I Cipressi benefits from being an independent house within this beautifully restored small hamlet. It has its own private garden and enjoys windows on all sides providing light and airiness.  In front of the house there is a wonderful garden filled with indigenous plants, filling the air with a fragrance of lavender and rosemary while you dine al fresco on the fully furnished terrace. The views are stupendous, to the left over vineyards towards the Chianti hills, the front overlooks the valley towards the open Crete lands in the south and to the right over the neighbouring natural forested hills. The back of the house faces out onto the flower beds in the flagstone courtyard of the hamlet and towards the swimming pool area. A mature oak tree at the bottom of the garden provides a shady nook for relaxation.

The interior tastefully combines all modern comforts and facilities with a beautifully restored gabled wood beam ceiling, chestnut shuttered windows and typical Tuscan terracotta floors.
On entering the house from the terrace, you find yourself in a spacious lounge that is graced by a wood-burning stove. The comfortable modern furniture harmonises with the Tuscan surroundings. The seating area faces out through the glazed double doors to the patio and the view beyond. In one corner there is a large flat screen TV, CD/DVD player and HiFi system with MP3 connection. There is a selection of CDs and DVDs for your use.
To the right there is a beautifully appointed modern kitchen with wooden faced fitted units and polished granite work tops. It is equipped with built in oven, gas hob, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, microwave oven and many small appliances. The window overlooks I Cipressi's garden and onto the hills beyond. To one side of the kitchen there is a dining area with a table seating four. This area leads via a windowed lobby to a twin bedroom and bathroom with shower. The bedroom enjoys views on 2 aspects, towards the Chianti hills and the garden.
To the left of the lounge there is a small hall from which you enter into the master bedroom that has an en-suite bathroom with shower. This room is especially light and airy due to the terracotta tiled local barn style windows that have views of the surrounding wooded hills. These windows are fitted on the inside with opening double glazed metal frames for ventilation and with co-ordinated blinds and curtains to provide a flexible level of lighting.
From the hall, a wooden staircase leads down to the spacious work and play room that has access to the garden. For play there is a mini soccer table and a variety of table games, for work or play there is a broadband satellite internet connection for your own laptop.
Pets are not allowed.
The twin room can be made into a double.

Location: Vignale

Vignale is a small hamlet that has a total of 6 private homes. It is located on top of a Chianti hill that gives it the luxury of a stunning view all around. Within a short drive there are three of the five famous Chianti towns: Castellina in Chianti, Radda in Chianti and Gaiole in Chianti.
Vignale was lovingly restored in 2002 taking special care to blend the new with the ancient creating an old hamlet that has apartments that have every modern convenience. The large pool sits on the crest of the hill overlooking the vineyards in the valley below and across the Chianti hills beyond.

In the valley below the hamlet flows the River Arbia, the historic dividing line between Florence and Siena. Nearby there are a host of wineries that are filled with gastronomic delights and a dizzying selection of wine shops.

Because of the open position of the pool at the hamlet, it is not possible to provide sun umbrellas around the pool ; there is some shade offered by the trees.

Pros Geweldig uitzicht, huis is van alle gemakken voorzien. Locatie is ook perfect!
Cons De weg is inderdaad een uitdaging. Onze kleine auto (Renault Megane hatchback uit 2003) kon het echter goed aan.

Pros Location, view, remotness, character, layout, standard of villa equipment, furniture and fittings, clenliness, the peace and quiet
Cons Pool a smidgen too cold. We were luckiny in that we had hot sun most of the week but if there was any cloud the pool became too cold to use. As an adult my size allowed me to carry on but the small children would be shivering within a few minutes. Maybee some solar water heating to just raise the temp 1 or 2 degrees?

Pros Excellent location, great villa
Cons We asked for the second room to be made up as a double bed, it wasn't until we arrived that we were told it couldn't. They were aware of our request and did nothing before hand to tell us they could not do.
Local attractions All the villages, AMA vineyard is excellent.

Pros The stunning views and private garden. Kitchen was well equipped and property was spacious and comfortable. Infinity pool had great views but not heated!
Cons The approach road surface was not suited to our hire car - Fiat Panda - as the tyres couldn't grip on the loose shale particularly on the way up. This limited our willingness to leave the property in the evening to eat out. Suggest 4 x 4.
Local attractions Chianti is beautiful. Vignale is a good central location for exploring the area. Would recommend the Toscana Mia cookery school.

I Cipressi
What were the highlights of your holiday? The views, the weather, the wild life, the wine, the pool and the historical cities and towns!
What was your overall impression of the accommodation?    very clean. well stocked with everything you might need.

Did you have any unpleasant surprises during your stay with us? Very remote and as you say the last section of 'road' is very steep and rough.
It took a while to adapt to this aspect and we were pleased we had a powerful car.
Lack of anywhere within walking distance for supplies or a meal out. Driver is therefore restricted re drink and drive.
NB Tell people you can't drink the tap water we ran out of bottles on first day.
Do you have any other comments regarding the accommodation or service? It would be nice on a 2 week holiday to have the beds changed and made for you the beginning of the second week instead of leaving bag of linen at the door.
Stronger recommendation to stop and shop on route to the villa. We did but we were very pleased we had.
It would be useful to identify an alternative rout therefore that includes a big supermarket.
We went via Poggibonsi and then to Castelina. This was an excelllent decsion as the big supermarket (COOP) is well stocked and actually its quite an adventure finding things and learning how to buy fruit and veg etc.
