Torretta Barbischio, Gaiole in Chianti - Siena and Chianti

We had a wonderful stay at Torretta Barbischio. The villa is fantastic, the bedrooms are large all with en-suites and there is excellent air conditioning in the bedrooms (the sleep mode was very useful), the kitchen is well equipped and the outside space is perfect. The pool is large in comparison to most villas with great sun loungers.
Our interactions with the key holder were easy and Gabriele was very helpful, pleasant and provided us with a basket of food when we arrived which was a lovely touch.
The villa is in a small village on a steep hill, so a car is needed. You can walk into Gaiole but it is a steady climb back up the hill.

The restaurant in the village is literally 2 minutes from the front door of the villa and the food was fantastic. Large portions, so be careful how much you order! The staff were super helpful and friendly. We took the opportunity to visit a couple of vineyards, kindly recommended to us through the To Tuscany sight. We had lunch with a tour at one and a sunset tour and dinner at another. Both within easy driving distance and both were great, with exceptional food and wine. The local town is lovely, there are a few shops, restaurants and bars to browse as well as a butchers and grocers. There is a little Coop in the town, but if you have a car, go to the Lidl in Arezzo (30 mins away) as the choice is much larger and it is cheaper.

We were lucky to spend 5 weeks in this amazing villa in such a peaceful and beautiful location. Amazing views, swallows at sunset, cuckoos in the morning and owls at night. We were well looked after by Eva the cleaner, the villa has everything you require for your stay and is extremely well equipped. Location is high up at the end of a valley so a good 30 min walk down windy road to Gaiole and 35min back up! In May pool was very "refreshing" but great when acclimatised. To Tuscany very helpful before departure and even helped organise a birthday cake to be delivered on my 60th Birthday!.
This is truly a fantastic place to stay, we would highly recommend!

Wine tasting with Fabio at Casanova de Bricciano, 20 min walk up gravel road from villa is a must, 30euro/person, booking needed, wine served with local snacks, yum. 30 meters from the villa is Osteria il Papavero good local food and friendly team. Tuscany Bicycle in Gaiole very good selection of bikes to hire and many cycle options, MTB, gravel road. Big COOP in Montevarchi is best supermarket 30min drive. Small Deli in gaiole for bread, Finoccio Sausage and cheese.

We had a wonderful stay. The villa was everything we had hoped for - beautiful views and cosy kitchen to cook and eat in. Would definitely stay again.

The town of Gaiole is small and homely. We felt like locals straight away. Head off in your car or on a bicycle in any direction and visit the most beautiful towns. Enjoy!

Restaurant il Papavero in ca 50 m Entfernung excellente italienische Küche und toller Beratung durch den Besitzer.Sehr empfehlenswert. Auch das Pizzalokal in Gaiole ausgezeichnet. Habe persönlich schon lange nicht mehr ein so perfekte Pizza gegessen.

Super Betreuung vor Ort

Staying at the Torretta Barbischio was a truly wonderful experience. The villa is well equipped, clean, beautifully presented and a great place to unwind. We loved the pool, the gym and the choice of places to sit in the sun. The welcome tour was friendly and informative and Eva did a super job during the week. The views are every bit as good as on the website and the bird song is tremendous.

The local restaurant is well worth a visit and I would highly recommend having some cooks into the villa to show you how to cook pasta properly. We visited Siena and Florence and some of the local villages such as Rada.

Fabulous villa with fantastic views. Lots of space both indoors and outdoors to either be together as a group or for couples to have time to themselves. Very well equipped and with a comprehensive basket of essential food supplies for us on arrival. The villa suited us, but with the villa split across 5 levels (lots of steps!) it would not suit holidaymakers with mobility issues. Well located to go walking in the beautiful Tuscan countryside.

A visit (or two!) to Osteria Il Papavero (just 50 m up the road) is a must. Fabulous authentic Tuscan food - and the restaurant were able to accommodate one of our party with complex food allergies. All round excellent hospitality with personality. Also recommend takeaway pizzas from Ciamparini Corrado In Gaiole in Chianti. Multiple good places for coffee and pastries or gelato in Gaiole - a 30 minute walk downhill from the villa. Highly recommend a visit to the local (easy walking distance) organic vineyard La Casa di Bricciano - a fantastic tour of the property and excellent, generous wine-tasting with local meats and cheese.

Auf jeden Fall ist ein Besuch in der Osteria Il Papavero lohnenswert. Wer gerne ein besonderes gutes Bistecca alla fiorentina essen möchte, wird in die Osteria Al Ponte fündig.
