Villa San Michele, San Sano - Gaiole in Chianti - Siena and Chianti
It’s no surprise to discover that the wealthy landowners who once ruled over much of this area chose this villa as their home: the location is glorious and the property itself has good looks in abundance. From its hilltop position in the Chianti region, the beautifully restored stone-built villa offers grand views of the surrounding countryside, not least from the large private pool, furnished pergola or terrace, and with vineyards stretching in all directions, you’ll never be short of a decent glass of wine to enjoy with your lunch or dinner.
Villa San Michele has all the assets of a typically Tuscan property, with wood-beamed ceilings, graceful arches dividing communal rooms and terracotta-tiled floors, and is beautifully furnished with antiques throughout. It will work well for a large group or two small families, with five lounges, four bedrooms and three bathrooms. If you want to eat and relax together, you can; if not, there are enough different dining and lounging areas for everyone to find their own special hideaway. The house makes a perfect base for exploring, with Florence and Arezzo just over an hour’s drive away, Siena even closer, and the Chianti Sculpture Park only 10 minutes’ drive down the road.

Our Thoughts
Generous helpings of character and space – that’s what you get at this secluded rural property. Indoors, the already large rooms feel even larger thanks to the high beamed ceilings, and the huge inglenook fireplace in the first floor lounge. Outside, the expansive gardens allow you to enjoy sunny Tuscan to the max, with lots of little al fresco seating areas where you can soak up the views from a different perspective every time.
Notes
Four bedrooms. Three bathrooms, two en-suite. Gardens are not fenced, and the pool is unfenced. There is 300 metres of unpaved approach road. The villa owners will accept children under seven years old but prefer not to because of the steep external entrance staircase and the unfenced pool area.
Mosquito Screens In Bedrooms
Pool
The pool is in the garden, surrounded by paving leading to lawn and furnished with loungers with overhead shades. A pergola with table and chairs is just a few steps away. The water can be accessed by internal Roman steps. Pool Size: 10m x 5m, 1.2 - 1.8m deep. Open from April to October, weather depending.
