The surrounding countryside is dotted with charming villages, local trattorias and scenic walking routes, while Pisa, Viareggio and Florence are all within convenient driving distance.

To be honest having been in Naples, Rome and Florence before arriving at the villa we had no intention of widely exploring the area. Lucca was a nice town but getting there and back was not the easiest, but I am sure would become more familiar with time. Whilst an experienced driver I did not enjoy driving around in Italy - its a free for all! Car hire was a costly necessity. The local supermarket meets most of your day to day requirements. All in all a very pleasant place to finish off a busy Italian holiday.
