Ciliegia is a lovely semi-detached villa set in a pretty position in the hamlet Poderone with a garden that wraps around it and gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside. Ciliegia has external natural stone walls, the traditional Tuscan wooden beamed ceiling and parquet flooring in the kitchen, in the lounge and in both bedrooms. It is ideal for two couples as it provides plenty of private spaces.

The villa has a private loggia fully equipped with a stone barbecue and a wooden table with four comfortable straw-bottomed chairs. The loggia is also provided with two external speakers to listen to music while having meals al fresco.

The ground floor lounge has direct access both to the garden and to the loggia making the best of the indoor and the outdoor life at the same time. Entering the lounge from the garden there is, on the right hand side, a modern fireplace with an elegant sofa in front of it.

From the sofa there is a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside through the large door that overlooks the garden.

On the opposite side of the room there is a very tasteful kitchen with a window above the workspace and a dining area with a wooden table that seats four. The kitchen includes a large modern fridge/freezer, stove with gas hobs, oven and a dishwasher.

On the ground floor there is a twin bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. This bedroom has direct access to the garden. The bathroom is exclusively furnished and has a tub with hand held shower and a window with a view. Every room, including bathrooms, has a ceiling fan.

Ciliegia at Poderone
Location address: Roccalbegna - Grosseto

Il Poderone is in the Maremma, an area of Southern Tuscany renowned for its original and wild landscapes. The hamlet Il Poderone consists of 9 independent villas each restored to an excellent standard.

There is an oval swimming pool located on one side of the property. It has excellent views of the surrounding hills and valleys dotted with prestigious villas and quaint towns.

Poderone lays in a beautiful position with excellent views of the rolling Tuscan hills and valleys around. There is free parking for all the guests of the hamlet within the property and there are no unpaved roads on the way to the location.

Hamlet Poderone is the perfect place from which to explore both the mountains and seaside. The coast offers gentle beaches, natural parks, fishing villages, resort towns all facing the clear waters of the Gulf of Argentario in the Mediterranean sea. The famous hot springs of Saturnia are thirty minute's drive away.Click here to see a story about the area in the Daily Mail.

Poderone is the ideal starting point for trips to the sea, Monte Amiata, the Southern wine country and the 'Tufo triangle' towns Pitigliano, Sovana and Sorano, all within a fifty-minute drive.

The Castello di Triana which can be seen from the hamlet is 6kms from the town of Roccalbegna. It sits on a rocky promontory and is enclosed by medieval stone walls, which are still in remarkably good condition. Outside the walls is the church of San Bernardino alla Triana. The castle is approxiamately 1km from the hamlet, so it is possible to walk there.

At Monte Amiata it is possible to go skiing during the winter and walking during summer.

Pool Info

The pool is located to one side of the property, nestled in a lovely sunny position with excellent views of the rolling Tuscan hills and valleys around. The setting is perfect for relaxing in the warm Tuscan sunshine.

The pool is shared between the villas and has a surrounding terrace furnished with sun beds; to one side there are changing rooms with showers and bathrooms.
The pool is oval shaped. It is 14x4 meters and it is 1.30 meters to 1.60 deep and open from May to September.

In about 1 hour drive you arrive at the Marina di Grosseto which is a lovely seaside resort that has a peaceful setting between the evergreen pine forest and the sandy beaches in the very heart of the Maremma, near the northern border of the Natural Reserve of the Maremma in the Uccellina hills. Marina di Grosseto is less than one hour by car away from the "Tufo triangle" towns Pitigliano, Sovana and Sorano, the well-known Saturnia Spa and from Montalcino, famous for its Brunello red wine. It offers a wide range of sport facilities: outdoor activities include riding, hiking, biking, fishing, rollerskating, windsurfing and tennis. From Roccalbegna it is possible to reach the beautiful Monte Argentario area in 1 hour. The extraordinary promontory of Monte Argentario with its small coves and bays, is considered by dedicated scuba divers to be one of the most interesting zones in Italy for the abundance of fish and a sea bed rich in coral and shells. It is a large and hilly promontory in southern Tuscany. The area has a nature reserve and some relatively unspoilt beaches. There are two pretty harbour/resort towns at Monte Argentario which make good holiday bases: Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole. Porto Santo Stefano is on the northern side of the promontory, and is the largest town. Porto Ercole faces south, and is a small and pretty harbour settlement.

