Scorpione at Montefiorile, Lecchi in Chianti - Gaiole in Chianti - Siena and Chianti
A Chianti Classico hillside resort, Montefiorile's cottages are nestled on a south bank with magnificent views across rolling hills carpeted with vines. The hillside structures, all with their own private garden/terrace and charming terra cotta floors and ceilings, are placed to reveal vistas from every corner. While the surrounding oak trees give shaded sanctuary from the midday sun, the swimming pool, private to the resort, offers the chance of a cooling dip. Nights bring out nature, you'll sit back and watch the wildlife play and the twinkling distant stars in the black sky.
While taking your front row seat to view the sunset over Castello di Ama's prestigious Montebuoni vineyards you can plan a day trip to Siena, Florence and San Gimignano or a walk to the nearby village of Lecchi in Chianti to soak up your new way of life. Foodies will have the Chianti towns of Radda and Gaiole in their sights for typical artisanal delights. If you're feeling more energetic, you may take time out for an early morning run or bike ride among some of Tuscany's finest landscapes.
Inside the resort it is car free, the hillside position means there are steps to reach each cottage. We recommend Montefiorile for adults only to promote a quiet and peaceful environment throughout the summer.

We had a wonderful stay in Scorpione. We arrived late, but found the key, and thanks to the enclosed map, the house, easily. The next morning, the view from the balcony more than made up for what in the dark had been a slightly worrying approach road (and in daylight, the road wasn't half bad). Next time, we'll just arrive earlier.
The apartment itself is super cosy and ideal for two, but we also had enough space and equipment to have dinner with friends who were there at the same time. The dishwasher was of great help.
The whirlpool needed some time to preheat because we didn't want to leave it running the whole time. In the end, the price was still reasonable and it was a great way to relax after long days exploring, especially thanks to the view. Mosquito repellent is definitely necessary for any outside activity though. The large communal pool was a bit too cold for us personally, but was always pretty quiet when we passed it, and looked a good size.
Because we arrived late and knew we wouldn't have time to shop the first night, we had booked the starter package in advance, which provided everything we needed for dinner and breakfast. We can now also highly recommend the olive oil and balsamic vinegar sold on site, and ended up taking several bottles home with us.We mostly explored within the region, there is plenty to do within half an hour or so drive. For groceries, we went to the coop in Radda, here there's also Bar Dante for breakfast, Casa Porciatti for more speciality foods and great sandwiches, and Bottega Di Giovanni for a very fairly priced, extremely tasty home cooked dinner. In Castellina, we visited the fortress and the adjacent museum, and can recommend Gelateria Di Castellina (the one on the outskirts) We also visited Gaiole (although we got the timing slightly wrong, and much was closed), the Castello di Brolio for lovely views and part of our group enjoyed the hikes close to the villa. Day trips to Siena and Montevarchi, here especially the palaeontology museum. Pleasantly surprised: most museums offered a student discount even to foreign students, definitely worth asking.
