Casa la Quercia, Grezzano - Borgo San Lorenzo - Florence and Chianti
There’s a real sense of history about this quirky old stone villa in the heart of the Florentine countryside, named after the 500-year-old oak tree in its grounds. It offers a perfect blend of old and new, melding traditional Tuscan architecture with modern furnishings and fittings. The open-plan, split-level layout, linked by stairs and arches, is straight out of an interiors magazine. On the ground floor, a cavernous (and superbly equipped) kitchen flows into an equally spacious dining room. Up a short flight of stairs, a second huge lounge unfolds, leading upwards again to the top floor and a further space for relaxing. There are unique details, too, such as the beautiful hardwood dining table in the kitchen and the king-size bed in the mezzanine-floor bedroom, both of which are made from reclaimed peroba.
The villa itself isn’t the only attraction. There is a huge patio at the front, which is likely to rival the lounges as the place to meet on warm sunny days, and a second terrace by the kitchen provides a handy spot for dining al fresco. At the rear of the villa is a delightful garden with a private pool at its heart.
Casa la Quercia is situated in Mugello, often referred to as the green heart of Tuscany. Located in the ancestral home of the Medici family and at the foothills of the Apennines, it's a captivating and lesser-known historic region of Tuscany. Here, tourists are scarce, and the local cuisine is authentic and sourced locally, all offered at very reasonable prices. With Pisa, Florence, and the Chianti vineyards nearby, this makes for an excellent base for what is sure to be a memorable holiday.
There are steep open steps leading to the different levels and some high steps up to rooms on the ground floor. Guests with young children are asked to take necessary precautions around the open staircase.

Villa location
Guest reviews: Casa la Quercia

The villa was excellent with lots of space, inside and out. The rooms were all well equipped and the pool provided a very welcome cooling from the hot weather we enjoyed during our stay.
We used the cooker and the BBQ at various times with different members of the family sharing chef duties. With 6 adults and three children, the dishwasher was also very welcome.
The key holder was very helpful in helping us navigate the local rubbish/recycling system and messaged every evening with reminders, and a very pleasant greeting for the Farragosta holiday that took place whilst we were there.
Everyone had a great time, despite the mosquitoes, which seemed to be particularly hungry this year!We visited Pistoia, Vinchi, and Bologna and all were lovely, in different ways. A couple of drives over the mountain passes to the north were great experiences. The local restaurant (La Bottega) was excellent but opening hours were quite erratic; several evenings Google said they were open, the doors said otherwise. Lots of options in Borgo San Lorenzo, and/or Scarperia just 10 minutes down the road. All we visited were good value, presented good food and the staff were pleasant. The beach bar on the Lake was also a very pleasant lunch venue.
