Capanna di Camporata is a fantastic Chianti cottage located within walking distance to the town Gaiole in Chianti in the heart of Tuscany. This Tuscan villa has been lovingly restored to a high standard with plenty of care also put into the garden and terraces.
Outside the cottage is a large covered, furnished terrace which looks down onto the small, sunken pre-fabricated pool which is surrounded by a pretty, stone paved sun deck. Next to the pool is a second furnished terrace. The entire garden is well maintained with lovely lawns and pretty local plants and shrubs.
Inside the Tuscan villa is a large open plan room with a fireplace in one corner. Around this are two comfortable armchairs, making it a perfect place to relax during the cooler Spring and Autumn evenings. The room is cool in the Summer and warm in winter due to the high, typical Tuscan chestnut wood and terracotta ceiling.
To one side of the room is a wooden dining table with four chairs, while the kitchen unit is along two walls providing plenty of work space. It is a fully equipped kitchen and includes an oven, gas hobs and a small fridge with internal freezer compartment and a built-in microwave oven. This open plan room has plenty of light from the two glass doors, one providing access to the loggia and the other to the parking area.
To one side is access to the attractive bathroom with shower and the romantic double bedroom. The bedroom is decorated in shades of white which makes it a bright room enhancing the beauty of the terracotta paved floor. Against one wall is a built in triple wardrobe with shelving and hanging space. Also in the room is a small bookcase with several books.
There is a neighbouring villa which is protected from view from the garden by hedges and trees.
This traditional Tuscan cottage has no central heating. Heating for the cooler seasons is provided by the wood burning fireplace insert with hot air circulation and  by electrical radiators.

Pool Info

The pool is situated in the lovely garden, just below the covered terrace. There are steps down from the terrace to the large stone paved sun deck that surrounds the pool. To one side are a couple of sunbeds and an umbrella, providing a lovely spot to relax while enjoying the peace of the Chianti hills that surround this little Tuscan villa.
To one side of the pool is a second terrace furnished with a table and chairs, this is a sunny terrace. The pool is a sunken, prefabricated pool with metal steps to enter. It is 3.5x6.5 metres and 1.2 metres deep, it's open from mid-May to mid-October weather permitting.

The property is well equipped and comfortable. The loggia, garden area and pool enabled us to eat and relax outdoors throughout our stay. Rachel was a very helpful and welcoming host.
Local attractions It is a 10 minute stroll from the property to an excellent restaurant, and an easy walk into Gaiole itself. There are interesting walks in the forests, vineyards and olive groves, which surround Gaiole. The property is also well placed for visiting both Sienna (by car) and Florence (a 40 minute drive to Montevarchi from where there are half hourly trains).

A stunning villa for two . It met all of our expectations and more. The villa is fully equipped, and is literally like a home from home. Rachael who looks after the property is lovely and on hand if you need anything, offering ideas / suggestions for trips restaurants. Highly recommended.
Rachael .... Thanks again! ;-)
Local attractions Job no1 is take the empty wine bottles supplied by villa up the road and get Patricia to fill them up for 3 euros each! Other than that there is a great 'guide' in the villa for things to do... There are'nt too many decent restaurants in the actual town of Gaiole so you'll need a car to explore. We made the most of the Villa and it's beautiful terrace for dining..... ( the villa has its own herb garden) Go upto the Riecine vineyard...... Stunning views, enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace there and take in the views!

OWNER COMMENT: Thank you for your comments. The house has mosquito nets on the two main bedrooms. The only window without a net is a small window in the bathroom. There is also a mosquito net on the door to the terrace. The only opening not protected by a net is the front door. There is also a net over the bed. Weekly linen is provided as in the villa description - 6 towels were provided for two people and there is a washing machine inhouse. I would have gladly provided fresh towels mid week for an additional charge had it been requested. I do apologise if the gardener disturbed you - it was necessary to maintain the garden on the Friday morning as he was unavailable for the weekend for personal reasons. He did however complete his work by 10am to allow for your privacy. Again, I am sorry the villa did not meet your expectations.

If you are looking for a Tuscan villa for 2 and wanting a peaceful/relaxing break without having to share a pool, then this is it. Totally private with lovely gardens and pool area. If anything the pool is slightly larger than the photos show. The villa is equipped with everything you would need for a private holiday - including beach towels. There are 2 villas nearby but they are totally screened by trees and greenery. You can hear people at the pools but it is not intrusive. Yes there are mosquitos - take insect repellent and use citronella candles. Can I point out there are no scorpions at this villa as mentioned by a previous visitor. There are small "gecko" type lizards who are more scared of you and do not enter the villa. I have no hesitation in recommending this villa - even if it makes it harder to re-book for myself.
Local attractions The village of Gaiole is a short, level stroll away. It does not have a wild nightlife but has everything you need - Co-op, deli, wine shop, pavement cafes, pharmacy, baker, fruit shop and 6/7 restaurants within walking distance. In particular, La Contrade just up the track opposite the villa and Osteria Al Ponte in the village. Also Il Papavero in nearby Barbischio serves lovely food with lots of specials every night. The English speaking staff are particularly helpful and you get spectacular sunsets from the outside area. For culture, you can easily take the train to Florence or drive to Sienna and San Gimignano. The delightful villages of Radda and Castellina are worth a visit even if it is just for the ice cream.

