena itself which drops you at Via Garibaldi a short walk to the centre station. You need to buy both parts of the journey together and validate the ticket once on the bus in the yellow box.

Pros The Owners were very nice and very helpful. They were there if you needed any help otherwise they let you get on with your holiday and it was very private. Radda was walking distance and had many lovley places to eat or have a drink. The Villa had everything you needed and more. You had full use of the pool (not that the weather permitted) The view was fantastic over the grape vines and olive groves. We would go back again in the future
Local attractions Radda was full of spectacular dining. You had many choices of fine dining to great cafe food. Not one meal we had in Radda was a disappointment. We explored the region by day and came back to explore the local food and wine by night. It was our first time in Tuscany and after visiting the other towns in the region we knew we had made the best choice for location. I highly recommend Radda and La Casanova

Pros Upon our arrival, we were taken aback by the beautiful view (including the valley and hillsides across from us with the many vineyards and olive trees amongst the occasional beautiful Tuscany homes) from the villa, an example of the many views we would see in Tuscany. It was clean, contained a very comfortable bed, and had the little extras to make for a great visit. It was central to driving to many beautiful small towns.
Cons For whatever reason the shower had little if any power and no consistency with regard to temperature. We took quick showers as a result.
Local attractions We always had excellent meals. It was hard for one to stand out over another but the meals in Volpaia, initially the Bar Ucci and later the Bottega di Volpaia, with its wonderful view from the terrace, and the Bottega di Lornano (in Lornano) on the drive to Sienna, and Pentinetta in Sassolini (in Panzano). One restaurant we cannot recall but was in the same league in Radda was on the second floor with a garden area downstairs. Uffizi Gallery in Florence was amazing and worth the visit with an audio guide.

Pros The welcome we received by the Porciatti family was superb as was the villa, its peaceful location and views. It was very well equipped and clean. We would definitely visit again. The Classico Chianti region is wonderful and we fell in love with it and the villa!
Cons The only complaint we had was regarding the fan. There was only one fan but as there were three of us, our son and ourselves, we let our son use the fan at night so we sweltered! It is only a very minor point but two fans would have been great.
Local attractions Restuarants - Pizza Pie, La Vigne Attractions - San Gimignano, Sienna, Volpaia, La Castello D'Albola, Montereggioni, Castellina.

Pros The views were amazing. We spent so much time on the terrace! It was well located to visit Sienna, Florence abd all the surrounding beautiful villages.
Cons The only thing I would have liked was for the pool to be located next to the villa. If I had taken my children I would have had to lock up the villa and go with them as it was within the grounds of the main house. That said though, it was a minor inconvenience for me travelling with a friend.
Local attractions We visited San gimiano twice. It was beautiful! Great for buying handbags and leather goods. Sienna was stunning. Radda was a lovely unspoilt hilltop village.

Pros La Casanova is the perfect villa for anyone who is looking for a relaxed, blissful holiday. We had a week here as part of our honeymoon and it was our highlight. It offers everything you need, from a large comfortable bed to a rustic BBQ to a well stocked kitchen (every type of pot or utensil you could ever need - we cooked evening meals at the villa 3 out of the 7 days with no hassle - including a BBQ one night).

The villa is very well maintained and very clean. Their pool is large and it's easy to get a good swim (if you can tear yourself away from the stunning views long enough to swim) and there are plenty of quality sun loungers too. The owners respect your privacy and we had the pool to ourselves.

The villa is in a perfect position far enough away from the rest of the town to give a lovely peaceful atmosphere, yet less than 5 minutes walk to the centre of the beautiful village where you will find a lot more activity. It's also a good base for visiting Florence and Siena, but the villa had so much to offer and Radda was so perfect we didn't get time to travel any further!

The owners are so warm and welcoming, we couldn't have asked for nicer hosts. They were lovely people.

Pictures don't do the villa justice, it is much larger than we expected and the views are truly amazing. You really do get your monies worth with this place. This was our first private villa and we have been spoiled rotten!
Cons Honestly can't think of anything we didn't enjoy during our stay at La Casanova.
Local attractions We visited quite a few restaurants in Radda during our week there, One that stood out was Pizza Pie - this relaxed cafe/restaurant's speciality was giant pizzas for 2 that tasted amazing. We never managed to finish one and we went back 3 times! We also went on a Chianti Classico wine tour with Emily from A Tuscan Table - 3 vineyards with lunch - it was fantastic and we thoroughly recommend her for anyone who wants a hassle-free, relaxed tour. She was excellent, full of knowledge of the area and wine and we visited some fantastic wineries with her. A real high point of our holiday.

Pros Loved the setting and the fact we were able to walk 10 minutes to the village (despite having a rental car). It was so lovely and peaceful. The villa was very well equipped. The views were spectacular and could not be beaten. Excellent value.
Cons There was nothing we didn't like.
Local attractions San Gimignano, Castellina, Greve in Chianti, Gaiole in Chianti. Excellent meal at La Botte di Bacco. Also the cafe opposite Porciatti's deli...we went there 3 times. Check out Ricardo's wine shop...it's a must do.

Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us? None.
Do you have any other comments regarding the accommodation or service? We have booked with To-tuscany many times now and this was by far the best place we have stayed. What were the highlights of your holiday? The villa, Radda in Chianti, the Porciatti family, the many hill top towns we visited, visiting some of the less well known places like Monteriggioni and Cortona, the pace of life, the food, the wine. Sienna, Florence and San Gimignano are musts to visit and within easy reach from the villa by train, car or bus.
What was your overall impression of the accommodation?    Villa Casanova is a wonderful place to stay. We stayed there for our two week honeymoon: a most romantic setting overlooking the Tuscan hills and vineyards. It is a very well equipped, modern and extremely clean villa. We found this a perfect location and base to explore the many attractions of Tuscany. The family Porciatti are extremely welcoming and very friendly. The pool is very clean and has fantastic views; a great place to go and unwind at the end of a day. We found the guest book in the villa as an invaluable source of information and would recommend anybody staying to read it. Villa Casanova is a 5 minute walk to the centre of Radda in Chianti which is a beautiful, historic town.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us? None
Do you have any other comments regarding the accommodation or service? Don't hesitate to book Villa Casanova. It is all it says it is. We found it the perfect location for our honeymoon and will definitely be returning there in the future. Thank you to Simonetta and her family for their friendliness and a wonderful stay.

Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us? No. The guides and information provided by yourselves meant we were well prepared for all eventualities. The comments book completed by previous guests at the accommodation was invaluable

What were the highlights of your holiday? Wonderful food everywhwere, wineries, Radda is a lovely hilltop town, Siena is fantastic, San Gimignano, driving through the countryside, nice people everywhere.
what was your overall impression of the accommodation?    Very nice villa for two people. Could have used a few more lights throughout, especially in the bedroom.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises? Weather was awful. Rained every day in Tuscany, although not all day. Every time the sun came out we ran outside to sit on the patio and take pictures. Just caught a bad week, but it did not stop us from doing our thing. Florence seems overrun by street vendors.,
Do you have any other comments? We would love to return to Tuscany with, hopefully, better weather the next time.

What were the highlights of your holiday? The local food, the wine tasting and the scenery
what was your overall impression of the accommodation?    it was a perfect vila, in a fantastic location
Did you have any unpleasant surprises? Only the rain and hail the size of peas!!!
Do you have any other comments? It was a perfect Honeymoon Vila as Lisa had said it would be, the Family that own it were so helpful, friendly and welcoming. The location was ideal you could walk into Radda if you wanted a few glasses of wine in the evening, we found it easy to get to other local towns, Sena was only arond 30mins away. we cant wait to go back!

What were the highlights of your holiday? The town of Radda, and the host family. Very accomadating and helpful, and not to mention the best meat in town!
what was your overall impression of the accommodation?    It was excellent. Better than i even expected. We could have stayed there for awhile!
Did you have any unpleasant surprises? Just on the way to Florence, we had an unexpected detour, but that had to do with the airlines and weather of course. Besides that, not at all.
Do you have any other comments? We would love to come back in the Summer months to enjoy the pool!

What were the highlights of your holiday? We had such a great holiday! I think the main reason besides Italy being so amazing is that we stayed in apartments and the villa instead of hotels. Venice was definately a highlight as was Tuscany. We needed to just destress and the villa was perfect for that. We also loved the food and the Chianti, our holiday was way beyond our expectations!
what was your overall impression of the accommodation?    Spotless, well maintained and very well stocked. The villa was perfect for us and I do believe has one of the most beautiful settings that we have seen in Tuscany. Great location to the town as promised as you can walk there in 10 min or less. The town Radda has great restaurants and is a central location.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises? We had purchased a GPS in Canada prior to leaving and had alot of trouble with it in Italy, however we were up for the adventure and enjoyed the detours that it took us on - the GPS has since been returned.
Do you have any other comments? I found To Tuscany quite easily on the web but when we were talking to some Americans they had not come across it so maybe more marketing. We are more than happy with everything and will hopefully be using your service again in the near future.

What were the highlights of your holiday? Visiting Siena on the day of the Palio, the meals at Le Vigne restaurant, spending time at the pool at the villa and meals on the terrace at the villa, driving through the Chianti countryside.
what was your overall impression of the accommodation?    Excellent. The villa was exceptionally clean, comfortable and could not be faulted. Everything we needed was provided. All rooms where tastefully furnished and there was plenty of space. The villa was in an exceptionally good location with wonderful views. The villa hosts were very courteous and helpful.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises? Crowds and costs in Florence, not being able to actually get into any of the main attractions because of horrendous queues; the state of Pisa outside the field of Miracles; the tawdry street vendors at Pisa; the car hire queues at Pisa airport.
Do you have any other comments? The positives far out-weigh the negatives and we had a great holiday.

What were the highlights of your holiday? Tuscany in particular Radda were definately our favourites of the trip.
what was your overall impression of the accommodation?    Words can't describe it!! It was immaculate, exactly as was described on the website and went beyond our expectations. Simonetta is the most wonderful host so warm and made us feel as if we were at home.
Did you have any unpleasant surprises? None at all.
Do you have any other comments? I can't recommend highly enough both To-Tuscany and in particular La Casonova. Our stay was the best part of our trip (and we had so many wonderful parts to the trip). Your service is superb please don't change a thing!! We stayed at La Casonova with an 18mth old and we recommend it over and over to families with small childeren it is so perfect. We can't wait to go back and stay again Simonetta and her family are the most perfect of hosts and please pass on our thanks to them. I will also be posting comments to the effect on sites such as Slow Traveller and Trip Advisor.
