Torretta Barbischio is a wonderful Tuscan villa located on the edge of a typical medieval Tuscan village where there is a good restaurant. A short distance away is Gaiole in Chianti.

There is a large pool surrounded by sun beds and umbrellas. It overlooks the valley and hills of the Chianti which provide it with breathtaking views. Next to the pool is a small gym.
The high quality Tuscan villa is in a well manicured terraced garden which has excellent views to one side while the other side looks up the slope back into the small medieval village of Barbischio. It is laid out over three floors with the main entrance on the middle floor. The villa is completely furnished is a romantic Venetian style.
On entering there is a large, spacious lounge with a typical vaulted terracotta ceiling. This bright room has a large comfortable angle sofa and an armchair. In the centre of the room is a wooden coffee table and a high quality rug. The window looks out to an fantastic view of the Tuscan hills.
To the back of the lounge and up 3 steps is the master bedroom. The room is furnished with a large double bed with cushioned backboard, a big wooden wardrobe, chest of drawers, armchair with foot stool and an antique wooden bench. The ceiling has the traditional Tuscan beams and terracotta tiles. The windows look to the back of the property. En- suite is a marble bathroom with shower, done with pale brown colours.
Going to the floor below there is a large kitchen which has been tastefully furnished and done in grey and orange colours. In the centre of the room is a wooden table that can be opened up to seat 10 people. Along one wall is the kitchen unit which is well equipped with all utensils and includes gas hobs, oven and fridge with freezer.

From the kitchen a large glass door leads out to the eating terrace. Here there is a stone barbeque to one side. From the iron table that seats 6 people there is an incredible view of the countryside and Gaiole in Chianti in the distance.
Up a couple of steps to the back of the kitchen there is a second door accessing a covered terrace. Going up a further few steps is a reading room furnished with an armchair, a stone bench covered with cushions and a small bookcase with a selection of books. To the back is a toilet and a laundry room.
Going from the lounge to the top floor there are two more bedrooms. On one side is a large double bedroom with a built in wardrobe and an antique chest of drawers. At the foot of the bed is a divan with a matching armchair in one corner. The window looks out to the amazing view at the front of the villa. En-suite is a bathroom with shower.
The second double bedroom is up a couple of steps to the back of the villa. The floor is covered with wood and the ceiling has wooden beams and terracotta tiles. The double bed has a lovely iron backrest. The room is furnished with an armchair, wardrobe and writing desk. En- suite is a bathroom with shower. The double bed can be converted into twins if requested when booking.

The immediate neighbour can see into the Torretta Barbischio's gardens.
There is a road passing the villa, it goes into the village and is used only by residents of the small village.

1 double can be converted into twins if requested when booking.

Pros Everything! The villa is exceptionally well maintained and the position in Chianti is stunning. Osteria il Papavero is just 50m up the road and was one of the best meals we had in Tuscany.
Cons leaving...

Pros Beautiful and very well done conversion with fantastic views. Great swimming pool & gym.
The location in just a hamlet with about 12 houses, a church, a bell tower a very small walled cemetary and a really, really good restaurant...perfect.
Isabella is delightful and the service provided by her, the owner & Paulo the pool guy is second to none....Well done.
Cons The top floor, front bedroom needs a chest of drawers and the stairs wear you out till you organise yourself!
Local attractions Favourite restaurant must be La Contrad up a tiny unmade track, off the road into Gaiole from the villa, it's about 1.5km away. A very clever, talented and charming Chef Great and reasonably priced wine list.....Try the Cuvee Rose!!! Travelling to Florence from Montevarchi by train is just so cheao, easy and cuts out all the hassle of parking etc in Florence.

Pros The remote setting in beautiful tuscan countryside and amazing views. The village of Gaiole 3 km away was charming and most importantly had very good local shops - butcher, greengrocer, deli , coop etc.
Cons Bed in main bedroom just a bit hard for my liking but that is not really a complaint as I am a fussy sleeper and compared to beds in lots of places I have stayed it was fine and definitely better than being too soft! Isabella and her cleaning team were completely delightful but whether they need to come armed with mops and brooms three times in the week in addition to the first and second saturday cleans is a matter I guess for the owners - Sometimes it is nicer just to be left alone on holiday but I guess some people like the hotel making beds treatment. As i say I can't stress enough that she was a lovely woman and I suppose if something had gone wrong it would have been good to know she was turning up in the morning so not really a criticism just a thought..........
Local attractions Il papavera in the village of Barbischio is a very good restaurant but if you are looking for a cheaper meal out which as there were five of us we were then we ate at the pizzeria restaurant in Gaiole where the service was very slow but food good. The villa is so lovely we preferred to eat on the terrace most of the time.

Pros The location of the villa was beautiful. We enjoyed using the pool and the kitchen was well equipped for cooking meals. The washing machine was a bonus. The villa is very spacious and well decorated. We really liked staying here.
Cons The beds were a little hard but we got used to them.
Local attractions The restaurant Papavero was excellent. It's just a short walk down the hill. We had dinner here on our first and last night. Both meals were wonderful. The shops and restaurants in Gaiole were very nice too. Grocery shopping at the Coop several times.

Pros The approach to Torretta Barbischio is so impressive and exciting, looking up towards the hilltop town. The decor is warm, the villa was spotless. Isabella was waiting to greet us with a big smile and was very friendly and helpful. The views are spectacular and the layout of the villa is good for a large family wanting to sprawl in different spaces or commune on the lovely patio. Our youngest child is 6 and a strong swimmer, so we were comfortable with all the steps and unfenced pool. There's a lawn to kick a ball around and lots of space poolside.
Cons Beware of the rugs on the floor - they slip and slide very easily.
Local attractions We loved El Papavero, great food. We loved our regional trips discovering castles and restaurants. Wonderful, wonderful week in Chianti.

Pros immaculate, beautifully appointed home. so many areas to relax and enjoy the beautiful sceney. one of our group had visited italy many times, staying in similar places - he said this truly exceeded expectations.
Cons hard to regulate heat - we got an unseasonably cold week. not much is wrong with this place.

Pros Incredible view over the valley, beautiful sunsets from the veranda every evening, lovely salt-water pool. A beautiful area and a really good restaurant 100m away. A well planned and equipped villa. Made good use of the gym and pool before breakfast, and the free samples of dermatological products! (the owner is a dermatologist)
Cons The day the rain fell and a river decided to pass through the front door, into the sitting room, down the stairs into the kitchen - all hands to the mops! Although it was quite an exciting end to our holiday, especially after watching helicopters putting out a forest fire the day before. The beds were too firm but we used spare duvets for extra padding.
Local attractions Wonderful restaurant in the village. Good pizza down in Gaiole (although not cheap). Great pesto sauce at the coop. Wine-tasting at Meleto with a tour of the castle and cellar. A lovely evening out in Sienna. Memorable day trips to Florence and Pisa/Lucca. If you run (or drive) on up the hill, there is a beautiful area of pine and oak forest to explore and we saw deer and wild boar at sunrise.

Pros Just about everything. Very comfortable; virtually evrything we wanted was readily available; swimming pool was great.
Cons Very minor dislikes - the oven is located next to the refrigerator and the heat from the oven affected the temperaturs of the refrigerator. Outdoor cooking facilities could be improved.
Local attractions Barbischio is in close proximity to everything that the Chianti region has to offer. Osteria il Papavero is a very good restaurant within 50m of the villa. Many other very good Tuscan restaurants are close by.
