La Casanova is a stone cottage resting on a south facing hills 300 metres from central Radda in Chianti, one of Italy's most famous hilltop villages, known for its cafes, bars and restaurants. The cottage is owned by local celebrity and TV chef Luciano Porciatti who lives in the main house behind the cottage, there is a large furnished terrace with superb open views of the vineyards and olive groves or the Radda in Chianti hills. NOTE: The owners may also use the pool

Within an hour South of Florence and 40 minutes from Siena, in the key area of the Chianti wine-growing region, the stone cottage has fantastic views of rolling hills blanketed in olive groves, vineyards and woodlands. From its terrace, that runs the length of the property and is furnished with sun lays and a wooden table with four chairs, day or night you cannot help but be captivated by this amazing vista.

A 5 minute stroll will take you into one of Italy's most famous hilltop villages Radda in Chianti where the locals greet tourists with a smile, there is a coop and excellent butchery and Lucinano's own deli - famous throughout Italy for its specialist products - www.casaporciatti.com. In the evening or for lunch there are several restaurants from fine dining to Pizzerias.

Designed for comfort and convenience, the house boasts a well-equipped kitchen, satellite television and a well-fitted bathroom, all surrounded by a pretty garden with a large patio that leads across to the swimming pool. Florence and Siena are easily reached by car or by occasional public transport.

The accommodation is on one level and the entrance takes you into a kitchen dining area, the kitchen to the left is well equipped with an electric oven and gas hobs, there is no dishwasher. For eating inside there is a table and chairs, plus a sofa for relaxing and watching the news channels on the SAT TV.

To the left a door leads to a small corridor from which there is a comfortable study that converts into a single bedroom using a sofa bed, off the study is a large storeroom with washing machine. Ahead is the bright modern bathroom with shower; there is no window in the bathroom. To the right the ample double bedroom has plenty of wardrobe space and double doors spilling onto the terrace.

The property is completely fenced with parking right by the cottage. There are terracotta pots with newly planted herbs and flowers plus a well maintained grassed area to the side of the cottage. The pool is found 30 meters from the cottage through the gate of the cottage across the drive and into the wonderfully maintained gardens of the main house. The owners also have use of the pool.

The property owner and his sister who live in separate houses next to the cottage provide assistance at Casanova they both speak some English.

House was different, kitchen, lounge, dinning room all in one????All cupboards so high to reach. Bedroom and bed was big and very comfortable .
Space outside good but not a lot of shade?views were lovely. Could not walk
To eat anytime as the roads were pretty bad.even though they were not so far to go. A car is needed, and sorry to say the mosquitoes were very very bad indeed. See in book even June, and other months
It is the olive trees we think, nearly spoilt holiday?
Local attractions Borollo castle lovely, drives around country side good,Radda was truly Lovely and enjoyed all our visits each day for coffee and Lucianno's Deli that was fantastic.Valpaia , a small hamlet was really good.olive oil is a must to taste and buy

Ausstattung komplett-alles da was man so braucht.

From the moment we arrived and stood on the terrace looking out at the beautiful view across the valley, we felt the tension from our journey ebb away. La Casanova is in a superb location. Peaceful and on it's own, yet a short walk away and you can be relaxing at La Bottega Di Giovannino's bar with the best Aperol Spritz in Radda!

Simonetta Porciatti and her family welcome you with open arms and their shop stocks everything and more you need, including wonderful cheeses, meats, vegetables, chilled beer and wine - perfecto!

As keen cyclists, we were there with our road bikes and spent our days cycling up and down and around the area. Gaiole, Lecchi, Castellina, Panzano, Greve, Volpaia. Even Siena (though this was a map reading error!). Stopping for wonderful espresso and cake stops along the way!

Relaxed suppers were enjoyed out on the terrace watching bats swoop. Then, as darkness falls, the stars light up the night sky. It is a magical place.

La Casanova is well designed to take advantage of that uninterrupted view. The kitchen/dining area has double french doors as does the bedroom, so you can always look out and no room feels dark. The kitchen is well equipped and the villa was spotless with little jugs of fresh flowers dotted around.

A joy!

Very nicely cared for and clean. Great views and location.
Even though the website suggests the pool is shared, the photos seem to give the impression the pool is outside the villa. It's not exactly - you effectively have to go up to the owner's garden to use which I wasn't personally comfortable doing. It would be worth stating pool opening hours too. I thought about an early morning swim, but pool didn't open until 930am. Guests also need to bring pool towels - not necessarily something you'd pack.