What a wonderful place for 2 people to share a quiet and romantic visit to the Chianti region. Very well appointed, we didn't want for anything. Rachel, our host, was welcoming, helpful and friendly (great oboist!). Ideally placed for exploring the area and trips to Florence and Siena. A visit to Patricia for local wine is a must as is Il Papavero at Barbischio.
Local attractions Siena, Florence and Vertine are wonderful. Il Papavero at Barbischio and La Contrade up the hill are excellent restaurants. Please go and meet Patricia for local wine. The best wine tastng experience was found at Casanuova di Ama. Here, Daniela is a wonderful hostess and the wine is fabulous.

fantastic accommodation in a lovely location, a short, gentle stroll from the village. The villa itself was perfect for us - pretty, private, well kept and with ample indoor and outdoor space. It's also brilliantly well stocked with everything from matches for the fire to toilet roll to teabags to a shelf of books. As a result it didn't feel like a rental property, more like a friends cottage. Rachel, the owner, met us on arrival and was wonderfully helpful, even texting us to let us know there was a local holiday so the shops would be closed one day. We would definitely recommend it!

From a warm welcome to a cheery arrivederci Capanna di Camporata did not disappoint. The villa, situated in a dip amongst the Gaiole in Chianti hills had been sympethetically revnovated and left us feeling like we were home from home. Everything you needed for self catering was on hand within the villa; from corckscrews to pegs, a comfortable bed to a little light reading. Situated perfectly for Pisa, Florence, Arezzo, Siena and lots of other villages in the Chianti region we had a lovely stay.

We are delighted to report that the owner has bought a net for the doors that open onto the terrace and also a net for the bed. They always leave a good supply of mosquito deterrents in the house such as candles, spirals and plug-in devices and a portable battery operated device that can be used both indoors and outdoors.

I've been in 2 minds about reviewing this villa - it's not that we didn't enjoy it, but that I'm worriedthat if I tell the truth we'll never be able to book it again as it'll be booked up forever! Having read a very negative review today I decided I had to do it. Were they really in the same place as we visited?

Right from the start Rachel was so helpful. We arrived late after a long drive, but it was no bother for her and we received a warm welcome (& a very welcome bottle of wine). The villa is just as as lovely as it looks in the photos and has everything you need for a fabulous holiday. It is tastefully decorated, the kitchen very well equipped, the bed is comfortable, the pool & gardens stunning & the location excellent. There are lost of good bars & restaurants within walking distance and some great places to visit within a couple of hours drive or train.

Rachel was on hand for anything we needed, and came round to clean & tidy the garden & pool on several occasions - very welcome after some unseasonable storms blew everything around. When we mentioned that the cistern had started leaking, by the time we came back from a day trip all was fixed and dry.

I would love to return to this villa. Thank you Rachel and To-Tuscany for a fabulous holiday.
There were mosquitos and small scorpions around. Of course there are - it is Tuscany! They live there. They were not a problem. There were loads of mozzie plugs provided in the villa. We kept the doors shut & this kept the beasts out. There's not much you can do about the ones outside - especially as there is a river nearby. The pharmacy sells great cream for bites & citronella candles kept them off the patio.

Avoid the co-op on a Sunday, it's bonkers!
The only thing I didn't like is the fact we had to leave and come home again after 2 weeks of relaxing bliss. Also sad I didn't see any wild boar. Might not feel the same way if I'd met one in the lane!
Local attractions Whiskey a go go has great wood fired pizza, beer, wine & company and Boccon di Bacca serves lovely dinner. Both within walking distance of the villa. Excellent ice cream in Castellina in Chianti. Long drive to Val d'Orcia was totally worth it. Stunning scenery. Winery/wine tasting in Riecine just up the road was fascinating and we brought home some lovely Chianti.

Fabulous location, rural and quiet but only a 5 minute walk to the town.
If I had to find one negative, and it is hard, the quantity of mosquitos and other bugs at night was high. They stayed outside but did mean after sunset we could really stay sat on the terrace.

We truly loved Capanna di Camporata and was instantly made very welcome by our host Rachel and gardener, Vaskil (spelling?) We know the area very well and because the villa is so well equiped and homely, we didn't feel the need to venture far as we had everything we needed. The garden is delightful.
Local attractions Gaioli is in a perfect location to visit most of the Central Tuscan attractions either by car or by train from Montevarchi. The town centre is a lovely short stroll along a flat lane where all the shops, cafe's and amenities can be found.

In a word, pretty much everything. Excellent location, close enough to walk into village and a lovely restaurant just up the hill where the food on offer was fantastic. The house itself is perfect, a lot of care and attention has gone into it and i'd also say it feels a bit bigger than what the photos on the website portray. The garden and pool area are private, spacious and well cared for (if the gardener nips round and mentions anything about vin santo, just nod your head, he does an excellent home-brew version which he very kindly passed onto us!). Rachel, the home-owner, was there to welcome us and made our stay perfect, offering local advice and making sure everything was ok for us, even taking the trouble to kindly nip round when we phoned her one evening.
Nothing, it's perfect.
Local attractions The restaurant just up the hill is fantastic, the food is excellent and the chef and staff are very friendly and welcoming, cannot recommend it enough. The village itself has a small supermarket and everything you need, we also nipped to the bigger supermarket at Montervarchi which is only about 30 mins by car. Trips to Sienna, Florence and San Gimigano are all easy. I'd recommend getting the train into Florence from Montervachi, it's easy to park the car just by the station.

Everything about the villa and location was perfect, the locals were welcoming and friendly. Rachel was the perfect host offering advice on where to go during our stay. Highly recommend the Italian train service to visit the major cities such as Florence, Rome and Pisa. We also loved the wine tasting at the local vineyard and we can't wait to return.
Local attractions Florence, Pisa, Rome, Siena, The Cantalici vineyard, San Gimignano, Gaiole and the Tuscan hills.