Nearest town

Poderone is located 7km from Roccalbegna, 10km from Arcidosso, 18km from Saturnia and 60 from Siena. The town Roccalbegna is 5km from the property and has shops and restaurants.

What were the highlights of your stay?    It is hard to pinpoint any one thing...the view, the casa, the local fresh produce and meats, of course the wine and the cheese from the nearby cheese facgtory, the perfect spring weather in the daytime...all made for a perfect week!
What was your overall impression of the accommodation?    Ciliegia was just wonderful! It was exactly as pictured and more so. It seemed to meet all our needs comfortably, and Enrico was such a nice host!
Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us? Perhaps only the endlessly winding roads which we had to travel daily even to the little grocery in Roccalbegna. And the cooler than expected nighttime temperatures. We had hoped to get inside the nearby castle in Triana but it was still fun just seeing it from the outside But even those things added to our adventure in their own way!
Do you have any other comments regarding the accommodation or service? We highly recommend a visit to the nearby winery for the Villa Patrizia Istrico Sangiovese; ironically a wine that we purchased at the local grocery and then discovered Enrico had also gifted us with the same wine!. It was as delicious as many of the Brunellos we tasted from Montalcino. Looking back on it, we should have had some shipped back to us here.

What were the highlights of your holiday? The accommodation exceed our expectations, the villa was a pleasuare to be in.
What was your overall impression of the accommodation?    Excellent
Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us? We requested twin beds and when we arrived they were made up as a double and your representataive said it could not be changed. This was a little difficult given we have 2 daughters.

Nespola

Nespola
We visited the property in the low season and found it to be exactly as described; well appointed and finished to a high specification. With stunning views and an early sprinkling of snow, the added attraction of a log fire made it all rather magical. Small nearby towns had many welcoming restaurants offering local, seasonal specialities.
This is an area of Italy we were unfamiliar with and having explored a little, next next time we will try the ski ing.
The owners were most helpful and eager to answer any questions

Nespola
This is a beautifully situated apartment with stunning views and lots of traditional villages and towns to explore. Everything was supplied in the apartment that you would need in a home from home, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and sofa, tv, dvd's books etc. Access to the many delights of Tuscany are relatively easy, although a car is essential. Also a visit to Florence does warrant an overnight stay in the City. Easy day trips are Siena, the beach near Grosseto (Marina di Alberese)for some early sunbathing, (we were very lucky with the weather) and a trip to Lago Trasimeno where we had a great meal in a restaurant on stilts over the lake. We spent a lovely, relaxing week with some days in and around the apartment just enjoying the peace and quiet and others travelling to see the sites. This is a wonderful place to unwind and get away from it all. I would thoroughly recommend it and expect to return myself.

Nespola
This cottage is superb. Beautifully presented, with clean stylish decor it was really well equipped, right down to the choice of DVDs! Barbeques on the terrace while the sun sets over the mountains are a lasting memory for us.
The pool is clean and a good size, and provides somewhere to talk to other visitors from a range of European countries if you feel like it. Our daughter (15) was able to make friends there and enjoy a safe environment while feeling independent. The village is well spread out over the gorgeous site, allowing maximum privacy.
The location is idyllic, set in the mountains, quiet and calm but within a short drive of restaurants with delicious typical Italian cuisine. We recommend the boar in chocolate sauce at Rocalbegna by the way - not at all what it sounds!
Its a great location for walkers although a car or motorbike is really an essential, then there are the wonders of Tuscany to explore, for example Siena is an easy journey by car away and well worth several visits.
We thoroughly recommend this cottage - it had everything we needed for a fabulous break.

Nespola
We stayed in Nespola for a week in July 2008. It is a smart, well laid out holiday cottage in a very peaceful and picturesque location. Being up in the hills it is not as hot as other parts of Tuscany and we did not use the air conditioning. The cottage's two terraces are well positioned and allow you to sit in sun or shade are you prefer. The sea and islands can be seen from the terrace.
Roccalbegna is a delightful village well worth exploring. The local food and beer festival was held during our stay and we spent a superb evening at a dance with a local band - the whole town seemed to be there from the youngest to the oldest.
Borgo il Poderone was quiet and we usually had the pool to ourselves. Local hill-top towns like Pitigliano are full of local character and definitely worth a visit. The wildlife park on the road to Arcidosso has a variety of animals from donkeys to wolves and is best visited in the evening when it is cooler and the animals can be seen.

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
