La Piaggia is a typical Tuscan farmhouse, 4km from the motorway, set in the splendid Tuscan countryside between Lucca and Pistoia. The villa is an ideal location for a relaxing tranquil break surrounded by nature but at the same time offers a vast choice of cultural and artistic attractions in the nearby towns of Lucca, Florence, Pistoia, Collodi and the wonderfully spectacular renaissance villas of the Lucca countryside.

The villa is set in a large garden surrounded by pine trees and olive groves providing a lovely relaxing atmosphere. In the garden there is a beautiful oval-shaped swimming pool and a barbeque. It is also possible to enjoy the wonderful view of the Nievole Valley by taking a walk or bike ride through the cool woods nearby.

Everything about this Lucca holiday farmhouse has been organised to cater for all needs. The ground floor consists of the kitchen, dining and living area. The kitchen has an open working fireplace, is fully fitted with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, oven, gas hobs and microwave.

The spacious and airy living room has a TV and video and a computer linked to Internet. Also on this floor there is a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower.

On the first floor there are three double bedrooms. All the rooms are lovely and spacious. One of the bedrooms has an anti bedroom area which has a sofa. On this floor there are 3 bathrooms, one is en-suite and the other two are accessed from the hall. Two of the bathrooms have showers and the third has a bathtub with hydro massage and hand held shower.

Outside the villa there is a large covered terrace that is furnished with table and chairs to enjoy meals al fresco.

La Piaggia is an ideal house for a relaxing holiday near all the sites of Tuscany.
Don't forget to visit the Pinocchio park in Collodi and the Leonardo da Vinci museum in Vinci.

Pets are welcome for an extra weekly charge

Pros The owner and family are very friendly and helpful.they are nice ,kind, generous, and giving good care.
The garden ,especially rose garden are wonderful and pretty.
The owner cook and be around to tslk and help.
Cons The bed mattress are too soft and should be changed. There are not enough hot water for bath, slways run out. The bed room on ground floor cannot be used, wet and not nice smell. The living room is not inviting to sit. We always use the outdoor.
Local attractions In Montecarlo and Montecatini Terme, lots of good one.

To Tuscany team comments for this review:

10.06.2015
The owner has now replaced the mattress. A new device has been connected to the new solar water system to maintain the water temperature.
08.06.2015
Thank you for your comments. The owner will check the mattresses and replace if necessary. The hot water is running on a new solar panel system combined with electric. This will be adjusted to ensure there is ample hot water.

Pros Teresa and Diago were so welcoming and acommodating, could not ask for better hosts. Great access to the small towns in the area also the train station in Pescia so we could venture off to Cinque Terre without the long drive.
Upon arrival (we were an hour late as we got lost coming from Venice) Teresa had our dinner ready and waiting, what a fantastic meal.
If you stay here I recommend at least one dinner and also to take the starter kit. Thank you Teresa.
Local attractions Lucca, Pisa and the hidden treasure of Montecatini Altto. Local Pizza restaurant (15 minute walk) was so friendly and food was good price reasonable.

Pros My family spent a wonderful week at La Piaggia in October and I would thoroughly recommend staying there. The location is fantastic for exploring Tuscany, either by train from nearby Altopascio or by car. The house is extremely comfortable and well equipped and the olive grove, nursery and grape vines provide a beautiful Tuscan setting.
Our host Teresa and her son Diego were so welcoming and generously provided wine and olive oil from their farm. Teresa's antipasto platter was delicious. A wonderful place to experience Tuscany and we hope to return one day!
Cons Nothing
Local attractions Montecatini and Montecatini Alto are definitely worth visiting. Coffee shop and patisserie in Marginone also worth a visit or two.

Pros we liked everything about la piaggia, from the fantastic outside grounds where you could go walks through the vinyard and vegetable gardens finding tomatoes, sweetpeppers, lettuce etc., which we were told we could use to make our picnics, and did. the pool area was great also because it had plenty of sun beds and chairs and also a shaded area for when the sun was to hot.
the bed rooms were spacious and comfortable and had plenty of storage.
as there was 7 in our party the four bathrooms provided us with ample space and privacy
theresa and her son diego who spoke good english made us very welcome on our arrival.
we booked a meal with theresa on our first night which was so tasty we ate another four nights with her {very reasonably priced }, she also made her own red and white wine which we all liked.
the villa was in an ideal place for exploring tuscany from, provided you had transport, but i would recommend a sat-nav.
the town of altopacio was only 3 or 4 miles away where we bought our groceries and bread, also the town of pescia was only 5 or 6 miles the opposite direction and had a large super market, this is also where you will find the train station, where travelled to florence, which i can recommend, it also has free and safe parking.

Cons absolutely nothing.
Local attractions there was only one restaurant in marginone near la piaggia called osteria del fellini which was very nice, and there was also a lovely restaurant inthe mountain village of monte carlo which had great views and was very historical. the whole of tuscany and the people were an excellent attraction.

Pros Stunning, rustic property set in beautiful, tranquil gardens with incredible views of the Tuscan countryside. Fantastic swimming pool and facilities. Teresa, our host, was generous and considerate. Highly recommended!
Cons We had nothing to complain about. :-)
Local attractions 'Il Fornello' restaurant is a few minutes walk away and the food was incredible. The local village, Montecarlo, was very pretty and the surrounding area was everything you's expect from Tuscany. The local supermarket (Conad) offered an amazing selection of local and regional produce.

Pros Teresa, our host, was wonderful. She was friendly and very accomodating. The dinners we arranged with her were amazing. The space was family friendly, and the pool was a perfect addition to the family vacation. The AC in the bedrooms was a life saver!
Cons The location was great from a day trip perspective, but there were no stores or restauranrs that were easily wakable. The downstairs bedroom was not set up for use and did not have AC (luckily we didn't need it).
Local attractions Easy to get the train to Florence or drive to Lucca for the day.

Pros Goed bereikbaar, zeer veel buiten ruimte , tuinen, boomgaarden wijngaarden .zeer vriendelijke eigenaresse die regelmatig lekkere dingen kwam brengen. Gebruik van kruidentuin, tomaten aubergines en fruit, zo even plukken heerlijk.
Heerlijk zwembad, goed overdekt terras. Prachtige slaapkamers boven

Pros The location, the gardens and grounds, the pool surrounded by flowers, the views, the lovely farmhouse; in fact there was nothing we disliked.

The owner cooked us a superb Tuscan meal on our first night and she and her sons couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. She gave us a guided tour of the grounds, explaining the unusual herbs and other plants. They also offered advice on the best options for travelling to places of interest and anything else we wanted to know.
Cons The kitchen and bedrooms in particular had poor lighting, as many of the light fittings needed replacement bulbs. More and much larger chopping boards in the kitchen would have been useful.
Local attractions We visited Altopascio briefly and this has some interesting old buildings; worth a quick visit. The owner also recommended visiting Vinci, which is only about 30 minutes away. Not only is this a very pretty town, with the Leonardo Museum, but it is also in a lovely setting. The drive there and back alone made it worth a visit.