Thank you very much for your review. We apologise for any confusion with the pool. As in the villa description 'The pool is found 30 meters from the cottage through the gate of the cottage across the drive and into the wonderfully maintained gardens of the main house.'

The villa is the perfect size and location for a couple or a small party. The owners are very helpful and approachable whilst maintaining their distance in order for you to enjoy your holiday as you wish. The swimming pool is always clean and well maintained and the levels of facilities at La Casanova are excellent. Everything you could need is provided and the standard of the accommodation is very high. This is our second visit to La Casanova and we will definitely visit again - we have always been made to feel very welcome by Simonetta and Luciano and this villa never disappoints!
Local attractions The Porciatti family run shops in the town centre are excellent and the produce they offer are delicious. The newly expanded wine and bistro are excellent and Ricciardo is very knowledgable and happy to spend time discussing and sampling all the products. We found the larger supermarket in Firenze more suitable for getting a wider range of food for self-catering purposes but with the wide range of restaurants in the local area you will never go hungry.

Fantastic location, within easy walking distance of Radda and ovelooking the valley.

The accomodation was even better than the pictures, very clean, rustic and homely. The lack of airconditioning was not a problem, the shutters were very effective at keeping the inside of the house cool.
Unfortunately the nearest vineyard was undergoing a replanting and so we had lots of early morning digger noise.

Nothing anyone could do, we understand it's a working vineyard so no complaints.

La Casanova blends old world design with modern day comforts.

Upon being welcomed by Luciano and Simonetta, we immediately felt that "their home": was "our home". We loved the amazing terrace with postcard-like views that was the perfect place to sip espresso in the morning or a glass of Chianti at sunset.

We enjoyed going to the market and being able to stay in and cook a few meals and relax.

Also, being able to "pack light" and wash clothes as necessary was a big plus.

Nothing comes to mind. We loved it! Can't wait to go back.
Local attractions We enjoyed exploring the hilltop cities that were all about 1-3 hours away. Our favorite was the 2,000 year old Etruscan city of Volterra. We went twice. However, wherever the adventure of the day took us, we always enjoyed coming back home for dinner in Radda. Our favorite restaurants was La botte di Bacco with a ravioli to die for. We had great service and amazing food (very romantic). We also enjoyed La Perla del Palazzo and Pizza Pie (for a great BIG authentic pizza). Oh and don't forgot to visit the Livernano store and get some of their amazing olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

The setting is beautiful; the vineyards, olive groves, Tuscan hills and sunsets are lovely. The location is very quiet and private--no other guests around; yet a very short walk to the picturesque center of Radda for restaurants, shops, and relaxing. The family that owns the villa (the Porciattis) are very pleasant, kind, and helpful without being intrusive--perfect hosts. It is easy to get to so many other beautiful and interesting places, from the teaming city of Florence to other quiet hilltop medieval hamlets.

La Casanova met or exceeded all of our expectations.
Local attractions La Botte di Bacco was our favorite restaurant for a full multi-course meal; Giovannino's was great and fun for pasta or antipasto and wine; we also enjoyed Dante's and La Perla. Go to the visitors' center and get maps and directions for hikes around Radda--we especially enjoyed hiking to the little villages of Volpaia and Vertine (our favorite--hike there and have lunch in the one little café in the ancient hill-top village). We had a great winery tour, tasting, and lunch at Monterinaldi. We enjoyed visits to Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Voltera, and Monteriggioni, among other places. Be sure to frequent the Porciatti's store in Radda for the fine meats, cheeses, and wines and the home made "specials" of the day (sauces, roasts, etc.) you can take home for dinner.

Simonetts and her whole family were extremely friendly and helpful. The villa was exactly what we had hoped for. Close enough to town that we could walk in for a drink or coffee and far enough away that you felt like you were in the countryside.
We had some beautiful meals at local restaurants and day trips to surrounding towns. But just loved relaxing on the terrace of the villa with some local wine and food.
Nothing it was perfect.
Local attractions We travelled to Castallins and had the best Gelatto. We loved San Gimigiano it had a great atmosphere and lots of interesting shops and restaurants. Our last day we went to Castello de Brolio which was an interesting historic as well as panoramic place. We also wine tasted here on the recommendation of Simonetta's son Ricardo and it was excellent.

Some properties have extra charges for pets, make sure you check the extra charges here for pet charges.
