Fill your mind in the Etruscan city of Orvieto and your glass in the medieval wine-making town of Montepulciano. Soothe your body in the hot springs at Bagni San Filippo and your soul on a trip by train to see the sights in Rome. The beaches of the Mediterranean are another good idea for a day out.
But don't plan an excursion for every day of your visit, your friends and family will want some downtime at this peaceful detached villa with views of Monte Amiata between the cypress trees.
The old stone house sleeps 12 in six bedrooms, five tucked away on the ground floor – two with generous sitting areas – and one in the eaves on the floor above. Each has the luxury of its own en-suite bathroom.
There’s also a spacious TV room-cum-study on the ground floor, although the main place to gather is on the light and bright level below. Here you’ll find a huge open-plan room for relaxing and dining, a well-equipped kitchen, and an alternative spot for meals outside beneath a glass roof.
It’s not the only al fresco space in this beautiful garden, there’s a large, shaded terrace by the entrance to the house, too. And, of course, your private pool. You might just have to put off those day trip plans until tomorrow.
There is a small cottage in the grounds which is occasionally occupied but only the rear of the building is visible from the villa.
